WITH St. Patrick’s Day and the 1916 centenary on everyone’s mind of late, the girls over at ‘Social Box TV’ tested the people of Tralee on their basic Irish skills.
They put forward words like ‘airgead’, ‘arán’, ‘amadán’ to people on the streets during Seachtain Na Gaeilge to see if they could translate them. See how they got on here…

TRALEE folk are getting ready to dust off their walking shoes for a good cause on September 12 when they take part in the #Walking4Families campaign being run by the Ronald McDonald House Charities.
It will be a fancy dress themed 5km family fun walk, (so dressing up is ever so slightly encouraged) and will be kicking off from the Tralee Bay Wetlands at 2pm on the day and which will take in the surrounding area of Blennerville and Ballyard before finishing up again at the Wetlands.
The campaign is one that is raising money to help build a new 50 bedroom ‘Ronald McDonald House’ that will go alongside the new National Children’s Hospital.
All those that wishing to take part on day must do is try to raise as much money as they can for the campaign, be that through either sponsorship cards available by messaging the Tralee event HERE, where they will take your details and supply you with a sponsorship card, which you then return on the day of the walk.
Alternatively, if you are unable to attend the walk, you can again contribute to the campaign by texting WALK to 50300 which will give a donation of €4.

MAYOR of Tralee, Tom McEllistrim, has stated that one of his priorities for the year is securing city status for the town.
He said he hoped to achieve this under the ‘Living City Initiative’ which is designed to get cities back on their feet following the recession and to attract business back into the city centres.
Well the good people at Tralee YouTube Channel, Social Box TV, took to the streets to ask the people of the town what they thought of the idea.
Below is the video (and don’t forget to subscribe to the girls YouTube channel here)
THE girls over at ‘Social Box TV’ have uploaded another great interview to their YouTube channel.
This time they interviewed one of the co-founders of the Tralee Soup Kitchen, Collette Price, who along with her friend Dawn Roberts have been running the establishment with the help of volunteers since October 2012.
In the video, Collette reveals that up to 90 people are using the facility on a weekly basis and explains why they founded the service.
“I knew there was a need for a soup kitchen in Tralee. There’s a need for a soup kitchen in all towns throughout Ireland really,” Collette says in the video.

The interview touches on the recent news that the ‘The KY Comedy Alternative’, Kerry’s new comedy club, will be hosting its inaugural night in the Abbey Inn on April 16 and will donate all of its proceedings to the kitchen.
That money will be used to upgrade equipment and new services for those that come for help in the Teach an Solas hall, on Ashe Street, right next to St. John’s church.
The Soup Kitchen is open every Saturday from 12-2pm and is offered to anyone who may be in need of a hot three course meal.
If you would like to help in any way, you can call Collette Price on 086-3188736.

THE good people over at ‘Social Box TV’ have uploaded another video to their YouTube channel, this time asking the people of Tralee the question ‘Why Are You Proud To Be Irish?’
While the rest of us were either watching the parade with the little ones, marching with our groups/organisations or just out to enjoy the glorious sunshine of the day, the Tralee girls who run the channel were asking for opinions on what it meant to be from Ireland.
You can check out their video below where you might recognise a few people…
SO Christmas will officially kick-off on Saturday with the big parade through town.
