Cromane will receive €100,000 for the development of a connected community hub in the former national school building.

Finally €98,370 will be provided to redevelop Dingle Town Park creating an accessible and intergenerational recreational space for visitors and residents.

War Of Independence Remembered At Blennerville Commemoration

A COMMEMORATION was held on Sunday, at Robert Emmet Park, in Blennerville where local historian, Martin Moore, gave a short talk on the village’s involvement in the War of Independence, which ended 100 years ago, on July 11, 1921.

In the course of his speech, Martin referred to the daring escapades of Jimmy ‘the Yank’ O’Shea, former captain of the Blennerville Volunteers and of his sister, Sarah, who held a similar rank in Cumann na mBan.

He outlined the strategic importance of Blennerville especially regarding the war in west Kerry in 1920 and 1921.

Among the members of Cumann na mBan then in Blennerville were Nannette and her daughter, Annette Tyndale. Annette Tyndale was imprisoned during the troubled times.

Her grandfather, George Tyndale was a sea captain based in Blennerville and in August 1914 he and his brother-in-law, Matthew McSweeney were in Hamburg.

Annette and Aoife Kennedy with Martin Moore at the commemoration.

There they were detained at the outbreak of World War 1 and thus two Blennerville men were among the first detainees of the First World War. Roger Casement is supposed to have visited them.

Unfortunately, George Tyndale died in captivity. Martin also noted the link between Robert Emmet and Blennerville still preserved in the folklore of the district.

On the centenary of the gaining of Irish Independence it was fitting to read an excerpt from Emmet’s speech from the dock.

Family members of the activists from that time attended including members of the O’Shea, McCarthy, Tyndale and Foley families.

The roll of the Blennerville Volunteers was read by Michael O’Connor, with Helen Sugrue listing the members of Cumann na mBan.

A wreath was laid on behalf of the McCarthy family, daughter and nieces of Jack and Harry McCarthy. A poem, written by Jack McCarthy on those eventful times was read to conclude this beautiful ceremony.

New Walkway/Cycleway From Wetlands To Blennerville Being Examined

.
A possible walkway is is being examined for Tralee Bay Wetlands to Blennerville.

A NEW walkway from Tralee Bay Wetlands to Blennerville is currently being considered, councillors were told at the Tralee Municipal District meeting on Monday.

Fianna Fáil Cllr. Mikey Sheehy had a motion that that Council consider a greenway/cycleway/walkway linking the Wetlands to Blennerville alongside the railway tracks which could be the starting point for a Tralee to Dingle Greenway project.

In reply, he was told that the proposal of a a supplementary walking and cycling route from the Wetlands to Kearney’s Road and onto Blennerville is currently under consideration with the North Kerry Walks Committee and NEWKD.

.

The North Kerry Walks Committee are carrying out a feasibility study on the Tralee- Blennerville link.

However, Council management said a greenway extension beyond Blennerville to Dingle is a major project that will likely take many years to plan and develop and require substantial Government investment.

Mayor Johnnie Wall asked if there was any progress on getting the steam train back running again at Blennerville.

Tralee MD Manager, Michael Scannell, said they had made significant applications for funding to get the steam train up and running again and for upgrading of the Blennerville Windmill complex, but they had been unsuccessful thus far.

He said they would continue to make efforts to have some aspect of the train, steam or otherwise, running again and for investment in the Blennerville centre.

Blennerville Grotto Lit Up By Solar Power After Four Years In The Dark

IT’S taken a while, but the people of Blennerville have their Grotto lighting at night again this week after four years in the dark.

The Grotto has been there over 60 years after it was built adjacent to the old school. But when the school was demolished in January 2016, the Council also turned out the lights on the Virgin Mary, much to the chagrin of locals.

“Believe me, it came up a lot on the doorstep when I was canvassing around here for the local elections earlier this year…from both young and old,” said Cllr Terry O’Brien, when we met him at the Grotto on Thursday.

Continued below…

.

Cllr Terry O’Brien brought the issue up at a Tralee Municipal District meeting in the autumn and he used his own Councillors allocations to fund the new light.

