PRESENTATION Primary School recently transformed into a vibrant hub of global culture, colour, and community spirit as students, staff, and families came together to celebrate annual International Week.

The school corridors buzzed with excitement, as the five-day event honoured the diversity of cultures shaping the school community.

Events of the week included poetry recitals, handprints, buddy walks and chats, a food fair, dress-up day and a concert.

The week began with a tribute to the children’s native languages, where pupils performed poetry in the languages of their countries of origin.

This cultural pride was further captured visually in the classrooms, where students created a striking collaborative art piece by making handprints in the colours of their respective national flags.

Daily activities also prioritized connection and friendship. Through “buddy walks and chats,” older and younger pupils paired up to stroll, share stories, and learn about one another’s backgrounds.

On Wednesday, parents prepared and brought in an array of traditional dishes from around the world. On “Cultural Dress-Up Day”, the school corridors became a sea of global fashion and colour as pupils arrived dressed in their traditional cultural garments.

The week reached its ultimate high point on Friday, culminating in a spectacular finale concert in the school hall. Parents, grandparents, and members of the local community gathered to be entertained by a magnificent showcase prepared by pupils from 3rd to 6th class.

The concert blended global traditions with local heritage, featuring music, singing, dancing, Irish history displays, and detailed student project work.

The audience learned about the flags of different nations and listened to students reciting verses in various languages, providing an English translation to offer context to each piece.

The show also featured two guest performances. Manoj, from India, mesmerized the packed hall with a masterful, rhythmic demonstration on the traditional tabla drums.

One of the Sudanese parents then took to the stage to deliver a performance of a traditional song that deeply moved everyone in attendance.

Reflecting on the success of the event, all at the school agreed that it was an amazing week, celebrating not only where the students come from, but how they come together as a unified community.
