PEIL FAOI 7/8/9: Our Under 7/8/9 footballers will be in action at 11am next Sunday, 6th October, in Caherslee. Never too late to join!
PEIL FAOI 11: (i) Football will again take place in Connolly Park at 10.50am on Sunday next (6ú Deireadh Fómhair). (ii) More football on Thursday…what else? (iii) In 1984, the year of the ‘Cork 800’ celebrations (even though Corcaigh was in existence for more than a 1,000 years before that!), our Under 11 boys made The Rock Club’s first trip to the Northside of Cork City for the inaugural Dee O’Leary Invitational Tournament (peil) and, 40 years on, we are still making this annual ‘football pilgrimage.’
On Saturday next (5th October) our current Under 11 boys will have their turn. With seven other Cork clubs in attendance this tournament promises to be a wonderful festival of football that will give our young stars a great opportunity to experience the highs and lows of our game as well as getting to know some of Cork’s future heroes. Our boys will be a match for any opposition! It’ll be a great ‘day out’….enjoy the trip, lads, and wear the Black‘n’Amber’ with pride! Up The Rock!
CAID FAOI 15: (i) We played a great Town League match on Monday last (30th) against the John Mitchel Club boys in their Ballyseedy home pitch. Well done, lads! (ii) Our B lads have a Tralee Town Championship final to play against Na Gaeil. The time, date and venue have still to be confirmed. Official training sessions have ceased for now as our season draws to a close; tá clabhsúr an tséasúir ag teannadh linn! (ii) The Green CBS did very well v Neidín on Wednesday (25th) at the Kerry GAA Grounds in Caherslee. Result: The Green 2-18; Pobalscoil Inbhear Scéine 3-8. It was an evenly-fought contest in testing conditions. Tralee scored a good goal before half-time to give them an 0-6 lead (1-10 to 1-4.) ag an mbriseadh. They produced a really good team performance throughout the second half even though Kenmare scored two goals late in the game. Both Ryan O’Driscoll and Ronan Carroll were efficient in their scoring, ní nach ionadh; Seán Óg Brosnan and Fionán Ryan played well in defence. The Coláiste Phádraig boys of Castleisland, who defeated Pobalscoil Chorca Dhuibhne by 0-5, have been scheduled to challenge Tralee CBS in the semi-final this Wednesday, 2nd October (1pm), in Firies. The Rock boys ar phainéal na Faiche: Seán Óg Brosnan (2), Fionán Ryan (6), Ronan Carroll (10), Ryan O’Driscoll (14), Donnacha Horgan (21) and Olivier Lata. An Fhaiche Abu! (Adrienne Mhic Lochlainn)

CLUB LOTTO: Thanks once again to all club lotto supporters and promoters and especially to (i) The Burger Shack, Móin an Bhealaigh, (ii) The Brogue, Sráid na Carraige, (iii) Siopa Chaoimhín de Barra, Sráid na Carraige Uachtarach, (iv) Commane’s Bookshop (PC Books), Sráid na Carraige, (v) O’Flynn Interiors, Sráid na Carraige, (vi) Hussey’s Deli and Newsagency, Cé an Phrionsa, (vii) Carmel Cuiltéir, AdeS.
THE ROCK SENIORS: (i) Good luck to the Naomh Breandán divisional team, with Rockmen Michael Tansley, Colin Griffin, Dylan Ó Cathasaigh, Joey Nagle, Armin Heinrich, Joe O’Connor, Daniel Kirby and Mike O’Donnell on board, in their game v Seamróga Neidín on Saturday next (October 5th) at 3.30pm in Fitzgerald Stadium. Up The Rock!
CIARRAÍ: We wish a ‘happy retirement’ (for the moment!) from their management role with Mná Chiarraí to Dara Ó Lúing agus Déaglán Ó Cuill. Dheineadar éacht le cúpla bliain anuas agus nach iontach an t-ardú meanma agus an t-uchtach a thug a gcuid imreoirí ban do Chiarraí i mbliana.
PEIL FAOI 7/8/9: Our Under 7/8/9 football at 11am next Sunday, 22nd September, in Caherslee. Never too late to join!
ON THE WEB: Take a peep at Adrienne’s album on the club website gallery. See nice photos snapped at Sunday’s juvenile academy (boys), including Kilcummin boys who were our visitors to Connolly Park. Also search for pictures by Eddie Barrett and by Adam Kowalczyk. Black‘n’Amber everywhere!
PEIL FAOI 11: Football in Connolly Park at 10.50am on Sunday next (22ú Meán Fómhair) and again on Thursday (26ú).
PEIL FAOI 13/14/15: (i) A very successful Lee Strand Football U14 Tournament took place on Saturday last (14th) in Connolly Park. Some outstanding teams participated in the proceedings. Finalists: the Austin Stack Club and the John Mitchel Club. A great local derby! The Lee Strand final was won for the first time ever by Na Mistéalaigh who played very good football and were deserving victors. Promising for local football but very disappointment for our young Rockies! The Rock Club was represented by two teams….with nearly 40 boys involved.
Austin Stack Club Team 1: captain…David Ahern; squad…Oran O’Regan, Conor Maguire, Ryan O’Flaherty, Diarmuid Hennessy, Shea Horan, Mark Riordan, Alex O’Flaherty, Jayden O’Dowd, Michael Carmody, Liam Swords, Billy Kirby, Blake Bowler, Danny Lane, Noah Reidy, Conor Murphy, Tadhg Lucey, Oisín Horan, Kian Cronin. They played in the Plate semi-final against Churchill.
What great great football experience for so many boys! Read here next week for accounts of games. All our coaches were and are very proud of their young footballers’ performances.
All boys gave their best in true Rock fashion! We wish the best of luck to all for the rest of their seasons with the U13s and/or U15s. ‘Well done’ to all who were involved in the running of another very successful Lee Strand Tournament! Lá iontach oibre ag oibrithe iontacha díograiseacha dílse! It was so nice to see Nóra O’Connor, wife of the late Dinny O’Connor, and son, Denis Junior, presenting the Denis O’Connor/Lee Strand Cup to the winning captain, Calvin O’Sullivan. (Beannacht Dé le hanam Denis).
And a bit of Rock history from Adrienne: out of the 37 Lee Strand Tournaments that have taken place since 1986, Rock teams have won ten….a great record.
The years and team captains are as follows: 1986…Armin Heinrich whose son, Armin, is on the Kerry senior panel; 1987…Brian Shanahan, a lover of the ash and leather, who worked hard for many years promoting the ‘skilful game’ within our club; 1994…Conor Carroll; 1995…Andy McAllen (beannacht Dé dhilís lena anam); 1996…Martin Courtney who has served the club well; 1998…Stephen O’Mahony; 2003…Craig O’Hara; 2004…Fergal Maunsell; 2012…Robbie Murphy; 2016…Shane Bastible who still kicks the leather sphere.
(ii) ‘Well done’ to our U15 players who contributed significantly to the minor team’s County Championship efforts all the way to that truly spirited final performance v Bordcheantar Naomh Ciarán i Staid an Ghearaltaigh. Three of our U15s made the starting 15! Good experience gained in the county’s biggest stadium! Huge disappointment but setbacks improve character! They should be very proud of their efforts, commitments and achievements.
(iii) ‘Well done’ to our lads who gave of their almighty best on Wednesday September 18th in the U15 Central League Division 1 Final v Na Gaeil in Austin Stack Park. Another great effort and performance by our boys! (iv) We’re still hoping that a Town League will be held in the coming weeks. We’re hungry for more football as we head into the final stages of the season. (Ger Hobbert, Dan Ahern, Adrienne McLoughlin, Ed O’Regan)
MINORS: (i) ‘Well done’ to our minors who did us proud in the Keanes Supervalu Minor County Championship, only barely losing the final to St Kierans in Fitzgerald Stadium. These are our Rock minors who played superb football throughout the season, defeating several quite strong DIVISIONAL teams, and were only pipped in the county final by…..three seconds: Ryan O’Driscoll (capt), Oliver Lata, Eoin Mangan, Fionán Ryan, Aodhán Horgan, Jayden Moriarty, Gavin Casey, Darragh Lyons, Alex Tuohy, Ben Murphy, Rory Lynch, Ronan Carroll, Harry Murphy, Jack Diggin, Cormac Bastible, Jake Carmody, Jamie Casey, Ben Litchfield, Conor O’Regan, Adam Johnson, Leon Sweeney David Mullins, Jack Shanahan, Max Gryzbowski, Jayden O’Dowd, Gabriel Maszorak, Tadhg Falvey, Brian Kavanagh. Final score…AdeS: 1-13; St Kierans: 2-12. They were very unlucky in that final after another fine performance. Great effort, boys! But, remember, boys that you are deserving Kerry County CLUB Champions for 2024.

