PUPILS from primary schools throughout Kerry were at The Meadowlands Hotel last Friday for a showcase day in which they displayed their Lego Spike projects.
The Education Support Centre, Tralee undertook an initiative this year, which involved the Primary Schools — Kilcummin NS; Scoil Bhreac Chluain, Annascaul; Gaelscoil Lios Tuathail; Gaelscoil Faithleann and Scoil Dar Earca, Valentia.
Each school nominated two teachers who attended a series of workshops, and received Lego Spike kits for their classroom.

Lego Spike is a hands-on solution that uses playful learning experiences to engage primary school students in STEAM learning, putting them on the path to becoming resilient, independent thinkers.
Over the course of the year, pupils engaged in guided lessons, aligned with Science concepts, while also becoming familiar with coding their designs.
Their projects were based on the theme of “Our School Yard in the future”. Schools focused on play, sustainability and innovation as they designed their projects, and coded them to follow commands.
The Shared Learning Day gave pupils a chance to meet with other schools and discuss their designs and their vision for the future.
“It is quite possible that we met some future engineers and innovative scientists during the event, and it was a fantastic celebration of the Lego Spike journey in Kerry this year,” said Michelle Culloty of The Education Centre.
“A massive thanks to all of the schools involved, and the teachers who gave their free time to attend the workshops over the course of the year,” she added. Scroll down for photos…
