Tralee Chamber Alliance and Cara Credit Union Announce “Ag Siopadóireacht le Gaelainn'” Winners as Irish Language Takes Centre Stage!
Tralee Chamber Alliance and Cara Credit Union are delighted to announce the winners of the “Ag Siopadóireacht le Gaelainn'” initiative, a groundbreaking effort to promote the Irish language among Tralee’s youth during the Seachtain na Gaeilge celebrations. This initiative, which saw local retailers teaming up with primary schools, aimed to embed the Irish language into the daily lives of Tralee’s young residents.
At the core of “Ag Siopadóireacht le Gaelainn'” was a vision to inspire the younger generation to embrace their heritage and weave the Irish language into their everyday interactions. By encouraging students to use Irish when engaging with participating local shops and businesses, the initiative sought to create a vibrant, bilingual community.
To celebrate the success of this initiative, three local primary schools were awarded gift vouchers to purchase art and craft supplies. These schools demonstrated exceptional enthusiasm and commitment to using the Irish language throughout the week-long celebration. The winners are:

1. St. John’s Parochial School
2. Ardfert National School
3. Scoil Eoin Balloonagh

Tralee Chamber Alliance’s CEO, Colette O’ Connor, expressed pride in the community’s response to the initiative. “Tralee Chamber Alliance is committed to promoting Tralee as a fantastic place to live, work, and visit. A key part of this promotion is highlighting the fantastic community and collaborative spirit that is exceptionally strong here in North Kerry. Business and community come together throughout the year on a number of projects. For Seachtain na Gaeilge this year, we really wanted to highlight Tralee's status as a Gaeltacht Service town. Through our Education Steering Committee Sub Group, which includes representation from MTU, Kerry College, and Cara Credit Union, we explored ways to involve the area's fantastic primary schools with local businesses. Cara Credit Union, the Community Partner of Tralee Chamber, committed to fund the initiative, and it was fantastic to see local businesses and the schools across Tralee and the wider North Kerry area, including Ardfert, participate in it. "

Cara Credit Union’s Marketing Manager, Siobhán Donnelly, echoed these sentiments. “We are thrilled to support this initiative, which not only fosters a love for the Irish language but also strengthens community ties. Congratulations to the winning schools and a heartfelt thank you to Tralee Chamber Alliance and all participating retailers for their enthusiastic support.”
The “Ag Siopadóireacht le Gaelainn'” initiative has set a new standard for community collaboration in promoting the Irish language. It serves as a call to action for the younger generation to continue embracing their cultural heritage and to make the Irish language a living, breathing part of their everyday lives.

#PPN@10

The Kerry Public Participation Network (PPN) is delighted to announce the celebration of its 10th anniversary. This milestone marks a decade of significant achievements, growth, and unwavering commitment to enhancing community engagement and participation in County Kerry.

Since its inception in 2014, the Kerry PPN has served as a vital platform for community groups and organisations to engage with Kerry County Council, ensuring that the voices of the people are heard and considered in policy-making processes. Over the past ten years, the PPN has grown significantly, now representing over 1000 registered member groups which include community and voluntary, social inclusion and environmental groups throughout the county, reflecting the diverse and vibrant community spirit of Kerry.

Reflecting on a Decade of Achievements
As we celebrate this momentous occasion, we take pride in reflecting on the numerous accomplishments that have shaped the PPN into what it is today:
The Kerry PPN has facilitated hundreds of consultations, workshops, and public meetings, enabling community members to actively participate in decision-making processes. This has led to more inclusive and representative local policies.

Through various training programmes, the Kerry PPN has empowered community groups with the skills and knowledge needed to effectively advocate for their needs, apply for various funding applications and build the capacity and resilience of their member groups. Topics covered include governance, funding applications, and strategic planning.
The PPN has been instrumental in several successful campaigns, including environmental initiatives, social inclusion projects, and the development of a community wellbeing vision for County Kerry. These initiatives have not only improved the quality of life in Kerry but have also fostered a strong sense of community.

By providing a network for organisations to collaborate and share resources, the Kerry PPN has strengthened the community fabric of Kerry. This collaborative spirit has led to innovative solutions and successful partnerships that address local challenges.
The Kerry PPN’s dedication and impact have been recognised at both national and local levels. Various awards and accolades over the years are a testament to the hard work and commitment of its members and staff.
As we celebrate this 10-year milestone, we remain committed to our mission of fostering a vibrant, inclusive, and participatory community in Kerry. The coming years will see continued efforts to expand our reach, enhance our services, and adapt to the evolving needs of our community.

To commemorate this special occasion, the Kerry PPN will be hosting a series of events throughout the year, including information roadshows. We invite all our members and the wider community to join us in these celebrations and reflect on the collective achievements of the past decade. We would be delighted if groups would like to share photographs of their groups and the work that they are carrying out throughout County Kerry.
