Kerry Academy Hurling
Well done to all Parnells players that represented Kerry over the weekend at U14, U15 and U16 level. The U14s and U16s both brought home silverware from their respective competitions.

Tralee Parnells Golf Classic – 6th September
In 2023, the club spent over €40,000 on preparing the pitch at Páirc na Darach to make it suitable for playing hurling and camogie – for ball-stops, nets, landscaping and sanding.

This year, the club has had to further invest in the pitch to make the playing surface safe and of sufficient quality to allow our young hurlers and camogie players display their skills on a top quality playing surface in a safe environment.

We have started to reap the rewards as both our U15 hurling and camogie teams won their county Feile na nGael titles this year and went on to represent Kerry with pride at the National Feile in Wexford in June, reaching their respective semi-finals.

Both those teams had used Pairc na Darach as their training base this year. As we don’t own this pitch, access to grants and other funding is very limited. It is likely that our spend on Pairc na Darach will be close to €20,000 this year.

To this end and to offset our spending, we are running our second Golf Classic in Beaufort Golf Club on Friday September 6th.

Last year’s inaugural event was a tremendous success and we were thrilled with the support we received. A team of 4 costs €300. Tee and Hole sponsorship opportunities also available.

This is our last fundraiser of the year so we are really looking for businesses to come on board to support the Juvenile side of the club.

We are also looking for businesses to sponsor prizes for the event. So we welcome any golfers from the club or friends and family to form a team. Text 0878377969 to book in a team.

Tralee Parnells Minor team that were defeated by Crotta in the Co Championship semi-final vs Crotta in Lixnaw last Thursday

Minor Hurling
Tralee Parnells 3-11 Crotta 2-17 (AET)
Our minor hurlers were beaten in the County Championship semi-final in Lixnaw last Thursday evening, but only after extra time following a great battle with a resilient Crotta side. Crotta were the better side in the first half scoring 10 points in the first half as Parnells found scores hard to come by.

Despite being second best however, Parnells managed to raise a green flag at crucial times to stay in the match, with Will Somers and Liam O’Connell finding the net for Parnells. Half time score: Parnells 2-2 Crotta 0-10.

However the second half was a different story. Parnells got the first 4 points of the second half with points from play from Fionan Ryan (his second) and Dan Maloney and 2 frees from Eoghan Costello. Crotta got the next 3 points to edge into a 1 point lead, but a point from play by O’Connell and 2 points from Eoghan Costello, 1 from play, had Parnells 2 ahead in the 48th minute.

Crotta hit a purple patch with 3 points in a row from their centre forward Evan O’Sullivan, the last a long range free which split the posts in the 60th minute. Parnells had one more chance to level it and a foul on Costello resulted in the same player converting the free to bring the match to extra time.

Dan Maloney put Parnells ahead in extra time but 2-1 without reply left the boys with a mountain to climb. However, a goal from Somers, when he whipped on a lose ball around the goalmouth just before half time in extra time gave Parnells some hope.

However, despite the best efforts of both teams, that was to be the last score, with Crotta running out winners by 3 points who will play Ballyduff in the County Final in Austin Stacks Park next Friday. Well done to the team and management on a great performance which just came up short.

This is a key fundraiser for the Academy section of the club to cover ongoing costs. Tickets are €10 which provides entry to the track on the day and the possibility of winning €500 if the ticket matches the winning combination in the Parnells Buster race that day. Roses and rosebuds will be present on the day also so it is a great opportunity to get photos. There will also be face painting, a bouncy castle and other fun activities for young and old. Tralee Parnells Minor squad who defeated St Brendans in the quarter final of the County Championship

Minor Hurling
Parnells minors took on St Brendan’s in Ardfert last Thursday evening in the 1/4 Final of the Co Championship. Having been beaten in the Co League final the previous week, the boys were looking to bounce back quickly.

