A LOCAL man has already raised thousands of euro from a charity initiative where he is encouraging people to walk or run 5k, on their own, to raise funds for the Irish Cancer Society.
Shane Kenny from Churchill, who now works in Cork City, came up with the idea after the Society had to cancel their annual Daffodil Day fundraiser due to the Coronavirus crisis.
He set up a gofundme page asking at least 27 people to run a solo 5k walk or run, strictly adhering to social distancing guidelines, and make a donation before this Friday, March 27.

“I felt compelled to help provide in some small way an alternative fundraising avenue,” said Shane on the gofundme page. “Anyone is welcome to participate or contribute but please act responsibly and respect social distancing by completing the challenge alone. Please share a selfie at the end of your journey with #27forthe27th attached!”
Nearly €3,000 had been raised by lunchtime on Wednesday and people still have time to complete the run/walk before Friday. Click here to go to the gofundme page
