THE Tralee Food Festival begins today and there’s loads to do in venues around Tralee.
The good news is last night’s rain will clear this morning for a predominantly dry day so get down town, enjoy the fun and spoil yourself with some delicious treats.
First, head to The Tech Co. on Dominick Street (V92 XDR6) to pick up your tokens for the Taste Trail, a key feature of the festival, so you can sample a wide range of offerings from local restaurants and bars. See https://traleefoodfestival.com/ for the trail map.
The food markets at the Island of Geese open from 10am where there’ll be entertainment all day. There’s a kiddies zone, puppet show, music and more all through Saturday (see programme below).

Chef Antonio Hernandez from Alma Gastrobar will be making a paella from 1pm followed by a Schools Cook-Off Competition at 2pm, featuring teams from Presentation Tralee, Mercy Mounthawk, Gaelcholáiste Chiarraí and Causeway Comprehensive, judged by comedian and múinteoir Julie Jay.
Meanwhile, a stone’s throw away at The Abbey Car park, the food trucks will have everything you could possibly want from 10am right through to 9pm where you can buy your food and eat it in the marquee.
There’s music there all day in said Marquee with Darragh Curtin jazz sounds, Abby and Ellie, Music Generation trad, comedy from Ronan Grace, dancing from the Tara Dore school, songs from Owen Run and at 7pm that evening, the Michael O’Brien Trad Band.