They got off to a slow start however and St Brendan’s raced in to a 1-1 to no score lead thanks to a goal from midfielder Eoin Flaherty. Parnells started to come into the game with points from Dan Maloney and Fionan Ryan and the steady free taking of Eoghan Costello edged them ahead. However another goal by Flaherty where he breezed through the Parnells defence to smash the ball to the net had the teams level at half time Parnells 0-10 St Brendan’s 2-4.

The second half started with both sides sharing points but Parnells gradually started to get on top. Liam O’Connell, now positioned at the edge of the square, was impeded as he made his way towards goal and Costello raised a green flag with the resultant penalty.

St Brendan’s were always dangerous and Cian Harris in the Parnells goal had to be sharp when Flaherty went for goal from a close in free. Brody Leen scored from the 65. There  was still only 2 points in it with time almost up when a Parnells sideline cut was floated in which deceived the Brendan’s keeper and eventually ended up in the net.

John Ross blew the final whistle soon after and Parnells had just done enough to progress to the semifinal. Final score: Tralee Parnells 2-14 St. Brendan’s 2-9.  A good result but Parnells know more will be required to get to a Co Championship final.

The lads played three tremendous games with the quality of passing, tackling, striking and score getting worthy of the Munster championship venue. A massive thank you to all the parents who traveled to Limerick to support the boys.

Tralee Parnells Minors that lined out in Div 1 Co League Final in Austin Stacks Park last Thursday

Minor Hurling

Tralee Parnells 4-12

Ballyduff 3-21

Our Minor hurlers created history last Thursday evening in Austin Stacks Park as the first minor team from the club to reach a Division 1 Co League Final.

On a beautiful evening for hurling on a well prepared pitch, Parnells and their Ballyduff opponents served up a fantastic game of hurling.

After a close first half where Parnells took the lead, including a great goal by William Somers, but Ballyduff levelled it up by half time (Parnells 1-7 Ballyduff 0-10), the second half was even better. Scores were exchanged at either end until a wonder goal by Luke Hanafin for Parnells pushed them 5 points clear.

However, Ballyduff responded straight away with a goal of their own by man of the match Dylan Costello. Parnells were then dealt a hammer blow when they were reduced to 14 men with Conor Dennehy sent off for 2 yellow card offences within minutes of each other, though most onlookers judged that they were harshly awarded.

Parnells had their backs to the wall at that stage and with the benefit of the extra man, Ballyduff pushed on, scoring 1-3 in added time. Overall it was a great performance by our lads and they should take immense pride in it.

They now need to dust themselves down as they prepare for the Co Minor Championship, where they will play Div 2 winners St Brendans in the quarter final in a few weeks time.

Tralee Parnells: 1. Cian Harris 2. Mark Farrell 3. David Moore 4. Ryan Sheehy 5. Conor Dennehy 6. Tomas O’Connell 7. Jack Shanahan 8. Dan Maloney 9. Brian Reidy 10. Liam O’Connell 11. Christian Kennedy 12. Luke Hanafin 13. William Somers 14. Eoghan Costello 15. Daniel Spring

Tralee Parnells 12s after enjoying a Camogie blitz evening at The Spa Killarney

U12 Camogie
The girls enjoyed a fantastic evening of Camogie at The Spa GAA Club Killarney during the week when Killarney Camogie Club facilitated a six game in blitz.  There were some great displays of fantastic Camogie skills demonstrated by all teams involved. A huge thank you to Killarney Camogie club and to every team that participated.

Tralee Parnells 14s who played a challenge game against Sliabh Luachra during the week

U14 Camogie

The U14’s had another challenging but sporting game against a fast Sliabh Luachra team with a strong wind blowing which tested the skill set of both teams. A massive thank you to the referee on the night Diarmuid Brennan and to Sliabh Luachra for hosting the game.

Tralee Parnells U15s who defeated Abbeydorney by the narrowest of margins in the North Kerry Championship

U15 Hurling

In a thrilling North Kerry A Championship clash, our Under 15 hurlers emerged victorious against a very talented Abbeydorney Hurling Club side. Despite being down a few starters, Parnells managed to secure a hard-fought win by the narrowest of margins.