Solar panels were installed by Monavalley-based Prodomo Ireland on the roof of the grotto and when it gets to a certain level of darkness, the LED light comes on, so it won’t be in the dark again.

Cllr Wants Something Done About Old Vacant Buildings In Blennerville

.
The Main Street in Blennerville.

A LOCAL councillor is worried that somebody is going to be injured or worse if something isn’t done about old properties on the main street in Blennerville village.

Speaking at the Tralee Municipal District meeting of councillors on Tuesday, Cllr Terry O’Brien asked that Kerry County Council look into setting up a task force in relation to Blennerville village.

He said there are two vacant, derelict old buildings which are boarded up and have become an eyesore. Cllr O’Brien said whenever there is windy weather or a storm, a piece of wood or a slate falls to the street and residents are afraid to walk on that side of the street now.

Continued below…

.

The councillor also said there are a few unused sites and lands there, which could be developed and that the village held so much potential.

Council management said they would make enquiries about the two buildings mentioned. They also said they would work with local businesses and property owners in relation to seeking improvements in the village.

Mayor of Tralee, Jim Finucane, said that an application for funding for the further development of the Blennerville Windmill and steam train had passed the first phase and they were hopeful that, if successful, this would establish Blennerville as a heritage destination. This investment could possibly amount to around €3m.

A further more detailed submission for phase 2 of the process is currently being prepared. If granted, it’s believed that would also be a catalyst for further funding from the private sector for further development.

Council Looks For Funding To Get Steam Train Running Again

.

KERRY County Council is to reapply for funding this spring to get the steam train at Blennerville up and running again.

Cllrs Norma Foley and Toireasa Ferris both asked for updates on the Council’s commitment to the project at Monday’s meeting of Tralee Municipal District.

A previous application to Fáilte Ireland for funding to restore the steam railway and upgrade Blennerville Windmill was unsuccessful back in 2016.

Continued below…

.

However, the Council has since met with Minister Brendan Griffin and Failte Ireland and have been invited to submit a revised application when the second phase of funding for large projects will be open in spring this year.

Councillors expressed the wish to see it up and running as soon as possible.

Here’s what the steam train used to look like back in 1993 when Michael Palin of Monty Python fame came to town to film part of his BBC series on ‘Great Railway Journeys’….

Blennerville School And Parents Introduce Ban On Smartphones Among Pupils

.

A LOCAL primary school has instigated a pilot programme with parents, where children will not use smartphones or social media applications for the remainder of the school year.

The programme is being run by St Brendan’s NS in Blennerville after it was discovered that some sixth class pupils had access to inappropriate material for their age on social media apps like Instagram and Snapchat.

This behaviour occurred outside of school, as use of smartphones is not permitted at the school. This came to the attention of staff at the school because this was affecting relationships between the students in the class and staff were concerned about their emotional well-being.

Continued below…

.

On Thursday night, a meeting of all staff, parents of 6th class children and the Board of Management took place in the school.

Parents were shocked at the type of content that was being available to the pupils and Principal of  Blennerville school, Terry O’Sullivan, said the parents would not have tolerated it if they had known it was going on.

A consensus was reached about the issue and it was decided that for an 11 week pilot programme children wouldn’t use smart phones or social media applications outside of school.

Principal Terry O’Sullivan said this is a major issue in all schools throughout the country and it’s something that needs to be addressed at national level sooner rather than later.

On the school’s Facebook page a post read: “Hopefully this pilot initiative will lead to more happier and healthier children over the next 11 weeks. Our vision over the next 12 months as a Board of Management is to engage in a process of consultation and discussion with all parents in the school with a view to bringing all parents on board with the ultimate aim of no smart phones or social media applications for any child attending our school.”

“The emotional well being of the children is a priority and we will endeavour to ensure this is protected for as long as they are attending our school.”

Blennerville School’s Cakesale Raises Funds For Kerry Hospice

THE schoolchildren in St Brendan’s NS Blennerville pulled out all the stops to raise funds for Kerry Hospice during the annual coffee morning fundraiser earlier this month.