GEARÁN: How come? Our national tv sports news mentioned and showed a ‘clip’ and an interview of only ONE county championship match in Ireland on Sunday night…hurling in Kilkenny…and showed several on across-the-water football! This seems usual practice from ár stáisiún náisiúnta! Shouldn’t we be shown many championship games played in IRELAND? Ca’il an mórtas cine?
NA MISTÉALAIGH: The Tralee John Mitchel Club was in existence in 1886, two years after the founding of the GAA. It is believed that the Club was founded in OAKPARK. Now! They won their first County Championship in 1897 (or rather shared it with Cathair Saidhbhín). They have won 10 senior football championships.

ÁR bPEILEADÓIRÍ SINSEARACHA: ‘Well done’ to our club senior team (Intermediate Club Championship) that defeated Glenbeigh/Glencar…1-7 to 0-14…in Connolly Park on Sunday last. Go n-éirí go geal leo sa chraobh v Raonaithe na Leamhna.
‘MÁISTRÍ’ CHIARRAÍ: Sympathies to William Kirby and the Kerry ‘Masters’ who were pipped by Roscommon…1-5 to 0-7…and consequently were unsuccessful in qualifying for the All-Ireland ‘Masters’ Final.
Other teams that The Kingdom overcame along the way: Cork (0-9 to 0-6), Clare (1-20 to 0-5), Galway, Kildare (0-13 to 0-5), Limerick (1-10 to 0-6) and Antrim. Dublin defeated Kerry by the bare minimum (1-10 to 1-9) earlier in the competition. Tyrone defeated Kerry in last year’s final and Dublin toppled them in the 2022 semi-final. Beidh lá eile ag an bPaorach, b’fhéidir!

PEIL FAOI 11: (i) More Football-for-Fun will take place at 10.50am on Sunday next (25ú Lúnasa) in Connolly Park nuair a chuirfimid fáilte Uí Cheallaigh roimh leaideanna óga an Daingin (Dingle). PEIL FAOI 15: (i) Training continued during the week with sessions on Wednesday evening and on Sunday morning. Wednesday sessions are part of the Tralee Development Programme in which all the town teams are involved and playing together. We encourage all players not involved with the Tralee District team to attend these sessions. The sessions are open to all. (ii) The Central League final is fast approaching and, so, let’s keep up the fitness work, boys….ní bhíonn damhsa gan dua….no dancing without hard work! Ár bhfreasúra: Na Gaeil. Up The Rock!
(iii) U15 Team members were well represented in our minor team’s victory in Kenmare last Monday evening. Eoin Mangan and Darragh Lyons made the starting 15 and Harry Murphy and Jamie Casey got game time in the 2nd half. Maith sibh, a bhuachaillí!
(iv) We are delighted to mention that, last week, 9 boys from the Austin Stack Club were chosen to be among the starting 15 on the Tralee District team. They challenged Castleisland District at a wet and windy John Mitchel Club complex.
A very bright start by the Tralee lads had them leading by 11 points at the break. Unfortunately, this turned out to be a game of two halves. The Castleisland District boys dealt much better with the conditions than our lads. They played some very good football and fought their way back into the game and eventually took the win with a free kick in the last play of the game. Ó, a Thiarcais!
Yes, that was very disappointing for our lads but there is a lesson to be learnt from this result….the game is never over until it’s over….until the last tweet on the referee’s whistle! Ní breac go port…not a trout ‘til on the bank! On the positive side…all Tralee’s scores came from Rock players and that’s a good news story! (v) Our unfortunate Division 6 lads who were pipped in the semi-final: Oran O’Regan; Conor Murphy, Ediart Topali, Eliot Calleja; Joe O’Halloran, Mark Foley, Oisín Cotter; Ryan Moriarty, Séamus Keenan; Diarmuid Hennessy, Kyle Yoxhall, Nathan O’Connor; David Ahern, Killian Coffey, Tadhg Somers; Liam Swords, Ewan Canty, Jayden O’Dowd, Fionn Cotter, Joe de Barra, Ryan O’Flaherty, Noah Reidy. Beidh lá eile ag an bPaorach! (vi) Our three boys on the North Kerry Development squad: Anraí Ó Murchú, Conchúr Ó Riagáin agus Eoin Ó Mongáin. We look forward to hearing good reports on their All-Ireland final bid! Good luck, boys! Ciarraí Thuaidh Abú! (Ger Hobbert)

ÁR bPEILEADÓIRÍ SINSEARACHA: ‘Well done’ to our senior club team (Intermediate Club Championship) that defeated Legion in Connolly Park on Sunday last. Go n-éirí go geal lenár bhfoireann sa leathchraobh v Gleann Beithe/Gleann Chárthaigh.

PEIL FAOI 15: (i) We are delighted that our Division 1 boys, tar éis dóibh buachaint ar an nGaeltacht, have qualified for another final…their 2nd of the season…but, as the County District Competition for the U15 boys is underway, there will be a delay in playing the final. Yes, boys, let’s try to stay fit and injury free for the final. With the bit between the teeth, we hope to be ahead at Becher’s Brook and all the way to the final final whistle! Opposition: Na Gaeil. Up The Rock!
(ii) Our Division 6 lads were unlucky in their semi-final v GGC (Gleann Beithe, Gleann Chárthaigh agus An Cromán).

ÁR SÁR-BHANPHEILEADÓIR: It was nice that Fr Pádraig introduced our club’s recent All-Ireland (gold) medallist, Aoife Ní Dhuilleáin, to the congregation at last Saturday’s Vigil Mass in his church, Séipéal Mhuire is Naomh Breandán! Bualadh bos mór!

