Dingle Lit Announces Line-Up For Festival In November

DINGLE Lit Festival, the annual celebration of literature, has unveiled its 2024 edition.

Scheduled to take place from Friday, November 15th to Sunday, November 17th, this year’s festival promises a compelling literary experience that will inspire and engage attendees of all ages.

This year’s festival will offer a diverse range of events in English and Irish, including author readings, panel discussions, and workshops tailored for all ages.

The 2024 festival will feature an lineup of established guests, including Roddy Doyle, Oliver Jeffers, Donal Ryan, Diarmaid Ferriter,  Róise Ní Bhaoill,  Muireann Ní Chíobháin, Oein deBairduin, and Natalie Ní Chasaide, Peadar Ó Riada, Cecelia Ahern, Barbara Scully, Ann Marie Flanagan and Felicity Hayes McCoy.

Dingle Lit Festival 2024 will also showcase the winners of the Dingle Lit Short Story Competition. The competition was open for short story writers to submit work in Irish or English. The winning authors will be reading out from their work in The Green Room.

The festival will feature two unique events dedicated to translated fiction, supported by the European Prize for Literature, an annual initiative to recognise the best emerging fiction writers in Europe.

Dingle Lit will showcase three leading poets from The Gallery Press, Ireland’s premier publisher of contemporary poetry and drama.

On Sunday, November 17th, “Poetry in Motion”, will feature a scenic bus trip from Dingle to Krugers Pub, hosted by Emer Fallon. The event, includes a coffee stop and offers a distinctive blend of poetry and sight-seeing.

An Evening With Acclaimed Author Colm Tóibín At The Blasket Centre

DINGLE Literary Festival has announced a special event for Saturday July 20, at The Blasket Centre.

Dingle Lit will host an evening with acclaimed author Colm Tóibín to celebrate the launch of his latest book, ‘Long Island’. Broadcaster and musician, Philip King, will engage in conversation with Colm Tóibín at The Blasket Centre from 7pm.

Following the success of ‘Brooklyn’, which was adapted into a film, ‘Long Island’ continues the story of protagonist Eilis Lacey. Released last month, ‘Long Island’ has already garnered praise from critics, hailed as a “masterclass” in storytelling for its subtlety, intelligence, and emotional depth.

Colm Tóibín has garnered international acclaim for his storytelling. His acclaimed bibliography also includes ‘The Blackwater Lightship’ which was shortlisted for the Booker Prize, as well as ‘The Magician’, ‘The Master’, and ‘Nora Webster’ amongst others.

Limited seating is available for this event and tickets are expected to sell swiftly. Tickets are now available for purchase at the Dingle Bookshop, any remaining tickets will be accessible for online purchase from June 14. Acclaimed Authors Lined Up For Dingle Lit Festival

DINGLE Lit Festival, the annual celebration of literature set against the stunning backdrop of the Dingle Peninsula, has revealed its lineup of acclaimed authors for its 2023 edition.

The line-up includes Booker Prize winner Anne Enright, Man Booker Prize winner John Banville and author and filmmaker Neil Jordan among many others (see below). 

This year, the festival will take place from Friday 17th to Sunday 19th November. Full information is now available on the official website www.dinglelit.ie, where one can also purchase day/weekend passes, individual tickets for the author events, and sign up for specialised literary workshops.

Acclaimed authors in this year’s festival include:

• Anne Enright: Booker Prize-winning novelist
• Kevin Barry: Recipient of the 2013 International Dublin Literary Award
• Jan Carson: Winner of the European Prize for Literature for Ireland 2019
• Chandrika Narayanan-Mohan: One of Ireland’s leading poets
• Martin Doyle: Literary Editor of the Irish Times
• Mark Moriarty: An award-winning chef, TV host and cookbook author
• John Banville: Banville’s contributions to Irish and international literature include his novel ‘The Sea’ which won the Man Booker Prize in 2005
• Neil Jordan: Acclaimed Irish author and film director, who won an Oscar for his work on the script of ‘The Crying Game.’

These accomplished authors together with many others, representing a diverse array of genres and perspectives, promise to bring their unique voices to the festival, sparking discussions, inspiring innovation, and captivating audiences with their stories.

Other authors participating during the weekend literary festival include: Nicole Flattery, Adiba Jaigirdar, Katie O’Donoghue, Victoria Kennefick, Chandrika Narayanan Mohan, Katriona O’Sullivan, Claire Kilroy, Sophie White, Karl Geary, Colin Walsh, Richie Piggott, Mike McCormack, Soula Emmanuel, Michael Magee, Richie Piggott, Cathal Póirteir, Patrick McCabe, Noel O’Regan, Tristan Rosenstock, Suad Aldarra, Deirdre Lundy, Chris Fitzpatrick, Mary O’Donnell, Emer Fallon, Grainne O’Brien and Máiría Cahill.

The festival features an acclaimed lineup of authors for Irish literary events including Róisín Nic an tSíthigh, Éilís Ní Dhuibhne, Nuala Ní Dhomhnaill, Beo ar Éigean, Celia de Fréine, and Dáithí de Mórdha. In addition, Irish journalist Sineád Ní Ullacháin will join Nadia Dobriansky in a bilingual morning of fun Gaeilge/Ukranian in collaboration with Tuismitheoirí na Gaeltachta.

The Irish language events will be officially launched on Monday 25th September when full details will be available on www.dinglelit.ie.

Dingle Lit 2023 is doubling the number of events for children over the weekend. With storytelling sessions and activities on Saturday and Sunday it is expected that over 160 children will attend the festival.

Dingle Lit Festival 2023 is hosted with the support of RTÉ Supporting the Arts and the Arts Council, together with the Kerry County Council, Ealaín na Gaeltachta and Dingle Distillery.