Some of the classes baked cakes and all pupils brought in €2 each to buy the goodies. Later that afternoon the parents came in for coffee and cakes. The whole event was a massive success raising €1,105.

.

“We’re thrilled with it. The coffee morning is a big fundraiser for us and Maura Sullivan used to hold it in her house, but this year we approached the school and they were very helpful,” said Andrea O’Donoghue of Kerry Hospice.

Principal of the school, Terry O’Sullivan said the children really enjoyed helping out.

“We delighted to raise such a massive amount of money and it was great to get the community involved. Funds are so badly needed for the Kerry Hospice. Three classes actually baked so it was great hands-on involvement for them,” he said.

The Tony O’Donoghue Memorial Walk took place from St Pat’s GAA Club with families gathering just before noon in the sunshine.

All proceeds of the walk will go to the Palliative Care Unit /Kerry Hospice which benefitted to the tune of €2,000 last year from the event.

Afterwards there was a family fun day and the weather behaved (apart from the odd shower) so people could enjoy the day. Scroll down for photos…

IT’S been quite a week for children in and around town over the past three days.

It’s also a big day for parents and teachers who see the junior infants adapting to their new surroundings in school.

Forty-five pupils in CBS National School had their first day of school on Thursday.

“It has been fantastic,” said CBS Principal Denis Coleman “We’ve had a very quiet morning, everyone has settled in very well. A lot of them with have been in preschool here as well so it makes the transition into junior infants much easier,” he said.

The town’s only Irish language school, Gaelscoil Mhic Easmainn, was busy once more with a 45 new kids who will begin their school lives learning as gaeilge.

“We have a lot of siblings of pupils who have come to us and a lot of new families also,” said Gaelscoil Mhic Easmainn principal Cáit Uí Chonchúir.

“They’re all excited and delighted, there have been very few tears, I think most of tears came from the moms and dads out on the corridors!” said Cáit.

Out in St Brendan’s NS in Blennerville, the new school has itself 29 new arrivals.

“They’ve been absolutely fabulous,” said junior infant teacher, Edel O’Sullivan. “It was one of the easiest first days I’ve ever had, they’ve been excellent altogether, I can’t complain!” she said.

It was a similar story out in another St Brendan’s NS, this time in Fenit, as ten young pupils settled in for eight years of primary school education.  Scroll down for class photos and more…

THE final day at school in Blennerville was an active one on Thursday as a local man was remembered with a special event.

A basketball tournament final took place in the school hall in memory of Tony O’Donoghue, who died in 2014 from cancer. Tony was a fond friend of staff at the school and they decided to do something to honour him.

“Dad did a lot for the old school so Terry O’Sullivan, the principal decided to put on a basketball tournament  with a trophy in his memory,” said his daughter Andrea.

July 2 is the date set for the well known barge’s farewell according to its owner, Joe Goodfellow.

“The old girl is 111 years old now and needs some TLC,” said Joe. “As a final tribute to her, we intend to re-install the masts, rigging, and sails and bring her back to her former glory as a sailing clipper from years gone by,” said Joe.

“We are aiming for July 2 to sail her back to Galway to hopefully her final resting place,” he added.

Last year we reported the barge would leave that summer, but due to extensive repair work which had to be done to make it seaworthy, the window of time allocated to depart had closed.

“By the time we had her ready to leave, winter was fast approaching with very few safe sailing opportunities,” he said. “It is very difficult to get the right tide, fair weather, and crew all together at the same time. It’s a bit of a juggling act.  Anyway, hopefully the gods will be smiling and let us go on the July 2 high tide,” said Joe.

So then, there’ll be no more striking photographs of the barge in the foreground with the stunning backdrops of Tralee Bay and the Sliabh Mish mountains in the background.

THE Stationhouse Restaurant opened its doors this afternoon after months of work.

Nick Wang of Tomásín’s Bar and Restaurant in Stradbally and his business partner Jane Liu, were on hand to welcome customers to the restaurant in time for the lunchtime trade on Wednesday.

