Good Luck to Tralee Magic and Ireland forward Joshua Osayanrhion as he arrived in North Macedonia with his Ireland U18 team mates ahead of their FIBA U18 Men’s Youth EuroBasket campaign.
Their opening game against the host team was a tough one. They went down in a hard fought battle, where the final score of 56 – 71 did not reflect the truth of the game.
Joshua had an outstanding individual game scoring 15 points (55.6% of FG), 6 rebounds, 1 assist and 3 turnovers in just 27.55 minutes.
Beginners Camp
Our very first beginners camp took place this week. It was great to see so many kids enjoying basketball for the first time. They had so much fun learning the fundamentals of this team sport that we all love, that more than a few parents said they were “buzzing” to start academy…a success by anyone’s standards! Well done and thank you to all involved.

Gurranabraher Credit Union Brunell vs. Tralee Magic
On the 6th of January Tralee Magic U18 Girls team will travel to Corks Parochial Hall, one of Irelands most iconic basketball venues, to meet Gurranabraher Credit Union Brunell in the home court.
The stage is set for an intense battle in the U18 Women’s National Cup 2023-24 semi-finals.
Both teams come into this match with impressive records, having won incredibly tough previous games in the competition. Both teams enter this semi-finals clash with confidence, having won their last matches.
Gurranabraher Credit Union Brunell emerged victorious against Kilkenny Stars with a convincing 77-53 scoreline, while Tralee Magic overcame Flomax Liffey Celtics in a close encounter, winning 60-57.
Gurranabraher Credit Union Brunell has been dominant in the group stage, scoring an average of 77 points per game while conceding only 53 points.
Their offense has been firing on all cylinders, with seventeen 2-point shots and eleven 3-point shots made per game. However their free throw scoring only hits 47.6% and could be an area of improvement.
The standout performers for Gurranabraher Credit Union Brunell have been Mia Lynch,, who scores in their last cup game included five 3 pointers, and Abbie Lyons, who have been consistent in scoring and making significant contributions to their team’s success.
On the other hand, Tralee Magic has also been in fine form, scoring an average of 60 points per game and conceding 57 points.
Their strength lies in their ability to move the ball quickly and convert 2-point shots, with an impressive 21 shots made per game. However their 3-point shooting could be a concern, having made only 3 shots per game.
The free throw percentage of 75% showcases their efficiency from the line. Holly O’Brien who scored an impressive 23 points in their last cup game, and Capped Irish International Lucy O’Connor have been the key players for Tralee Magic, displaying their scoring prowess and making crucial contributions to their team’s victories.
In this highly anticipated matchup, Gurranabraher Credit Union Brunell’s offensive firepower will be a significant advantage, but Tralee Magic’s strong defense and efficient 2-point shooting cannot be underestimated.
The key to victory for Gurranabraher Credit Union Brunell will be their ability to maintain their scoring momentum, but they are up against Tralee Magic’s proven intensive defense which should limit Gurranabraher Credit Union Brunells scoring opportunities.
The unquantifiable influence of an enthusiastic home crowd could be the difference in this game.
With three Tralee team’s competing in 3 different national cups on the same weekend in Cork, we would encourage the notoriously loyal Kerry basketball community will travel Cork to drown out the notoriously vocal Cork support.
Get ready for an exhilarating contest as these two talented teams battle it out for a spot in the U18 Women’s National Cup.
This week got off to a great start. Our coach’s commitment to continuing to ensure Tralee Maguc remains a modern club, relevant to world our kids live in, was reaffirmed by the full attendance and engagement at a workshop by Dr. Rachel Sheehan.
This was the first of a series of workshops by Dr.Sheehan organised by the club about the science behind coaching kids, how to help them grow, and which tools we can use to help foster that growth.
Dr Sheehan has played underage basketball at every level for Ireland, played superleague and played professionally in Europe, so to say she has a unique view on our own sport would be putting it mildly.
Our U16 Girls Trials ate now complete and teams will be finalised this week!
There will be 3 days of trials for our U14 Gitls teams. Girls born 2010 AND 2011 from any part of Tralee and the surrounding areas are welcome to attend. Please take note of venues

Last, but not by not means least, we are so proud of Tralee Magic Player Holly O’Brien. Holly started in our academy at age 6 and last weekend she played for the Ireland U17 girls team in Belfast! Well done Holly!
As our club continues to grow and be successful, we will need more volunteers. Tralee Magic Basketball Team is run entirely by volunteers.
This year we are appealing to parents to volunteer with their child’s basketball team, from Academy all the way to the senior teams…not just coaches, to put out cones, to help organise teams, to help with some of the games…no Basketball experience needed!
Please speak to your childs coach at training if you can help out in any way, or email traleemagicbc@gmail.com
Please keep an eye on our social media pages for up to date info on training days, trials and ckub news. It is best to download the ClubZap app for everything relating to your childs team.