(ii) After having had a very enjoyable journey to Churchill’s grounds, with its panoramic view of Barrow Harbour, our lads headed to Puck where they faced the might of Laune Rangers in a great game. We look forward to another exciting challenge this Thursday at 6.30pm.
FAOI 14: We can’t wait for the Lee Strand Football one-day U14 Tournament for boys born in 2010 or 2011. The games will take place on September 14th. Of course, trial games will have to be played to select the best possible Austin Stack Club team. So, boys, keep an eye out for group messages for details. (Ger Hobbert)A
AN CAMPA PEILE: Great fun was had by all at last week’s Austin Stack Club summer camp in Connolly Park. An atmosphere of camaraderie, interaction, challenges, competition and games enveloped our club headquarters!
Yes, football fun was ‘the order of the day’! All the boys and girls worked diligently on their football skills and had ‘a ball’! ‘Well done’ to the organisers and to all who helped to make the week a success! Rock power!
PEIL FAOI 15: (i) On Wednesday 31st our Division 1 boys played their semi-final of the Central League v An Ghaeltacht in Gallaras and, after another strong display, the game ended on a scoreline of AdeS: 3-16; Gaeltacht: 0-4. Well done, boys!
Because of this outstanding result we have secured our 2nd final of the season but, unfortunately, there will be a delay in playing that final as the County District Competition for the U15 boys will commence immediately.
This is somewhat disappointing for us as the team has been building up momentum and playing some really outstanding strong football but, le cúnamh Dé, we can stay fit and injury free for the final. Up The Rock!
(ii) The U15 Central League Division 6 semi-final was played on Friday 2nd in Cromane v an amalgamation of three clubs…Gleann Beithe, Gleann Chárthaigh agus An Cromán. Result: Glenbeigh/Glencar/Cromane: 1-16; AdeS B: 2-7.
So, our U15B Central League campaign came to an end in a keen contest in picturesque Cromane. Disappointment for our braves but we were proud of their great effort and spirit and determination. Despite the home team having the advantage of a strong breeze in the first half, the ‘Black‘n’Amber’ boys ensured that the early exchanges were even and held the lead midway through the first half…thanks to a well-worked and outstanding teamgoal.
Ultimately, the hosts made the elements count, they built up a decent, if not unassailable, lead with some well-taken points and lead at the break. Scór leathama: 1-10 go 1-3.
The 2nd half was a similarly even affair; however, as our boys strove with might and mane to close the gap, Glenbeigh/Glencar/Cromane held out and maintained their advantage and, dá bhrí sin, (as Louise Ní Mhuircheartaigh would say) ‘ag deireadh thiar thall agus i ndeireadh na dála’, they ran out six-point winners!!
A performance of which all Black‘n’Amber aficionados can be proud was given by our lads! Against strong opposition they never flinched and died with their boots on!
Thanks to the G/G/C clubs and to the referee for a fine entertaining and sporting game. The Austin Stack Club U15Bs: Oran O’Regan; Conor Murphy, Ediart Topali, Eliot Calleja; Joe O’Halloran, Mark Foley, Oisín Cotter; Ryan Moriarty, Séamus Keenan; Diarmuid Hennessy, Kyle Yoxhall, Nathan O’Connor; David Ahern, Killian Coffey, Tadhg Somers; Liam Swords, Ewan Canty, Jayden O’Dowd, Fionn Cotter, Joe de Barra, Ryan O’Flaherty, Noah Reidy.
(iii) We have 14 players involved in the Tralee District team that was scheduled to open their County Championship campaign on Wednesday evening with an away fixture v Ciarraí Láir (Mid-Kerry) in Milltown. Maith sibh, a bhuachaillí Thrá Lí.
(iv) Congratulations to our three players, Harry Murphy, Conor O’Regan and Eoin Mangan, who played with the North Kerry Development squad in their All-Ireland semi-final victory over Laois last weekend. Did you see the nice photo of the three of them on austinstacks.ie? Ciarraí Thuaidh Abú! (Ger Hobbert, Dan Ahern)

An fhoireann rathúil (successful) bhuacach (victorious): Oliver Lata; Aodhán Horgan, Max Maszorak, Gabriel Maszorak; Adam Johnston, Fionnán Ryan, Leon Sweeney (0-1), Alex Tuohy, Ben Murphy (2-2); Rory Lynch, Ronan Carroll (0-3), Jayden Moriarty; Gavin Casey (0-1), Ryan O’Discoll, Cormac Bastible; Eoin Mangan, Tadhg Falvey, Jake Carmody, Jack Diggin, Harry Murphy. Trial games will be played to select the best Austin Stack Club team and, dá bhrí sin, keep an eye out for group messages for details. (Ger Hobbert)
PEIL FAOI 15: (i) On Wednesday (24th) our Division 1 team travelled to Milltown for our Central League game v Milltown/Castlemaine. The first half was a close, tight and exciting affair. Two early goals in the opening minutes of the second period saw us take control of the game and take the win. This result means that we’ve now qualified for the semi-finals (with a game still to be played).
(ii) Our Division 5 team was in action on Wednesday (24th) v Glenbeigh/Glencar/Cromane. We had already secured a semi-final spot but, unfortunately, due to injuries and holidays, we could not field our strongest team. ‘Well done’ to the boys who did line out against a stronger 3-club team. Our lads put in a massive effort but, faraor agus ochón, the opposition was far too strong and grabbed the win. Keep the heads up now, boys, and let’s think about the upcoming semi-final. Come on, The Rock!
(iii) On Sunday morning last (28th), our Division 1 team took on the John Mitchel Club U15s in our final pool game. Imríodh an cluiche i mBaile Ó Síoda. Even though we were already through to the semi-finals of the Central League, we had another prize in mind! Having never beaten this JM team on their home patch over the last 4 seasons, we badly wanted to gain a victory in this one encounter! A matter of Rock pride! It was tight enough first half and the scoreboard had us leading at the break by just a point…JM: 2-5; AdeS: 2-6. Again, two quick goals after the restart had us move into a strong lead. A very strong 2nd half saw us take the win. JM: 4-12; AdeS: 9-10. Great goals and a mighty win after a massive effort from every single one of the lads who wore the Black‘n’Amber. Maith sibh, a leaideanna na Carraige! Éacht oibre!
(iv) Wednesday 31st was scheduled as the day/date for the semi-finals of the Central League. Venue and time has still to be confirmed. PEIL FAOI 11: (i) Football-for-Fun will take place at 10.50am on Sunday next (28ú Iúil) in Caherslee and at 6.20pm on Thursday in our own Connolly Park. These sessions will continue as we await the next series of v.i.p. games, namely, the exciting Central League challenges. Brilliant encounters ahead! Our various challengers: Firies, Ballyduff, Kilcummin and Milltown! Boys, can we live with the excitement? (ii) On Tuesday of last week (16th July) we attended the Munster U11 Activity Day in Fitzgerald Stadium where our boys had three consecutive games, trí cinn de chluichí iontacha spórtúla v Listowel, Rathmore and Bride Rovers (Cork). What a great and exciting day was had by our young and enthusiastic Rockites. Among the high points of a wonderful day was a tour of the famed Dick Fitzgerald Stadium. Just imagine being in the dressing rooms of our Kerry stars….the rooms in which David and Páidí Clifford, Joe O’Connor, Dylan Ó Cathasaigh, Diarmuid Ó Conchúir, Armin Heinrich, etc, etc, tog out for their big intercountry matches!! Lá dá saol a bhí ann! (Colm Ó Mongáin)
UNDER 14: The Lee Strand Football one-day Tournament for boys U14 (born 2010, 2011) is fast approaching (September 14th). Trials (not to be missed!) will be taking place to select a Austin Stack Club team and, so, keep an eye out for group messages for details. (Ger Hobbert)
PEIL FAOI 15: Everybody is happy that U15 competitive games have returned again! (i) On Sunday 7th we hosted Na Gaeil in Division 1 of the Central League. We started slowly and had a disappointing first half but in the 2nd half, once we pulled up our socks and got motoring, we played some really good football. Unfortunately, we couldn’t get fully on top of buachaillí an Chillín and were unlucky to lose the game by a single solitary post.
(ii) Following a quick turnaround, our Division 1 team was back in action on Wednesday 10th (July) and played at home (i bPáirc Uí Chonghaile) v Laune Rangers. Nursing a few injuries and with a few players on holidays, we fielded a slightly restructured team. Laune Rangers had the better start and took the wind out of our sails with an early goal. Our braves, however, stuck to their task and chipped away at the Rangers’ early lead and, bit by bit agus céim ar chéim, brought the game level quite quickly. From then on, our lads really took control of this fixture.
Massive work rate from every player resulted in us being in the lead at the break…4-5 to 1-2. Thankfully, the introduction of substitutes at half-time didn’t weaken us. The players from Puck, however, lifted their game but our lads upped a gear or two, increased their work rate with a more polished Pogacar-like performance and were first past the winning post…a satisfactory Rock win, gan aon agó! Score…7-7 to 3-7.
(iii) Our Division 1 team had a lovely trip back west, passing by Sliabh Mis and Cnoc Bréanainn, to play v An Ghaeltacht in our 3rd Central League outing. A strong first half, in which we showed great skill and determination, had us in the lead at half-time….2-2 to 0-4.
Unfortunately, we couldn’t push on in the 2nd half and An Ghaeltacht caught up to us and levelled the game….bhíomar ar comhscór. We tried with might and mane to forge ahead but were unsuccessful in our efforts to pop over a winner before séideadh deireanach fheadóg an réiteora. Roinneadh na pointí and both teams came away with a point on the league table. Final score….AdeS: 2-4; An Ghaeltacht: 1-7. We now have two remaining games…v Baile an Mhuilinn on Wednesday and v Na Seán Mistéalaigh on Sunday. We’re through to the Central League semi-finals with a win in just one of these games! Come on The Rock!
(iv) On Friday 12th July our Division 6 team travelled to Killorglin for an away game v Laune Rangers. A disappointing start had us chasing the game for most of the hour. But Rock footballers don’t yield easily! Our boys, showing great heart and determination, brought the game back to a close contest.
Our lads even led by a 0-1 as the clock ticked down but, ochón agus mo bhrón, were denied outright victory by a late Rangers’ goal. Great effort, boys! Final score in Killorglin…Laune Rangers: 3-9; AdeS: 2-10.
(v) Our Bs were ar an mbóthar on Wednesday the 17th when they travelled to Killeen and took on Na Gaeil in Division 6 of the Central League. Scór deireanach….Na Gaeil: 4-10; AdeS: 4-9. ‘Well done’ to all who lined out. Numbers were tight and, so, a number of the U13 players had to step up a level to help out our U15s. These younger boys of The Rock contributed to an exciting encounter in which The Rock stalwarts came back from an 0-9 half-time deficit and lead by 0-1 with only a minute to go in the game. Victory would have capped a wonderfully courageous Rock resurrection but, unfortunately, the boys in green earned the laurels with their last kick of the game…a late late free that was popped over our trasnán. Briseadh croí! All our players can be very proud of their true Rock effort! A special word of thanks must go to Shane Carey from the U13 group who played in goals and gave a great goalkeeping performance. The team: Shane Carey, Conor Hanafin, Oisín Cotter, Tadhg Lucey, Tadhg Somers, Shea Horan, Nathan O’Connor, Alex O’Flaherty, Liam Swords, Killian Coffey, Billy Kirby, Dean Courtney, Michael Carmody, Ewan Canty, Tom Dawson, Eliot Calleja, Joe O’Halloran, Mark Foley. A big ‘thank you’ to our Austin Stack Club coaches, Martin Courtney and Dave Scanlon, for their help with this fixture. (vi) Please note that Central League