Around 15 people will be employed at the business which has been worked on for some time. The result is very impressive with a beautiful big dining room and cosy little alcoves in the bar/lounge area.

“It’s a big place so it took ages to get ready,” said Nick. “The local community has been very welcoming. We had a mini-opening last night so many people from the village were here, including people from the bars across the road.”

The bars should be happy, as many people frequenting The Station House when it was open a few years ago, called into Skelper Quane’s and Dwyer’s for their aperitifs and digestifs.

“I can see people calling in to the pubs before their meals here and then going back after, so it will work well for them too,” said Nick.

The restaurant plans to open for breakfast too, as well as lunch and dinner so it’s sure to be a hit in Blennerville and Tralee. Scroll down for photos…

INSTEAD of accepting 40th birthday gifts for himself, a well-known Blennerville man decided to help out a worthy charity.

Kieran O’Shea of O’Shea’s Gala Shop and Petrol Station in Blennerville, raised €1,200 for the Kerry based cystic fibrosis charity, Build 4 Life, by asking guests at his birthday bash to donate to the organisation instead.

Those attending dug deep at the party held in Benners Hotel last month.

“It’s a cause that is very close to my heart,” said Kieran O’Shea.

“I just thought that instead of getting presents and cards or whatever for myself I’d donate to cystic fibrosis. In fairness people were very generous as you can see from the money raised,” said Kieran.

After getting to know a woman who regularly came into O’Sheas shop and subsequently passed away because of cystic fibrosis, Kieran was moved to support the charity. He also has good friends and customers who live in the Blennerville area who suffer with the illness.

And it’s not the first time the staunch St Pats man raised money for Build 4 Life. Ten years ago, Kieran ran the Dublin City Marathon and donated  €6,000 to Build 4 Life. Fair play Kieran.

TRALEE’S Bryan Cooper and Philip Enright shared some of their tips for the Cheltenham festival last night at a ‘Preview’ fundraiser for Blennerville school.

Racing fans present in Skelper Quane’s in the village, heard expert tips from the top jockeys and other well-known figures from the racing world such as photographer Pat Healy, bookmaker Berkie Browne, Limerick Racecouse manager Conor O’Neill and MC for the evening, Murt Murphy.

They were asked for their fancies for the major races at the festival next week as Bryan Cooper is set to be a busy man riding for Gigginstown. He is one of the favourites to be leading jockey at the Cotswolds festival and was keeping his cards close to his chest on whether he’ll plump for Don Cossack or Don Poli in the Gold Cup.

The event managed to raise over €600 for the school while some of the lads’ tips might earn a lot more if the bets are placed right! Scroll down for photos…

A NEW Volunteer group is being set up to provide assistance prior to the arrival of the emergency services in the Blennerville to Derrymore area.

Blennerville Derrymore Community First Responders are looking for volunteers in the community so they can begin to train people how to deal with a medical emergency before an ambulance or emergency services arrive.

“These schemes have shown to benefit the community,” said Blennerville Derrymore First Responder, Rosalie Scanlon.

“When someone calls an ambulance those few minutes they are waiting can be vital, if someone can get there faster then all the better, because every minute counts,” said Rosalie who lives in Annagh.

The group are hoping to hold an information evening sometime in February to inform the community of what it’s all about. At the moment the focus is on creating awareness of the group to attract volunteers in the Blenerville area.

The information evening will not just be about attracting volunteers, but also letting the community know about the service and spreading the word.

“We will respond to four basic call-outs, the idea is that before we go live we will have done loads and loads of training so that people’s confidence is up,” Rosalie said.

“It’s all about community spirit and getting people involved. If there is only ten people involved, or 20 or more, at least that’s something that can benifit more than nothing. That’s our aim,” she continued.

The Blennerville Derrymore Community First Responders are expecting it will be between six and nine months before the life saving service is up and running.

IT’S being reported that The Station House in Blennerville is to reopen its doors next year.

The landmark Blennerville pub and restaurant has been closed for business since the beginning of 2013.

