THERE was a wonderful atmosphere of pride, celebration and reflection at Holy Family National School as 48 Sixth Class pupils graduated and prepared to embark on the next stage of their education.

Families, staff and friends gathered to mark this important milestone for the Class of 2026. The ceremony was a fitting celebration of a group of young people whose talents, achievements, kindness and resilience have left a lasting impression on the school.

Fr. Sospeter led the gathering in prayer and reflection, helping everyone to appreciate the journey the pupils have shared throughout their years in primary school.

Guests were treated to an impressive showcase of talent with performances on guitar, clarinet and violin.

The school choir started with a rendition of This Little Light of Mine, accompanied by ukulele music performed by the 6th class pupils.

Special thanks was extended to past pupil Ben Glavin, who has shared his enthusiasm and expertise through ukulele lessons over the past two years.

While individual sporting, musical, artistic and academic successes were celebrated, the strongest message of the day focused on the character of the pupils themselves.

Their kindness, inclusivity and care for one another were highlighted as the qualities that have defined this class and made them such a special group.

The ceremony also included a moving tribute to beloved classmate Lily-Anna, who passed away during Fifth Class.

Her memory has remained a cherished part of school life through a special memorial candle that has been present at school ceremonies and significant occasions ever since.

As the graduates prepared to leave primary school and move on to secondary education, the symbolism of the candle took on special meaning.

Following the presentation of graduation medals and certificates, Lily-Anna’s close friend Ellie-Mai was invited to present the candle to Lily-Anna’s mother, Lorraine.

The candle, which has accompanied the school community through many important moments, now continues its journey beyond the school gates.

The presentation symbolised that while Lily-Anna’s classmates are moving on to a new chapter in their lives, her memory travels with them.

It was a touching reminder that she remains forever part of their class story and of the Holy Family National School family.

Special thanks were extended to Sixth Class teachers Mrs. Claire Dempsey and Ms. Laura Daly for their dedication and guidance, as well as to Mr. O’Connor, Ms. Twomey and Mrs. Horan for their support throughout the year.

Each graduate received a medal and graduation certificate to mark the occasion before being wished every success as they begin life in secondary school.

While there were tears as well as smiles, the overriding feeling was one of pride and hope.

The Class of 2026 leaves Holy Family NS with wonderful memories, lifelong friendships and the confidence to embrace whatever challenges and opportunities lie ahead.