LAOCH AR LÁR: Cuimhnímis ar Mhícheál Ó Muircheartaigh atá imithe chun na síoraíochta! D’ardaigh sé ár gcroí go mion minic lena ghuth spreagúil agus cluichí Gaelacha á gcur os ár gcomhair ar raidió agus ar tv aige. He helped to give us pride in our Irishness…our games, our heritage, our language. What a zest he had for life! His advice to us….when waking in the morning: ‘dúiseacht le dúthracht le breacadh an lae / waking with enthusiasm with the dawn of day’! IOMÁNAÍOCHT FAOI 15: Congratulations to two Rock HURLERS, Cillian Litchfield and Haulie Cotter, who had the honour of performing at Féile na nGael (iománaíocht) in Wexford last weekend. A great feat! They were unlucky, however, to have been on the losing side against a strong Birr team in the semi-final of Roinn a Dó. Great to have Kerry hurlers playing in Wexford. ‘Well done’ to Ben and Haulie! Ó, is trua nárbh é an geansaí dubh is ómrach a bhí ar a ndroim acu beirt…if only!
When Kerry won our only senior hurling All-Ireland in 1891, Wexford were runners up! That 1891 hurling final was played on the 28th February 1892 in Clonturk Park (now the home of Dromcondra/Home Farm FC), on the bank of the River Tolka, Dublin. Kerry wore white geansaís in the final with the inscription ‘Up Kerry’ on them and they played in their bare feet! It is interesting to note, according to S.S Ó Conchubhair’s ‘Kilmoyley to the Rescue,’ that ‘the players were obliged to finance their own travel and expenses without County Board assistance.’
Michael Cusack was at that game and said afterwards to a prominent Kerryman: ‘I have never seen a finer exhibition of hurling in all my life. You ought to be proud of Kerry!’ Interestingly, one of those hard-won Kerry (winner’s) medals was found many many years later in a field in County Wexford!
PEIL FAOI 15: (i) Training sessions continue on Wednesday, on Friday and on Sunday in preparation for the upcoming Central League(s). The Central League will commence shortly and, so, boys, keep a look out for group messages. PEIL FAOI 13: County League Phase 2….expect text, boys. Training will take place on Tuesday night at the MTU.
PEIL FAOI 15: (i) Caherslee was the venue for the U15 Division 2 County League final on Wednesday 15th….a mouth-watering contest between Na Stacaigh and Na Mistéalaigh.
The atmosphere started to build as the teams gathered on a beautiful evening…ideal for a football match. Having come up short against this John Mitchel Club team over the last few years in various competitions our boys were feeling pressure!
They were a little nervous, to say the least, especially as they were without a few injured colleagues! Words of advice and encouragement were offered by the coaches and they named a slightly changed team. Then….the ball was in and the game was on! Early exchanges were as expected….hard, fast and tough….but we held our own!
Team captain, Ben Litchfield, led from the front and took our opening point. Midway through the first half Na Mistéalaigh had the upper hand….a Green‘n’Gold goal and some well-taken points had us faoi bhrú damanta. Yes, we were under pressure!
An unfortunate injury to Michael Cotter didn’t help matters but we finally got some good possession late in the half and went into the break just 3 points down. Scór leathama….AdeS 0-5; JM 1-5. We made a great start to the 2nd half and brought the difference down to a single point but again our opposition held out, kept calm, played well and, unfortunately for us, picked off a few more points.
Going on recent results between these two sides it felt like deja vu (as Émile Boirac wrote in 1876) once again; but the last quarter will be remembered by these boys for a while! Hard work, steely determination and great awareness by every player in Black‘n’Amber and, slowly and surely, this tie was brought back to level scores!
Late on, another strong attack from out of defence through the central channel resulted in a high ball landing in the forward line. Full forward Barry Laide was fouled in the process of grabbing the ball in the large square. Peno!
Jamie Casey carefully placed the pigskin, stepped up and took his goal well. In a nervy last few minutes we held on, kept cool heads and achieved a massive victory. A brilliant result!
This victory was a just reward for our young men who have worked hard at their football all year. Maith sibh, a leaideanna na Carraige! Final score…AdeS: 1-12; JM 1-9. Team: Conor O’Regan; Mark Riordan, Oran O’Donoghue, Fionn Cotter; Ryan O’Carroll, Eoin Mangan, Darragh Lyons; Jamie Casey, Ben Litchfield; Jack Delaney, David Hobbert, Michael Cotter; Danny Lane, Barry Laide, Denis Brassil; David Ahern, Ryan O’Flaherty, Joe de Barra, Noah Reidy. Injured team members: Harry Murphy and Jayden O’Dowd. Coaches for the final: Tim McMahon, Pa Laide, Eoghan Ó Gealbháin, Ger Hobbert.
(ii) U15 Division 9 semi-final….Killarney Legion B: 5-18; AdeS B: 5-1. Unfortunately, it wasn’t our U15B boys’ night against a strong, athletic and skilful Legion side in Doirín (Little Oak Wood) on Friday 17th May. The Rock boys got off to a dream start with a goal in the opening minutes. The home side then took control, kicking some fine points.
The Rock boys responded with another great goal to restore their 0-3 advantage but Legion powered through the 2nd quarter and held a commanding thirteen point half-time advantage. Half-time score…Legion: 3-10; AdeS: 2-0.
Credit to our boys….they came out fighting in the 2nd half and had reduced the deficit to 0-8 midway through the half. However, as we pushed to further close the gap, Legion got in for a fourth goal and put the result to bed! B’shin caidhp a’ bháis! Captain Kyle and the 25 boys who togged out in the Black’n’Amber, battled to the final whistle, as Rockmen do! Rock Player of the Match: Alex O’Flaherty…he came on and put in a fine display.
Thanks to the referee for his efficient handling of the encounter. We wish the best of luck to Killarney Legion in the final. We will regroup next week and start to prepare for the Central League. The Rock U15Bs: Barry Laide; Conor Murphy, Oisín Cotter, Diarmuid Hennessy; Mark Riordan, Seán McCannon, Ryan O’Flaherty; Joe de Barra, Fionn Cotter; Tadhg Somers, David Ahern, Liam Swords; Noah Reidy, Kyle Yoxhall, Dean Courtney; Tom Dawson, Eliot Calleja, Ewan Canty, Nathan O’Connor, Ediart Topali, John Riordan, Mark Foley, Joe O’Halloran, Alex O’Flaherty, Séamus Keenan. On the plus side, all 25 players who togged out were given the opportunity to have a run on the pitch and all got experience of a divisional semi-final. Thanks to our faithful fans! (Ger Hobbert)

