BILLY DENNEHY came in from the cold on Leeside on Friday night when he returned for Cork City, bagging a goal on his return from a six week absence due to a squabble with City boss John Caulfield and teammate Mark O’Sullivan (see video below).
Following a meeting with the manager, Dennehy made his unexpected return on Friday night when Cork City defeated St Pats 4-0 in Turner Cross.
The former Dynamos man was given his marching orders from the club after a tiff with teammate Mark McCarthy, during the side’s first round Europa League qualifier against KR of Iceland at the beginning of July.
The incident has split many Cork City fans with many preferring to see Dennehy, farmed out to another League of Ireland club. The player who was once on the books at Sunderland, was linked strongly with a move to Limerick City, but missed the deadline day.
Cork City are placed second in the league, 10 points behind defending champions Dundalk.
In Dennehy’s absence, Cork City’s form has been erratic. The win against St Pats comes on the back of defeats, to Shamrock Rovers and Limerick, which put a real dent in side’s premier ambitions.
With the Kerry man, back on side with his manager and teammates, they could put in a push for the title yet.