It is reported in Kerry’s Eye this morning that the businessman running Tomasíns in Castlegregory, Nick Wang, will take on the venture. When contacted by Traleetoday.ie, Mr Wang declined to comment on the reported reopening.

The deal is reportedly in its final stages with contracts as yet to be signed. If all goes according to plan the The Station House is due to reopen in the Spring.

Once a bustling business under the ownership of Lee Bradshaw, the pub fell on hard times during the financial crisis.

This is set to be a massive boost for Blennerville village which, in the past, reaped the benefits of having the once thriving pub and restaurant open.

U-12s:

St Pats un12’s had their last game of the year at home on Thursday  last and were defeated by a very strong Keel team . Everyone from the team performed very well and had a very tough battle against a very well balanced keel team! Some great defense by goalie Daniel Moriarty and his backs of Liam O’Sullivan, Matthew Quilter, Diarmuid Griffin, Michael Doody and Samuel Abubaker all playing with great heart ! Danny Greaney and Tomas O’Sullivan played at midfield and had their usual consistent game  and scored some good scores !our forwards of Cillian Lynch who gave off some good ball to create some scores and with tom Brett ,Aaron Murphy  ,Oisin Murray and Corey O’Shea all got plenty of ball! It was a very hard game against a strong keel team but all the team played with great heart until the very end . This was the last game of the year for the un12’s who had a fantastic year and played in Croke park a feat that a lot of players never get to do ! They have giving their supporters some great  days out. A huge thank you to the management team of mike lynch ,Dan o’ Sullivan and Raphael Crowley who looked after this very promising team all year and gave up their time to coach them! hopefully we will see these players in Croker again in the future .

U-14s:
Un14  St Pats 2/5 Ardfert 5-8
St pats took on Ardfert on Friday last in a home  fixture and it proved a very tough game but st pats all played very well against a very strong Ardfert team! Gavin Doody played very well in goals and could do nothing about the goals that went in ! The backs of Brian ,Martin,Paddy ,Jamie and Niall who were under extreme pressure throughout played very well with some great heart with Niall scoring a great goal . Ali and Cathal who were very consistent all year played their usual good game. Damien joined the forwards for a new roll and with the help of Patrick ,Cormac ,Nathan and James all tried very hard  and managed to score some hard earned scores! Danny, Tadgh and Michael came on in the second half and did their bit ! They all played very well against a well balanced Ardfert team and our forwards broke in for there goal chances but Ardfert goalie bought off some great saves! It was a great performance by St Pats and just came up against a stronger team.

U-16s:
Churchill were comprehensive winners in this away game for St Pats on Tuesday last. Some great individual performances  from st pats none more so then Joe quilter who was on fire scoring several  great scores . Sean Hogan along with the back a of Mike Cahill ,Damien Quirke, Ali Gardezi, Joe O’Connor and in particular  Eoin Murphy all defended with great heart and were under huge pressure for long spells  of the game .Shane Jordan and Patrick Dowling did their bit at mid field and spread the ball around well. The forwards of Gearoid Dillane ,James Friel, Fergal O’Brien ,Joe Quilter and Eoin Greaney all tried hard with Eoin ,Fergal and Joe accounting for much of St Pats scores .Jack Lynch ,Paddy Murphy Adam Boyle and Martin Savage all came on with Jack scoring 2 great goals.  St Pats were doing very well until the last few minutes when Churchill scored three quick goals so really the score doesn’t give a true reflection on how well at pats played on this occasion. So they can all hold their heads up high after this great team performance!

Credit Union County League Division 3 Round 10

St Pats 0-12    Beaufort  1-11

High flying Beaufort grabbed a dramatic victory in Blennerville on Saturday evening and also clinched promotion as Division 3 champions. Results elsewhere in the division now mean that no team can overtake them going into the final round of the league.

This game itself served up all the ingredients of an exciting encounter producing a period of early dominance, borderline tackling, great scores, a rousing comeback and a controversial refereeing decision that had a huge bearing on the result.