PEIL FAOI 11: (i) Our trip to the U11 Kilmacud (Na Crócaigh) Tournament took place on Sunday last and what a great outing our youngsters and their mentors had! It was a wonderful festival of football involving many top teams from various GAA clubs around the country.
The games took place at University College Dublin; we wonder if some of our lads will enrol and study there in a few years! 25 of our boys made the journey, had a great time and played really great caid! All arrived home safely, TG….happy and tired! Buíochas mór leis na meantóirí flaithiúla cróga a thóg ár bpeileadóirí go Baile Átha Cliath.
(ii) Another enjoyable U11 GoGames session took place on Thursday last. We welcomed Milltown to our Connolly Park HQ. Brilliant football was played by our boys….skill, accuracy, combination play and determination were hallmarks of The Rock players! Well done, all! We look forward to another interesting outing on Thursday next at 6.30pm. Expect text!

PEIL FAOI 13: Action resumed on Sunday last after our mini-break and we played in the County League Phase 2. Expect text, boys. Training will take place on Tuesday night at the MTU.
PEIL FAOI 15: Another positive week for this group of young men! (i) On May Day we welcomed An Ghaeltacht to Connolly Park for the semi-final of the County League (Division 2). A slow/poor opening few minutes by us allowed the Gaeltacht boys to take a 7 points to 2 lead in the opening quarter.
Then a well-worked goal by Harry Murphy brought us right back into the tie. Micheal Cotter pointed a number of well-taken free kicks which gave us the advantage as we approached half-time. The teams were evenly matched throughout the 2nd half and a mighty goal by Barry Laide gave us a nice lead entering the final stages. Thankfully, we courageously and determinedly withstood a strong late rally by imreoirí láidre na Gaeltachta and we took the win. An scór…AdeS: 2-13; Gaeltacht: 0-15. Bua breá agus…and with it a place in the Division 2 final.
(ii) On Friday evening last we travelled to Listry to take part in this year’s U15 Féile Peile. We were drawn to play against An Ghaeltacht (arís!) in our opening match. It was a 20-minute game that was played at a fast and furious pace and was a tense affair. Thankfully, we were strong, we played well and we grabbed the spoils again. This meant that we had qualified for the semi-finals. A coin was tossed to determine who would proceed to the semi-finals as group winners.
Unfortunately, Lady Luck didn’t smile on us as it was the Keel/Listry lads who headed for Austin Stack Park the following morning as group winners. Saturday was a positive experience for our young lads making their way in the game. We took to the playing pitch in Austin Stack Park as deserving runners-up in our group; we were among the top underage footballers in the county.
We faced Firies in the opening game of the day. The first half was ‘tight’ and, ag am sosa, Firies just edged it on the scoreboard. Unfortunately, in the second half we had some bad luck when the leather sphere that seemed to be goal-bound just deflected off the upright; then a few players suffered injuries; sometimes things just don’t go our way! Mí-ádh! Firies took the laurels….AdeS:1-1; Firies: 0-8. Congratulations to the final winners.
(iii) Our Division 9 team was busy training during the week in preparation for the County League semi-final v Killarney Legion. Good luck, boys!
(iv) The big one! The Division 2 final v the John Mitchel Club boys. Keep an eye out on Club website and social media for match details. Please come out and support this young Rockie team in a town derby County League final! Thanks to our faithful fans! (Ger Hobbert)

PEIL FAOI 15: Last week was a busy week with mixed fortunes! (i) Following a win on Sunday nightthe 28th our Division 9 team was in action again 24 hours later when we hosted Ballymac. We had an exciting game but a strong Ballymac team took the laurels. So, the current state of play is as follows: on Wednesday next (15th) our B team will face Killarney Legion in the Division 9 semi-final. The game will be played in Killarney. Best wishes, boys!
(ii) On Wednesday night the 1st our Division 1 team travelled to Listry to take on Keel/Listry in a must wingame to remain in Division 1. Following a poor opening few minutes, after which we trailed by 6 points, we finally got going and upped our game! At the half-time break we were 6 points to the good! A great comeback! We looked forward to the 2nd half! We started with gusto (le flosc agus le fonn) and an early point gave us a 7 point lead but, unfortunately, the strong Keel/Listry boys reorganised themselves and picked away at our hard-earned lead; eventually ag deireadh thiar thall, the Ciarraí Láir lads were winners by 2 points. Croíthe briste! So, the current state of play is as follows: our A team has been scheduled to face An Ghaeltacht in the Division 2 semi-final this Wednesday evening (8th) in our own Connolly Park. Thanks to our faithful supporters. (Ger Hobbert)

