OVER 150 runners registered for the ‘Summer Solstice 10k’ which was run in horrible conditions on Sunday night.
It was the tenth anniversary of the run which was started back in 2005 by Jim McNeice as he looked to raise money for the ‘Irish Heart Foundation’.
Runners took shelter from the rain in the Brandon Hotel before the race started from Neil Armstrong way, outside Siamsa Tire, and runners then headed up James Street to O’Rahillys Villas on to Lohercannon through Blennerville left at Tonevane cross, down pass the rugby club and back to the Brandon.
In the end the men’s race was won by Michael O’Regan (33:47) followed by Joe O’Connor (34:23) with Derek Griffin (34:46) in third.
The women’s race was won by Sharon Cahill (41:14) with Catherine O’Sullivan (44:20) in second and Anne Kelliher (46:31) in third.