Beufort started the game in determined fashion and totally dominated the first quarter with their midfielders Ronan Murphy and Francis Courtney in complete control in this period. Beaufort opened the scoring after two minutes with a pointed 45 from Fergal Hallissey They easily added three more points from the boot of Ronan Murphy Francis Courtney (45) and Niall O’Connor before St Pats registered their first point from David O’Callaghan after fifteen minutes of play. Beaufort could easily have added more scores in this period such was their dominance but for some poor decision making on the ball and resolute defending from St Pats. St Pats received 3 yellow cards in this period (K Hurley, M O’Sullivan and B Poff) and were lucky to have a full complement of players still on the field

St Pats switched full back Paul Mc Mahon to midfield for the remaining of the game and introduced Jordan Conway for Conor Moore. They started to push up on the Beaufort kick outs and this had the desired effect. They were now enjoying a lot more possession but struggling to convert it to scores. Kieran Hurley did manage to reduce the margin on 17 minutes with a well taken point. There would be no score for another ten minutes even though St Pats had a glorious opportunity for a goal when Brendan Poff dispossessed Brendan Cronin from a short kick out only to see his shot come back off the cross bar and all Beaufort fans in the ground breathed a collective sigh of relief

Beaufort steadied the ship and added three further points in the last 5 minutes of the half from Liam Carey,Niall O’Connor and Fergal Hallissey to leave the half time score St Pats 0-02 Beaufort 0-08

The half time pep talk seemed to work wonders for St Pats as they came out with all guns blazing. Andy Byrne and Kevin O’Shea were now leading the way and exerting more pressure from the half back line, St Pats were now collecting a lot more ball around the middle. Andy lead the way with an early point , Kieran Hurley(2) and a David O’Callaghan point reduced the margin to two before Beaufort recorded their first score of the half a free from Fergal Hallissey. Beaufort reverted back to short kick outs and this put them in all kinds of bother. St Pats benefited with two further Kieran Hurley Points to leave the narrowest of margins between the sides heading into the final quarter St Pats 0-08 Beaufort 0-09

What a dramatic fifteen minutes of football this quarter turned out to be. The first incident took place when impressive Beaufort centre back Nathan Breen was given a second yellow and a red card for elbowing an opponent. This was followed up on the 23 minute of the half by the decision that decided the outcome. St Pats Goalkeeper John ‘’Fizzy’’ Fitzgerald was attempting to take a quick kick out and threw the ball on the ground as the ball was still rolling when Fitzgerald kicked it out the referee stopped play and awarded a throw ball from the twenty metre line. Beaufort’s Francis Courtney won the throw in and blasted it to the St Pats net to put four between the sides

Urged on by the home supporters and a feeling of injustice St Pats drove at Beaufort in waves. The game was interrupted for five minutes as St Pats Liam O’Sullivan was treated for a shoulder injury. Kieran Hurley reduced the deficit with a point only for Fergal Hallissey to it out with a Beaufort point. As the game headed into injury time St Pats were rampant kicking three unanswered points from Andy Byrne, David O’Callaghan and Mike O’Sullivan to leave a the bare minimum between the side after 4 minutes of injury time. The referee indicated that there was a further minute to play St Pats gathered possession and attacked Mike O’Sullivan went for broke only for his shot to narrowly sail wide Beaufort won the kick out and substitute Mike Breen kicked the last score of the game to leave the full time score St Pats 0-12 Beaufort 1-11

A pulsating end to an exciting encounter. The game could have gone either way heading into the last five minutes with referee  Andy Brown making a big call for the rolling ball incident  A draw would probably have been a fitting result but wasn’t to be

The game just about sums up St Pats season to date. Brilliant in patches, over run for periods with lapses in concentration proving costly. St Pats needed to win this one to have any hope of promotion.

Beaufort were a jackal and Hyde outfit on the day. They started in whirlwind fashion but didn’t convert possession into scores. For reasons best known to themselves they resorted to short kick outs that weren’t working and conceded a number of scores that could have proved costly.