PEIL FAOI 15: (i) County League Division 9B…AdeS B: 5-8; Ardfert B: 2-4. Congratulations to our U15B team on qualifying for a County League semi-final after another fine victory. The game was played in Ardfert on Sunday last (28th). The match had many of the hallmarks of the last outing (sa Ghaeltacht), a game in which our boys had control throughout and moved up the gears in the second half as required and were comfortable in their play and were deserving winners.
Thanks to Ardfert for arranging the match at short notice and thanks to the referee for his handling of the game. ‘Well done’ to our match captain, Seán, and to all the boys who gave of their ‘almighty best.’ That was another excellent team performance. Bhí spiorad agus anam sna himreoirí. ‘Well done’ to the returning Alex O’Flaherty who is a great addition to the squad. The Rock Player of the Match: Diarmuid Hennessy who was a colossus in defence.
(ii) The final group game was played on Monday last (29th) in Connolly Park v Ballymac. Well done, boys! PEIL FAOI 17: Our minors have two games played in the Central League. Our 1st outing was against Churchill at home in Connolly Park with a very young team. Though unsuccessful on the scoreboard, they put up a great show against older players and one couldn’t fault their brave efforts.
Our 2nd minor game was against a strong Ballymac team and, again, we were on the wrong side of the result. However, lining out with 11 minors in their first year is a daunting task but it is a great learning experience for them. Taithí a dhéanann máistreacht.
We played our 3rd match on Monday last v Laune Ranger ar an bPoc (i gCill Orglan). PEIL FAOI 7/8/9: Our Under 7/8/9 outdoor academy was a great success last Sunday ar fhéar glas Chathair Sailí! The 3rd outdoor session of ‘24 will take place Caherslee at 11am on Sunday next (28st April). Come along, boys, and enjoy another great Sunday morning football session. Fáilte roimh chách!
PEIL FAOI 10: Next SATURDAY will be a big day for our Under 10 group because we’ll be giving a big Rock welcome to the footballers of Monaleen (Limerick). Graham O’Connell, one of our former stars, will be bringing his new club’s Under 10 boys to Connolly Park; this will be a very special occasion. The games will commence at 11am. (Tim McMahon)
PEIL FAOI 11: (i) Brilliant U11 GoGames football was played last week in Killorglin v Laune Rangers. We had a lovely trip to Puck and were part of an exciting game of the proverbial two halves. We played against a strong breeze in the first half and held our own! We played outstandingly with energetic marathon-like running, highly efficient tackling and Joe-Dylan-Armin-like support play in true Rock fashion!
However, we conceded an unfortunate goal just before half-time which meant that we had an even a bigger challenge sa dara leath. An scór ag leatham….Raonaithe na Leamhna: 1-6; AdeS: 0-1. Ooops!
We started the 2nd period very strongly, we greatly dominated play and, with great determination and courage, we kept Rangers pinned back. Our super-human efforts got us back on level terms with the Launesiders but, try as we might, we couldn’t get our noses in front.
Then, in one of their rare attacks, the Cill Orglan warriors scored a decisive goal. Our boys never gave up, however, as is the custom with Black‘n’Amber teams, and we got back on level terms once again but….faraor, ochón agus mo bhrón….the opposition kicked the winning point with three minutes remaining ar uaireadóir an réiteora. Briseadh croí! Cad eile?
It has to be stated clearly, though, that our boys are undoubtedly improving all the time….session by session and game by game; they never give up and they fight to the end.
Final score…AdeS: 1-9; Laune Rangers: 2-7. Scorers: Danny (1-4), Harry (0-3) and Ben (0-2). Well done, lads….we learn from our experience and we look forward to the next encounter. Well done, all! Another exciting GoGames outing has been scheduled for this Thursday at 6.30pm.
Expect text, boys! (Tim McMahon/Colm Ó Mongáin) (ii) And Football-For-Funwill continue at 10.50am on Sunday next (28ú Aibreán) in Caherslee. Last Sunday’s session was very much enjoyed by all. And the swallows seem to have brought fine weather from their winter homes in South Africa! (Colm Ó Mongáin)
PEIL FAOI 13: Yes, a great start to our U13 season was made by our Rock boys against Na Mistéalaigh. We’re delighted to have got two good victories in the County League. Tá an tús maith déanta; anois leanaimis leis an dea-obair! We are looking forward to our next game….expect text. Training will take place on Tuesday night at the MTU. (Micko Horan)
IOMÁNAÍOCHT FAOI 15: ‘Well done’ to two U15 Rock boys, Ben Litchfield and Haulie Cotter, who hurled v Ballyheigue in the U15 Féile final. Ambaiste, ach tá iománaithe ar an gCarraig i gcónaí!
PEIL FAOI 15: The past week has been a successful one for this group of players…three league games and three victories!
(i) On the 15th our U15B boys continued their winning ways with a hard-fought but well-deserved victory over Kilcummin in Connolly Park. A very even opening meant that there was very little between the teams. Kilcummin had the better of the 2nd quarter and edged ahead.
However, a Rock goal just before the interval levelled matters before half-time….1-2 to 0-5. A strong third quarter, in which we scored 1-3 without reply, proved to be the winning of the game for the home team.
Zealous defending kept the visitors scoreless until the closing stages of the half when a late goal and point made the Rock boys sweat a little before victory was assured! Scór deiridh…AdeS B: 2-5; Cill Chuimín B: 1-6.
Thanks to the Kilcummin boys and mentors for a keen sporting contest. Mórbhuíochas do mheantóir foirne, Eoghan Ó Gealbháin, a ghlac le feadóg an réiteora in am an ghátair agus a cothrom na Féinne don dá fhoireann.
‘Well done’ to our match captain, Joe, and to all the boys. Special mention of Jaden Kareem on his debut for the Austin Stack Club: welcome on board, Jaden. The Rock Player-of-the-Match was Eliot Calleja who made a pivotal match-winning contribution with two great goals.
Foireann Faoi 15B: Conor Murphy; Conor Hanafin, David Ahern (0-1), Dean Courtney; Diarmuid Hennessy, Ediart Topali, Eliot Calleja (2-0); Ewan Canty, Jayden O’Dowd; Jaden Kareem, Joe Barry (0-2), John Riordan; Kyle Yoxhall, Liam Swords (0-1), Mark Foley; Mark Riordan (0-1), Nathan O’Connor, Oisín Cotter, Seán McCannon, Tadhg Somers, Tom Dawson. (Dan Ahern)
(ii) On the 17th our Division 1A team played away (ar an gCillín) to local rivals, Na Gaeil. Powerful performances by every player, right from the throw in, ensured that we took control of the game early on. The intensity didn’t drop throughout the 60 minutes and that was a massive improvement on the previous Sunday’s loss to Laune Rangers. The boys were really switched on for this one! Scór deiridh….Na Gaeil: 1-5; AdeS A: 5-10.
The players: Conor O’Regan; Mark O’Riordan, Darragh Lyons, Oran O’Donoghue; David Hobbert, Eoin Mangan, Ryan O’Carroll; Harry Murphy, Ben Litchfield (captaen); Jamie Casey, Michael Cotter, Barry Laide; Danny Lane, Jack Delaney, Jayden O’Dowd; David Ahern, Ryan O’Flaherty, Noah Reidy, Denis Brassil.
(ii) Our U15B boys maintained their 100% record with another fine performance and a great win in aghaidh na Gaeltachta in the stunning setting of Gallaras on the shore of Cuan Ard na Caithne (Smerwick) on the 18th April.
On winning the toss, the Stack Club boys played with the wind in the first half and had the better of the exchanges, though some wayward shooting and careless passing meant that the home team was still very much in the game.
A couple of goals before half-time gave The Rock boys a healthy seven point lead as they turned to face the elements in the second half. Scór leathama….AdeS: 3-7; An Ghaeltacht: 1-6.
A couple of astute positional switches paid off handsomely for The Rock as, once again, a powerful third quarter put the game beyond the home team’s reach. Credit to our boys!
They never let up and with tenacious tackling and delightful forward play, right to the final whistle, they ran out deserved and emphatic winners. Mórbhuíochas leis an nGaeltacht for a fine game and thanks to the referee for his efficient handling of the encounter.
‘Well done’ to our match captain, Jayden, and to all the boys on another excellent team performance. The Rock Player-of-the-Match: Seán McCannon who was excellent at wing back and immense at centre back! An scór deiridh i nGallaras….AdeS B: 6-13; An Ghaeltacht B: 1-09. These boys have earned a few days R&R after their week’s efforts. Foireann B na Carraige: Conor Murphy; David Ahern, Diarmuid Hennessy, Eliot Calleja (1-0); Ewan Canty (0-1), Fionn Cotter (1-0), Jayden O’Dowd (0-1); Joe Barry (0-3), Joe O’Halloran; Kyle Yoxhall (1-0), Liam Swords (0-2), Nathan O’Connor (2-0); Noah Reidy (1-4), Oisín Cotter, Seán McCannon, Tom Dawson (0-2).
Training continues on Sunday evening. Encouraging signs for these two teams! Hopefully, these boys will keep up the hard work! We’ve had no competitive games this week but, as always, keep watching out for group messages for information. (Ger Hobbert)

