THE rain stayed away as over 500 runners took part in the second annual Valentine’s Run on Sunday morning from Tralee Wetlands.
Serious athletes and fun runners set off at 10am with some choosing a love theme to their running gear adding colour to the event which is organised by Run The Kingdom.
The women’s race was won for the second year running by Anna Meria Costelloe in a time of 01:04:37, followed by Caitriona Barry in 2nd place in a time of 01:08:06 and the Sharon Cahill in third in a time of 01:09:25.
The men’s race was won by Donal O’Callaghan of An Riocht AC with a time of 00:55:27, Michael O Regan who has dominated recent RTK events came a close second in a time of 00:55:50 while Declan Power completed the top places with a third place finish in a time 00:56:06.
Tommy Horan defended his title in the 55-59 age group and Anne Kelliher kept up her top placings in the 40-44 age group following on from attaining first in the 40-44 age group in the Kerins O’Rahilly’s 10k race two weeks ago.
It sets things up nicely for the big one in less than a month’s time for the Tralee International Marathon.