Beaufort had strong performances from Nathan Breen (until the red mist descended) Ronan Murphy, Francis Courtney ,Liam Carey, Darragh Coffey and Fergal Hallissey

St Pat’s best performers were Kieran O’Dwyer, Kevin O’Shea, Paul Mc Mahon, David O’Callaghan, Kieran Hurley and man of the match Andy Byrne

Juvenile Academy:

Last Sunday saw huge numbers at our academy. Our latest recruit, Ben Deegan of Curraheen got a great St Pats welcome and displayed great pedigree as his father Gerard and uncles Gregory & Conor played for their native Co Down in the nineties winning All Ireland medals. Lean ar aghaidh Ben.

Under 12’s:

Our u12’s had a busy week of football last week playing at home to Desmond’s on Monday evening and away to Cromane on Saturday .

St.Pats 4-9 Castleisland Desmond’s 5-14

Once again we started off great with Tomas o Sullivan winning the throw in. After a great run by Cillian lynch and giving a short pass to Danny Greaney we were unlucky not to score when Danny hit the crossbar. Samuel Abubaker won possession in midfield and kicked a lovely ball into Tomas who popped it over the bar. Our backs Matthew Quilter, Michael Doody, Liam O’Sullivan and Danny Greaney were on top of there game defending very well. It was point for point in this half with Danny scoring a point after receiving another great ball from Cillian. Tomas scored another 2 points but Desmond’s responded with a goal. Nathan made a great save in goals and passed to Samuel who was cleaning up in midfield along with his partner Tomas. Aaron Murphy who just made his entrance onto the field caught a lovely ball, passed it to Danny and Danny planted the ball into the back of the net. However Desmond’s scored 2 goals in succession just before the final whistle. Half time score St.Pats 1-4 Desmond’s 3-4.
Desmond’s opened the score line in the second half with a goal. Tomas responded with a point. After a great save from Nathan once again and a great clearance from Liam o Sullivan the ball was worked well into our forwards Oisin Tobin ,Cillian lynch, Sean Crowley and Colin Doody. Sean Crowley made a great interception and gave Colin Doody the opportunity to rattle the net. Both teams took advantage of their scoring opportunities with Danny scoring a further 1-3 and Aaron Murphy scored a soccer style goal but Desmond’s had a lot more possession. Matthew quilter made a great block and passed the ball to Michael Doody. Oisin Tobin read the ball well and passed it to Corey O Shea who gave a lovely ball to Diarmuid Griffin but we were unfortunate not to score before the final whistle. Final score St.Pats 4-9 Desmond’s 5-14

On Saturday evening the team was outplayed by a strong Cromane side. We managed 2 points from Aaron Murphy and one point from Tomas O’Sullivan in the first half. Our solitary second half score was a goal by Dylan Griffin. Hopefully there won’t be too many more birthdays between now and the end of season!

Division 3 County League Round 3 Back Game Sunday 30/08/2015

St Pats Blennerville 0-05 An Ghaeltacht 1-17

This Round 3 back game played in Blennerville on Sunday turned out to be a very one sided affair with An Ghaeltacht dominating proceedings from start to finish. St Pats were struggling all over the pitch and indeed An Ghaeltacht could have won by much more but for some excellent saves from St Pat’s keeper John Fitzgerald. An Ghaeltacht opened their account after 3 minutes with a point from Dara O Sè, They followed up with scores from PJ Mac Lamh and 2 from the excellent corner forward Sean O’ Conchur. O’Conchur was unlucky not to have goaled when his shot came back of the crossbar in the twelfth minute. It took St Pats all of 13 minutes to register their first score a point from Brendan Poff but this had no real effect on proceedings as An Ghaeltacht were rampant at this point, Andy Byrne being the only St Pats player offering any resistance. An Ghaeltacht notched 5 further points in the half with St Pats only other score coming from the booth of David O’Callaghan. Sean O’Conchur was unlucky not to have goaled in the last minute of the half when John Fitzgerald pulled of a brilliant save in the St Pats goal. Half time score St Pats 0-02 An Ghaeltacht 0-09
St Pats juggled things around for the start of the second half making a number of positional switches and introduced Michael O’Sullivan to midfield but it was An Ghaeltacht who continued to dominate the proceeding. An Ghaeltacht scored 5 points in the first quarter of the half with St Pats only managing one solitary point. Indeed St Pats were lucky not to have shipped two goals in this period when John Fitzgerald pulled off two top class saves. As the game entered the final quarter it was only just a matter of how much An Ghaeltacht would win this one by. An Ghaeltacht did goal in the final five minutes of the game when wing back PJ Mac Lamh slipped in for a well taken goal.