The game began with Parnells making some basic errors, which Abbeydorney capitalised on effectively. By halftime, Parnells found themselves trailing by five points with the scoreboard reading 0-08 to 0-03 in favour of Abbeydorney.

Our team struggled to find their rhythm, and it seemed like a tough uphill battle awaited in the second half. However, halftime proved to be a pivotal moment. After a much-needed break with orange slices and motivational words from the management team, Parnells came back rejuvenated.

The second half saw a significant improvement in their work rate and a reduction in mistakes. Luke Hanafin, in particular, began to influence the game significantly, scoring some spectacular points that lifted the team’s spirits. The decisive moment came late in the game when Parnells scored a crucial goal.

This turned the tide in their favour and despite a valiant effort from Abbeydorney, Parnells held on to secure a 1-point victory. The final score was 1-09 to 0-11. Hard luck to Abbeydorney, who played exceptionally well and arguably deserved something from the game. Overall, it was a great display of resilience and determination from our Under 15 hurlers, showing that even when down, they can come back stronger and fight for the win.

Minor Hurling

Our minor hurlers had a win over Crotta O’Neills on Sunday morning in Caherslee in the division one County League.

Kerry Camogie

It was a busy weekend for our county players with Evie O Sullivan, Ciara Trant, Clodagh Culloty, Sophie Brick and Sarah Chute taking part in the Kerry U14 Munster development blitz in Waterford on Saturday.

Kerry reached the final where they were very competitive but with a small panel on the day they simply ran out of steam and were defeated by Waterford.

Meanwhile, on Sunday the Kerry U15s were playing at Kilmoyley GAA club where they faced Clare. Parnells players Jessica Leen, Aoibhin O Sullivan, Orla Costello, Siofra Murphy, Emma Gaynor and Georgia Kennedy represented their county and came away with a win.

Tralee Parnells U16 girls who played Ballyduff.

U16 Camogie
Well done to our U16’s Camogie Team who met Ballyduff in round 6 of the County League on Friday evening in atrocious conditions in Parc na Darach.

During patches of sunshine we saw some fantastic skill from both sides. Thanks you to Ballyduff for a competitive game and to John Ross for refereeing the game and braving the bad weather!

Munster Camogie Poc Fada
Well done to Shauna Harris and Anna Chute who competed in the Munster Camogie Puck Fada at Thurles Racecourse last week.

The girls were both highly competitive in their categories. Congratulations to Roisín Ferncombe from Tipperary Camogie Club and County Development who won the U16’s category and to Anna Kearney from Cork Camogie who won the Adult event.

Our thanks to Munster Camogie for organising another great event and a great experience for all. Shauna and Anna did their Club and County proud!

Senior Hurling
Our senior hurlers were up against St Brendan’s of Ardfert in the County Senior Hurling Quarter final.

Parnells started well to lead in the opening minutes with a point from Cathal Dunne.  However, St Brendan’s soon settled into the game with a flurry of scores.  Parnells found some form with scores from Sean Healy, Cathal Dunne, and two from Oisin O’Brien.

With a half time score of 1-09 to 0-05 Parnells needed get a good start to the second half.
Unfortunately this was not the case with St Brendan’s really finding form in the second half.  With tough battles all over the field Parnells were struggling to find scores.

With points from Oisin O’Brien and Eddie Sheehy and a last minute goal by Tadgh Brick the game ended on a scoreline of  St. Brendan’s 2-21 Tralee Parnells 1-08.

As the first year playing at Senior level comes to an end the team and management can be very proud.  While results did not go our way the experience gained has been invaluable. As the saying goes, Rome wasn’t built in a day.

Our minor hurlers had a comprehensive win at the weekend over Causeway/Abbeydorney in the division one County League.

