SINN Féin Cllr Deirdre Ferris has been informed by Kerry County Council’s Director of Services, John Breen, that work to connect Ardfert to the central regional water supply will begin at the end of October.
The announcement was made at this morning’s meeting of Kerry County Council after Cllr Ferris demanded action by Council management to address the ongoing problems with the water supply and flooding in the village.
This followed another burst in the mains this morning. Welcoming the announcement, Cllr Ferris said; “The community of Ardfert, a bit like their water infrastructure, have reached breaking point with the constant interruptions to their water supply, so this morning’s announcement from the Director of Services is most welcome.

“My demand on council management for action on the perennial problems with Ardfert’s water supply was made on behalf of a frustrated community, who have had to put up with this situation for far too long. I also asked that they, in conjunction with Irish water, come up with a plan to finally deal with flooding in the village, which has been going on for 40 years.
“The connection to the central supply will finally make the ancient and leaky water pipes redundant and the people of Ardfert can now look forward to a water service that most people take for granted.
“I will be working with the council over the coming period to try and make sure that the 5 month expected finishing date is met,” added Cllr Ferris.
