DINGLE Film Festival is back for a fourth year, taking place in venues across Dingle from November 13th – 15th and it boasts a diverse programme of Irish, Irish-language and international documentary, feature and short films.
It also includes some great talks and two Tralee natives will feature as guests over the weekend. ‘The Road to Hollywood: In Conversation with Actor Timothy V. Murphy’ will take place on Saturday, November 14, from 11.30am – 1pm in the Dingle Skellig Hotel.
RTÉ presenter Seán Mac an tSíthigh will sit down with LA-based Tralee native Murphy (National Treasure, American Siege, Sons of Anarchy, The Lone Ranger, True Detective). Another Tralee native, Ailbhe Keogan, whose recent writing on ‘Trespasses’ has seen her win IFTA and Zebbie Awards, will sit down with award-winning filmmaker and director Maurice Sweeney as they explore the crucial relationship between scriptwriter and director in ‘The Director and Scriptwriter Relationship’ on Sunday, November 15, 12-1pm in Dingle Skellig Hotel, and offer insights into how to get your idea from page to screen.
It’s part of Dingle Film Festival’d programme of masterclasses, talks and workshops with internationally renowned guests in the Masters’ Zone of the festival, where emerging and established actors and filmmakers get behind-the-scenes access to industry experts to finetune their craft.
Another highlight on Friday, November 13 at 2-5pm in the Dingle Skellig Hotel, is an interactive scriptwriting challenge with award-winning playwright and scriptwriter Fiona Doyle of West End School of Arts, founded by Michael Fassbender.
Focused on the importance of structure and aimed at aspiring playwrights and screenwriters, participants will be challenged to write a three-minute script which will be read by actors at a table reading on Sunday to a live audience and panel of renowned scriptwriters including Fiona and Ailbhe Keogan who will give feedback.
On Saturday at 2pm in Dingle Skellig Hotel, writer of the opening film ‘Everybody Digs Bill Evans’, Mark O’Halloran will share insights from his successful 30+ year career – from Adam & Paul to Garage – and offer plenty of practical creative and career advice for actors and writers: defining your creative identity, getting your work made, and collaborating with directors and other writers.
There are also opportunities to connect and collaborate in the Dingle Skellig Hotel over the weekend as the Kerry Media Network Meet-up in association with Kerry College invite attendees on Saturday at 1pm to meet and network, whether you’re an “above the line” or “below the line” professional or just trying to get started, while on Sunday at 1pm Connect Dingle fellow filmmakers and creatives at this informal event, a brilliant opportunity to meet and engage with people working in the film industry and creative fields, to share your insights, to find project collaborators and to pitch ideas.