As always, our Academy coaches will be a mixture of older club players, our favourite Tralee Warrior Super league players…and top secret new signings! Players from any part of Tralee town and the surrounding areas are welcome.

We look forward to welcoming back our Tralee Magic underage members! Our 2022/2023 season was a very successful one for the club.
We had both boys and girls teams successfully compete at local and national level. We are planning to continue and build on that success this year.
There is very exciting developments underway for ladies basketball at Tralee Magic. We are almost ready for an announcement…watch this space.

Although we are in the off season, Tralee Magic player are still very active. Congratulations to U14 Tralee Magic Players Abbie Crowley, Sophie Mitchell, and Evie O’Sullivan who won the Girls Eyre Square 3×3 competition in july, along with Gracie O’Sullivan of the Ballybunion Wildcats. Well done girls! A great achievement!
Tralee Magic Player Aivaras Uosis captained his U18 Ireland Mens team in the European championships.
While the team results where not what we had hoped for, Aivaras gave a characteristically impressive personal performance.
He ground out an average of 14.7 points, 4.4 rebounds and 3 assists per game! Well done Aivaras! There are surely great things ahead for you in basketball!
Aivaras had the company of fellow Tralee Magic team mate Joshua Osayanrhion in the European championship.
Joshua contributed a very respectable average of 3 points, 3 rebounds, and 1.1 assists per game. We are all so proud of the player Joshua is becoming!
We are also delighted to announce that last year’s main club sponsors will continue their sponsorship of the club this year. Thank you to Lee Strand and Sandy Feet Farm for your support.
After twenty years as Tralee Imperials, the decision was made at our AGM to change the club’s name to TRALEE MAGIC BC.
The Tralee Imperials name has been synonymous with girls basketball, and past success in both the National Cup and National League. In 2021 we welcomed boys to Imperials and the club continues to grow from strength to strength.
Members of our club have gone on to win the Superleague and National Cup with Tralee Warriors, represent the county and country in tournaments and includes recipients of college scholarships stateside.
The new name of Tralee Magi provides plenty of sponsorship opportunities which we rely on to support the running of a successful club.
We would like to thank everyone who has helped to build our club over the last twenty years and we are excited to move forward as Tralee Magic BC
– John Dowling, Chairperson
3×3
Tralee Magic BC had its first outing whereby we were represented in the Basketball Ireland 3×3 event in Limerick. Anna Chute, Ciara Costello and Sophie Mitchell were runners up to Cobh in the U14 girl’s competition. They were coached by Jason Mitchell. Well done on a great performance.
INTERNATIONAL SUCCESS
Ireland U16 Men were in action recently in Luxembourg at the Dussman Trophy. They played three games, with a win over hosts Luxembourg, a 6-point loss to Portugal and a 13-point loss to tournament winners, Romania. The town of Tralee was well represented on the team, with Joshua Osayanrhion powerful under the boards and Tralee Magic player Tomas Kennedy impressing, averaging 8 points a game. Following on from the tournament Ireland U16 men’s head coach Pat Price named Joshua and Tomas on his final 12 for the Fiba European Championships in August. Congratulations to Tomas who has also been nominated as vice-captain. Tralee’s representation doesn’t stop on the court, with our very own Jimmy Diggins part of the coaching staff.
Ireland U18 Men have completed their preparations for the FIBA U18 Men’s European Championship. The team were in Portugal playing games against the host nation and Switzerland. Tralee Magic player Aivaras Uosis has been named on Paul Kelleher’s squad that have travelled to Romania and you can follow the links on our social media channels to watch the games live.
Ireland U20 Men were in Georgia at the FIBA U20 Men’s European Championship. Rap Buivydas and Tralee Magic’s Leeroy Odiahi were part of the team. The team had some incredible performances winning 5 out of their 6 gams finishing up in an overall position of 9th. They were a very exciting team to watch and no doubt have very bright futures.
