PRESENTATION Secondary School Tralee has been awarded the very first Post-Primary Active School Flag in County Kerry.
This award reflects years of dedication, enthusiasm, and teamwork from both students and staff. The Active School Flag journey began in 2021, led by Transition Year (TY) Active School Flag classes, who worked tirelessly to create a culture where physical activity is inclusive, enjoyable, and part of everyday school life.
Following the official post-primary programme launch this year, they now officially hold Active School Flag status.

The Active School Flag (ASF) is a national initiative that recognises schools for their commitment to promoting physical activity and wellbeing across the whole school community.
The recent expansion of the programme to post-primary level was officially launched by Minister for Helen McEntee in 2026, highlighting the importance of active lifestyles for young people.
The school has celebrated movement and wellbeing through a wide range of exciting initiatives and events.
Highlights included the hugely popular 12 Days of Fitmas, which brought festive energy and daily physical challenges for the whole school community, and ‘Step into Christmas’, encouraging students and staff to stay active during the winter season.
Their calendar has also been packed with competitive and fun activities such as year group tournaments, fostering teamwork and school spirit across all classes.
They also organised a vibrant Fun Run and introduced creative events like “Dodgeball Team-Up”, where 1st Year students partnered with TY students, helping to build connections, confidence, and a strong sense of community within the school.
The school would also like to extend its sincere thanks to the Active School Flag teams since 2021, and especially the ASF mentor Mary and those working with Active School Flag, for their constant support, encouragement, and guidance throughout this journey.
