TENANTS at a new local authority housing estate in Ardfert are to be issued with their keys shortly after Irish Water completed the water connection after months of a delay.

Sinn Féin Cllr Deirdre Ferris welcomed the news from the Tralee MD housing department at this morning’s special meeting of councillors, that the connection has been completed at Lathair na hÁrd Éaglaise in Ardfert.

“This morning at the Tralee Municipal District meeting, it was announced that the water connection to the new Local Authority development in Ardfert Village has been completed by Irish Water,” said Cllr Ferris, who had also raised the issue at last week’s July meeting of Tralee MD councillors.

“Delays by Irish Water to complete the connection has meant that tenants have been waiting since February to receive the keys to their new homes.

“This is great news for the new tenants and for Ardfert. They can now make plans to enroll their children in school and organise school transport. The delays led to much uncertainty and this news is very welcome. Kerry County Council actively petitioned for this connection to be done and finally we are seeing progress,” concluded Cllr Ferris.
