ONE of the most popular family festive events, the Tralee 5km Santa Fun Run, is back again this year for the 10th anniversary since the first one.
As always, the Tralee Bay Wetlands will be a sea of red and white on Sunday, December 10, at 11am as everyone is encouraged to dress up in festive regalia to run, walk or cycle the 5k.
Since it started, around €65,000 has been raised for various charities and the event has grown into a festive tradition for families. This year it is being held in aid of the Kerry Parents and Friends.

The charity event was founded by Martin and Deirdre Moore in 2013 in memory of their daughter Fiona, who was just 16 when she passed away in May of that year from Pulmonary Hypertension, while waiting on a lung transplant.

THE Tralee Bay Wetlands had a lot going on for a Sunday morning.
As well as a Christmas Craft Fair, the annual Tralee Santa 5k Fun Run, postponed for the past two years, was held from 11am.
Around 300 people had registered for the event and many made the effort by dressing up in Santa, elves and snowman suits.

The weather stayed dry as they headed off on the route just some time after 11am and it was a hugely enjoyable morning.

IT was a cold morning but spirits were high yet again for the eighth Santa 5k Run on Sunday where hundreds of people set off from the Wetlands.
This year the charity to benefit was the Jack and Jill Foundation and it was clear that thousands of euro would be raised thanks to the large crowd present.
Nearly everyone made a great effort in dressing in festive attires with elves, Santas and reindeers taking on the route before coming back for refreshments in the Wetlands with all receiving a special medal for their efforts.
Another successful Santa 5k then, which is organised annually in memory of Fiona Moore, of Caherslee who passed away in 2013 and raises much needed funds for deserving children’s charities. Scroll down for photos…

Taking place on Sunday, December 15 at 11am, this year’s beneficiary will be the Jack and Jill Foundation.
“We just hope the weather will be kind and that the people of Tralee and beyond to come out in force again. It’s such a colourful occasion for Tralee during the festive period,” said Martin Moore.
Participants will also receive a specially created medal this year of Santa running in front of Blennerville Windmill wearing pink boots.
“Fiona was very fond of her style and her pink boots were a big fashion statement,” said Martin who has taken her pink boots on his travels when taking part in walking or running events.
AS we brought you earlier (click here if you missed it), the annual Tralee Santa 5k Fun Run was another great success despite the bad weather yesterday morning.
Hundreds took to the road from the Tralee Bay Wetlands just after 11am with many dressed in their Santa hats and Christmas jumpers in the fundraiser for the Cashel Ward at UHK. Here’s the rest of our photos from the day…
The annual Tralee Santa 5k Fun Run went ahead on Sunday morning and fair play to the hundreds who turned out to raise much needed funds for the children’s ward at University Hospital Kerry.
It was a sea of red too as participants made a great effort to dress up in festive gear, which lifted the mood on a cold and showery morning.
Over 500 registered for the run and organisers thanked everyone who showed up making for a fun morning at Tralee Bay Wetlands.
Each year the run is held in memory of Fiona Moore who passed away at the age of 16 in May 2013 from Pulmonary Hypertension, while waiting on a lung transplant.
Previous beneficiaries of the run were Make-a –Wish, Heart Children Ireland, Barretstown and Ronald McDonald House and just under €40,000 has been collected for these charities. AROUND 800 people registered for the fourth Tralee 5km Santa Fun Run in December and the cheque for the amount raised from the event was presented recently in Barretstown.
The race is run annually in memory of Fiona Moore who died at the age of 16 in May 2013 from Pulmonary Hypertension, while waiting on a lung transplant.
Her mother Deirdre was joined by Mags O’Regan in presenting the €7,500 at Barretstown Castle where the service offers camps for rebuilding lives affected by childhood illness.
To date the Tralee 5km Santa fun run has raised well over €35,000 for charities so well done to all who took part and roll on next year.
THE Santa 5k Fun Run which was in Tralee in December helped to raise an amazing €8,600 for the Ronald McDonald House Charities Ireland.
Close to 1,000 runners, many dressed as Santas and their elves, braved the elements on December 14 in aid of the charity. (See video and photos here)

The cheque was presented to the Charity recently by Fiona’s mother, Deirdre Moore and one of the organisers Mags O’Regan Quillinan.
“We’d like to thank the people of Kerry who raised the funds. There was great support from the public for the event,” said Mags O’Regan Quillinan.
The mission of The Ronald McDonald House Charities Ireland (RMHC) Ireland, is to provide a Ronald McDonald House in order to support families whose children are seriously ill in hospital.
The Ronald McDonald House provides accommodation and a caring and supportive environment for families whose children are seriously ill and are hospitalised or undergoing medical treatment at Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital, Crumlin, Dublin 12.
The Ronald McDonald House Charity took to Facebook to express their obvious delight and thanks at the huge donation.