FAOI 15: Another busy week for the U15boys with training sessions, district/development squad trials and County League games! (i) (a) On Sunday last (14th) our Division 1A team hosted Laune Rangers in Connolly Park. It was an exciting and entertaining encounter in which we had our downs and our ups….and our downs!!
Following a bright start in the opening minutes, during which we lead after scoring from a well-taken free kick, we unfortunately found ourselves on the back foot for the rest of the half. With the aid of the strong wind as well as playing good football Laune Rangers lead by 0-8 ag am sosa…1-6 to 0-1.
It was an anxious sos for the mentors but they spoke with confidence, gave great encouragement to the players agus d’éist na himreoirí go haireach leo. Things started to click for us after the restart.
Strong fielding at midfield ensured that our boys were able to work the ball well and give valuable possession to the hard-working forwards who took their scores. By midway through the half we were back on level terms…a really great comeback! What heart!
And our boys were ‘motoring’ well but…ach, faraor, ochón agus mo bhrón…Laune Rangers scored an unfortunate goal as the match reached the closing stages. Yes, we replied again and brought it back to a one-point game but, unfortunately for us, the final whistle sounded too soon. We were pipped! Another topple at Becher’s Brook!
Congratulations to Laune Rangers on their win, thanks to Billy Lacey (a former Rock underage hurler) for doing his refereeing duties with impartiality and ‘well done’ to all our players for a massive heroic effort.
(b) On Wednesday last (17th) we played away to Na Gaeil in Division 1A of the County League. Well done on a great effort, boys! Beidh scéal an chluiche againn an tseachtain seo chugainn. Imríodh an leathchraobh i bPáirc Uí Chonghaile. Once again, we witnessed our great team spirit, our tireless efforts and our skilful use of the leather sphere! Well done, boys!

(ii) And we’re pleased to announce that Football-For-Fun will continue at 10.50am on Sunday next in Caherslee. Aililiú! Let’s pray for fine weather! (Colm Ó Mongáin)
FAOI 13: Our Under 13 teams had two good wins on Wednesday evening in the field of dreams. They took on and defeated the John Mitchel Club U13s. Tús maith, leath na hoibre….a good start to the County League for this very talented bunch. Well done, boys! Training will take place on Tuesday night at the MTU. (Micko Horan)
FAOI 15: Our competition season has finally got underway; both teams were in action on Wednesday of last week (3rd). (i) The U15 boys (Division 1A) did well v Kilcummin at home in Connolly Park. We started the game well and played great football but missed numerous goal opportunities in the first half. Having played with a breeze we lead….0-9 to 0-2….at half-time.
The second half was a keenly contested game and the undoubted star of the show was Noah Reidy who scored 4 David Clifford-like goals. Kilcummin got into the game, fought hard, gave of their best but, i ndeireadh na dála, the better team won. Result…AdeS: 4-11; Cill Chuimín: 3-6.
Well done, boys! Scorers: Noah Reidy (4-0), Harry Murphy (0-4), Danny Lane (0-2), Barry Laide (0-1), Jack Delaney (0-1), Hawlie Cotter (0-1), Darragh Lyons (0-1), Eoin Mangan (0-1). (Pa Laide) (ii) Our other U15 boys played their County League (Division 9A) match in beautiful senic Glenbeigh. These determined boys made a winning start to their County League campaign in a gripping contest i bPáirc na nGael, Gleann Beithe. The hosts made a fast start on their home pitch and dominated the early exchanges and that resulted, ní nach ionadh, in a series of fine points and a well-taken goal. The Rock boys faced a challenge!
The game could easily have run away from our boys but they hung in and, as the half wore on, they opened their own account with a couple of nice well-taken points. The half-time score…GGC B: 1-7; AdeS B: 0-2. Serious!
The second half started with a mini-explosion as the Black‘n’Ambers took control of the game and drove unrelentingly at the home defence with the full intent of clawing back the eight point deficit. In an exhilarating display of attacking football, with a flurry of brilliant points and a couple of cracking goals this objective was achieved within twenty whirlwind minutes. It was a joy to behold!
It was now the Stack Club boys who led as the game entered the closing minutes. Hearts fluttered! The hosts, to their credit, rallied and fought back in an effort to rescue the outcome but, however and to a man, The Rock stood firmly and saw out the game and claimed a memorable victory within a stone’s throw of the Behy River. Toradh…AdeS B: 2-8; Glenbeigh/Glencar/Cromane B: 1-9.
Thanks to the Glenbeigh/Glencar/Cromane team for a great sporting contest and ‘well done’ to the groundsmen on the excellent condition of the Glenbeigh pitch. Thanks to the match referee, Thomas Harold, for his handling of the game.
‘Well done’ to our match captain, Diarmuid Hennessy, and to the other eighteen boys who lined out in the ‘Black‘n’Amber. Certainly, a performance of which to be proud! GAELTACHT SCHOLARSHIP: Please contact the secretary of Bord Thrá Lí (GAA) to apply for a Gaeltacht Scholarship.
FAOI 17: (i) Our minors challenged Listowel Emmets on Easter Monday in Listowel and they did really really well. Final score…Lios Tuathail: 1-5; AdeS: 1-15. Well done, boys! (ii) Our minor boys continued their County League Division 1A League campaign with a deserved home win in Connolly Park against The Spa (Cill Airne) on Thursday evening last. The weather conditions were very challenging for both sides with constant wind and rain, as well as a heavy pitch, hampering the contestants. Full credit to both clubs for their best efforts in adverse conditions….maith sibh, a leaideanna!
The Rockies started the game strongly with several early attacks and gained some crucial scores to establish a strong lead…4-6 to 0-3…and they held that lead right up to half-time. Our stalwarts began the second half in an even more determined manner and put The Spa kick outs under relentless pressure and maintained that brú for the rest of the game.
This ultimately resulted in our dominance in possession and on the scoreboard. To their credit, our worthy opponents never gave up and kept fighting to the end. However, our Rockies never lost their grip on the game and ran out worthy winners on a final scoreline of 5-7 to 1-5. An Charraig Abú!
Special mention must go to Leon Sweeney, captain on the night, who deputised in goal as our regular keeper, Olivier Lata, was unavailable. Leon gave an excellent display in very trying conditions. Team…foireann bhuacach na Carraige: Leon Sweeney; Gabriel Maszorek, Max Maszorek, Rian Walsh; Ben Litchfield, Fionnán Ryan, Adam Johnston; Alex Touhy, Liam O’Connell; Harry Murphy, Cormac Bastible, Jack Diggin; Tomás O’Connell, Ben Murphy, Rory Lynch; Jack Shanahan, Tadhg Falvey, Darragh Lyons.
(iii) Our next outing, the County League Division 1 semi-final, was scheduled for Connolly Park on Monday last (8th) against Kenmare. And, once again, we witnessed our great team spirit and tireless work rate in every area of the pitch in this encounter. Well done, boys! Beidh scéal an chluiche sin againn an tseachtain seo chugainn, LCD. Management team…an bhainistíocht: Theo Diggin, David Courtney, Ronan Kavanagh, Liam Lynch, Frankie Murphy, Morgan O’Connell. WHY? Sports news on local radio on Sunday night last: priority was given, in club news, to another code in England and in Scotland before announcing the results of OUR country’s second most important national final(s) in Gaelic football! Was Dublin v Doire and Armagh v Tír Chonaill less important than club games in a faraway place? Why are GAA games playing ‘second fiddle’ on OUR airways? Are we less proud of our own? Náire? Mórtas cine ‘in easnamh’?
PEIL FAOI 7: Under 7 boys (2017, 2018, 2019 or 2020) will have another great session at 10am next Sunday (31st), Easter Sunday, in the Mercy Mounthawk School Hall….all new players welcome.

FAOI 15: (i) On bank holiday Monday, March18th, we travelled back west to An Ghaeltacht for their annual tournament. Unfortunately, the weather conditions were dreadful. We won two games and lost one in the round stages but in the afternoon it was decided to cut the competition short.

