THERE are reports in the media today that suggest that filming for Star Wars Episode 8 is set to take place on Skellig Michael in September and that the location could play a big part in the overall Star Wars story.

The team over at ‘’ in their article HERE have reported that that the island is the refuge for aged Jedi Luke Skywalker in the new films and an inside source claims that the final shot of Episode 7: The Force Awakens will be a slow, zoom outwards from Skellig Michael.

If it’s true it could result in a tourism bonanza for the area.

The article also goes on to state that filmmakers have booked a six week block of filming here in Kerry, starting on September 14  which they believe is for shooting new footage for Star Wars Episode, due for release in 2017.