An Ghaeltacht were convincing winners and had star performances all over the pitch, they were fitter more organised, determined and fully deserved to win this one. This is a very young An Ghaeltacht team that we will see a lot more off in the coming years
St Pats will want to forget this one in a hurry with John Fitzgerald and Andy Byrne the only players to give any resistance
Man of the match could have gone to any number of An Ghaeltacht players but corner forward Sean O’Conchur was on fire scoring 0-04 and setting up many more scores he could easily have added 2 goals to his tally

U14s:
The u14s returned to football Monday last after the heroics of last weekend, They played castle in windy and wet conditions in an away game and st pats proved too strong for this castle team who showed great heart and the score line did not reflect how good they played. ,St pats had great performances from all the team and the subs who came on ,it took a while to get going after last weekend but when they did they showed great passages of play. David played very well in goals and cleared the ball well always finding one of st pats man,Our backs played very well throughout with Ciaran having a very good game soaking up ball after ball. Paddy and Damien defended great as always with Damien showing great strength in all his tackles ,Bryan and martin cleared ball after ball and linked very well with the forwards ,giving off some great passes.Cathal as always played very well and was assisted with some great play from ali who both stood tall and did very well around the middle of the field. Cormac and dara were our two wing forwards on the night and got in to some good positions and won some great ball which set up scores for Patrick ,Thomas and Fergal who kicked some great scores both from long distance and short .These boys kicked some great scores and showed some great link play between the forwards and the backs . Naill and James filled the forward line ,Niall got a lot of ball and showed great heart while James in full forward scored a goal and caused hardship for the castle backs through out .Patrick ,Fergal and Thomas did the majority of the scoring but all the scores were down to the hard work all around the field by their team mates .The team showed some great spells of football but on the night were just too strong for castle who tried very hard through out the game .Nathan ,Michael ,thagh and Samual all came on and played very well contributing some great ball and giving off some great passes . All in all it was a great performance by all who played and good to get back to wining ways,
castle 3-2

Juniors:
St. Pat’s B team won the County Junior Football League Div 6 final when they defeated Castlegregory in Lispole on Friday last. Castle got off to a great start and had 1-1 on the board by the 5th minute. St Pat’s settled down and playing with the wind and with direct football they took the game to Castle. Sean Hayes and Liam Poff took control at midfield and with Gary Lar Savage and James Costello they fed the attack with some combined play with the other forwards. St Pat’s had the lead wiped out at the end of the first quarter with Gary Savage 2 pts, Sean Hayes a pointed free and David Kerins got in on the act with 3 excellent points from play. St. Pat’s then found the Castle when Breandan Savage was at the end of a long ball. Castle replied with 2 points but they were hit with a second goal on the stroke of half time when Brendan Boyle hit home. Half time score St Pat’s 2-9, Castle 1-3.
Playing with the wind Castle tried everything to get back into the game but St. Pat’s defended stoutly with Conor Moore and keeper Fizzy to the fore Castle registered just 1 point in ten minutes. Gary Savage kicked two long range frees and wing back Kieran Dwyer popped over an excellent point from play. Fizzy then made an excellent save to deny Castle a goal. At this stage James Costello and Liam Poff were giving great leadership to the younger players. When Breandan Savage got his second goal this game was over with ten minutes to go. Castle were restricted to 3 points in the second half but they met a St. Pat’s team who hit top form on the night. Well done to manager Tim Moynihan and selector Paddy Joe O Shea. County Board Treasurer Weeshie Lynch presented the Shield to Captain Sean Hayes.