FAOI 17: Our U17 Minor Boys continued their County League Division 1A League on Sunday evening last with a hard-fought home draw in Connolly Park v An Ghaeltacht. An Ghaeltacht started strongly and thanks to an early goal, as well as a few well-taken points from frees, gave a big lead to the visitors.
Bhí rith an ráis ag however, buachaillí Chorca Dhuibhne! Our boys tried their best to narrow the gap but our opponents were ruthless in front of goal and left us 0-8 down at half-time….0-3 to 1-8.
We began the second half in a determined manner and put the Gaeltacht kick-out under relentless pressure for the rest of the game.
The successful implementation of this tactic ultimately resulted in our dominance in possession and, as a result, our dominance on the scoreboard.
We conceded only one further point to Gaeltacht in the second half while our tireless Rockies tagged on 1-6 leaving the final score at 1-9 to 1-9. Comhscór!
This was a closely fought contest and the spirited comeback to rescue a draw must be attributed to our team spirit and tireless work ethic in defence and attack.
Our next outing will be against An Spá….time and venue to be finalised. Team: Oliver Lata; Adam Johnston, Rian Walsh, Tomás O’Connell; Max Grzybowski, Liam O Connell, Jayden Moriarty; Gavin Casey, Alex Touhy; Cormac Bastible, Jack Diggin, Leon Sweeney; Aodhán Horgan, Rory Lynch, Jack Shanahan; Tadhg Falvey, Jay Sweeney. Management team: Theo Diggin, David Courtney, Ronan Kavanagh, Liam Lynch, Frankie Murphy, Morgan O’Connell. (Morgan O’Connell)

DUL FAOI LÁIMH EASPAIG: Congratulations to all our players who received the Sacrament of Confirmation last week in St Brendan’s Church. Críostaithe láidre!
MOUNTHAWK: Our sympathies to the Mercy Mounthawk senior footballers who were unfortunate v Omagh CBS in the All-Ireland Final of the Hogan Cup competition i bPáirc an Chrócaigh last Saturday. It just wasn’t their day! However, they played wonderful football, they graced GAA headquarters as outstanding ambassadors of Kerry football, they played sportingly and they gave of their ‘almighty best’ go dtí séideach deireanach fheadóg an réiteora!
They gave their followers a great season of exciting college football, they defeated other good college teams (including their near rivals, clubmates and good friends, the boys of The Green CBS….probably the 3rd best team in the country!!), they won Corn Uí Mhuirí, they won many admirers, made lifelong friendships, gained invaluable experience and…and they shortened our winter!
The dark cloud will lift and life will go on for these young men! Tá anam agus spiorad iontu seo! Mar a dúirt imreoir amháin tar éis an chluiche: ‘táim croíbhriste anocht ach tá BRÓD orm!’ We are so proud of our 10 Rock boys and their teammates. Laochra na Carraige 2024: Mícheál Tansley, Séamus Ó Bradáin, Pádraig Ó hAllmharáin, Seán Ó Murchú, Ben Ó Murchú, Dónal Ó Ciarba, Pádraig Ó Laighin, Noah Townsend, Stiofán Mac Conbhuí agus Bobby Ó Broin. Bheadh buachaillí Chnoc an tSeabhaic molta dá mbeimis inár dtost!
FAOI 13: Our U13 boys will be in action again this Friday evening (22nd March) at The Green CBS. Another enjoyable session coming up! (Micko Horan)
FAOI 15: (i) Our U15s have had another very busy week….three tough training sessions in preparation for the annual Gaeltacht football tournament which was held on bank holiday Monday last (18th) i nGallaras.
Bhí an-lá ag buachaillí na Carraige thiar sa Ghaeltacht. Beidh tuairisc ar na cluichí agus ar imeachtaí an chomórtais againn an tseachtain seo chugainn. (ii) This week has also been a very busy for us with two challenge games. On Tuesday evening, Castleisland visited us and we had an exciting and very beneficial game at the MTU and our lads played really good football. On Sunday morning next (24th) we will be hosting a Galway team in another challenge match before they travel on to ‘Beauty’s Home’ (Killarney) for the very important National League game between Kerry and Galway. (Many of our boys will also attend that game to shout on our own Joe, Dylan, Armin and Joey). These U15 challenge matches are good preparation for our fast approaching opening rounds of the U15 County League. Our first encounters are scheduled for Spy Wednesday (March 27th). Our Division 1A team will travel to Keel/Listry and our Division 9B team will travel to Ardfert. Bímis ullamh, a leaideanna! Go n-éirí go geal libh! (Ger Hobbert)

FREWEN CUP: Congratulations to The Green CBS footballers who defeated Coláiste Naomh Flannán, Inis, and Clonakilty Community College in the Frewen Cup (Munster U17A football) competition. On Wednesday (20th) they took on Coláiste Phádraig, Oileán Ciarraí (who pipped The Sem by 0-1), i mBántír, Contae Chorcaí, in the Munster Final. (Both Kerry college teams had to travel to County Cork (Bántír)….the nearest available ‘dry’ pitch!) The Rock boys on The Green panel: Oilibhéar Lata, Fionnán Ó Riain, Rónán Ó Cearúill, Aodhán Ó hArgáin and Ryan Ó Drisceoil.
AN GAELCHOLÁISTE: Peileadóirí Faoi 15 GCC were unlucky to miss out against Coláiste Íde agus Seosamh, Mainistir na Féile, in a tight affair ag Ionad Spóirt agus Fóillíochta Thrá Lí. Dhá phointe ónár Stacach, Joe de Barra, and his comrades’ heroic efforts were not sufficient to reduce the 3 point deficit that stood when the referee’s final whistle blew. Bhí Rory Ó Loinsigh ar an taobhlíne in his role as Oifigeach Idirchaidrimh (Liaison) Spóirt. We are gutted for our laochra óga ach beidh siad ar ais amach anseo!! (Dáithí Ó Loinsigh)

(ii) Unfortunately, last week’s much-looked-forward-to challenge game v the John Mitchel Club boys in Ballyseedy was cancelled due to the bad weather agus ba mhór an trua é sin!
(iii) A excellent challenge game that was enjoyed by all sides took place in the Townland of the Spring Wells (Fearann Fobhar/Farranfore) v Firies on Sunday morning last. Yes, it was a great morning of outstanding football and all our faithful U15s got plenty of game time. It was a tight affair in the opening 25 minutes and we were happy to be leading at the break.
Bhí go maith is ní raibh go holc! Unfortunately for us, Firies scored 3 quick goals in the early stages of the 2nd half. Encouragingly, however, our boys kept their heads and continued playing strongly in true Rock fashion!
An extra 15 minutes was played at the end of each half to give both teams plenty of playing time. The possession statistics show that the encounter was a 50:50 affair ach, faraor, the final score ar chlár na scóranna was 4-9 to 1-8. So, boys, we’ll have plenty to work on in the next few weeks before the competition season starts.
(iv) We have been drawn in Group 1A of the County League and we are looking forward to facing Laune Rangers, Kilcummin, Na Gaeil and Keel/Listry. Cluichí iontacha agus dúshláin (challenges) mhóra romhainn amach, gan aon agó agus gan aon dabht! Táimid ag tnúth go mór leis na County League fixtures; they’ll be announced shortly.
(v) Keep up your home training schedule and pay special attention to the core skills on which we have been working in the gym! (Ger Hobbert)

FEISTEAS CLUB: See what’s on offer on www.oneills.com
ÁBHAR CAINTE: Wouldn’t it be nice if we had inter-provincial games being played once again on March 17th? Wouldn’t it be good if top-class players from ‘weaker’ counties were given an opportunity to play on a ‘big stage’?
A ‘Railway Cup’ (called ‘M Donnelly Interpro’ in more recent times) competition medal used to be cherished. Imagine a star Kerry hurler, such as Shane Conway, playing on a Munster team with the likes of Cian Lynch (Limerick), Mark Rogers (Cork), Barry Heffernan (Tipp), Adam Hogan (Clare) or Mark Rogers (Clare) in a ‘Railway Cup Final’? Or Pat Óg Spillane playing football with Connacht?