Tralee Parnells Camogie and Hurling Felie squads with their kindly sponsored kit before they head to the finals in Wexford last weekend 1

Féile na nGael Weekend
Friday the 21st June saw months of preparation come to fruition when our under 15 Hurling and Camogie teams headed to the sunny South East to participate in the National Féile na nGael competition in County Wexford.

The players had shown great commitment in the preparation for the competition with many of them training throughout their Junior Cert exams. After arriving at SETU in Waterford the teams had light training sessions at the excellent facilities.

On Saturday morning the girls travelled to Gusserane O Rahillys GAA club where their first game was against the host club.

Parnells had their work cut out as this team had been the Co Wexford champions at U14 in 2022.  This was a hard fought game with some excellent teamwork from Parnells being key to securing a victory. Tralee Parnells 1:06 Gusserane O Rahillys 1:01.

The second group game was against opposition from St. Annes in Waterford. A strong defensive  display from Tralee Parnells allowed our midfield to control the game and feed our forwards who took their chances. The girls came out comfortable winners on a score of 4:07 – 0:02.

The third game in our group stages was a tough physical battle with Crossmaglen Rangers of Armagh. Tralee Parnells girls never shy away from these tough encounters and finished well on the scoreline of 1:06 to 0:03

As the girls topped their group they qualified for the Cup semifinal where they would meet Navan O Mahonys from County Meath.

The breeze which had been a factor all day strengthened and during the first half, against the breeze, Parnells conceded two early goals. In the short Féile games this proved a huge challenge.

Unfortunately, despite the best efforts of the team, who battled back into contention and with momentum swinging their way in the final few minutes, a final score proved elusive.

The girls lost out on a place in the final, by the narrowest of margins, score Navan O Mahonys 2:01 Tralee Parnells 1:03

On Saturday morning the boys went on to Bunclody for their group games. First up was a strong Trim team from Co Meath. After a really tough physical game Tralee Parnells came away victorious on a scoreline of 7 points to 2.

The score does not reflect how tight the game was. Next up were the host club Bunclody, this was another really tough game with our lads coming out with a win by the tightest of margins of a one point win, 7 points to 6.  So onwards to the Tier 1 semi final.

After a quick lunch break the boys were up against Birr from Co Offaly.  Our lads gave it their all on the pitch but scores were hard to come by.

The loss of David Cullinan our full forward in the earlier game to a broken collar bone was felt during the game.   It was a valiant effort but the boys came up short losing to Birr by 1-4 to 2 points.

A very tired battered team came off the pitch at full time but no one could have asked more of every player on the panel.  We would like to wish David a speedy recovery.   Birr went on to win the Division 2 title.

The Camogie Managment team are extremely grateful to their sponsors Hugh Culloty and Sons , Tony Hennessy and Declan Costello and Sons.  The Hurling Managment team are extremely grateful to their kit sponsors MJ’s Diner, Belfield Christmas Trees and Allbrite Engineering.

The club would like to thank friends, families and the community who contributed to the fundraising efforts that helped to make this wonderful experience for the players.

The club are also immensely proud of all of the players  who demonstrated remarkable dedication and teamwork throughout the competition and who represented themselves, their families, the club, the town and the county with pride. We look forward to the next adventure with these very talented groups of players

U10 Camogie
Our U10’s girls had a great evening of Camogie in Crotta on Monday evening. Well done to all the girls, they enjoyed their evening and performed very well. Keep up the practice at home! Many thanks to Abbeykillix for organising

Tralee Parnells U13s who enjoyed a very competitive game against Ballyduff at Páirc na Darach 1

U13 Camogie
The U13’s played a very competitive and challenging game against a skilful Ballyduff side at Páirc na Darach on Wednesday night. Both teams excelled with some exceptional play on display. Thank you to Ballyduff for a sporting game and to referee Diarmuid Brennan.

Tralee Parnells U10 and U12s who represented the club at Caman to Croker 1

Camán to Croker
Our combined U10 & U12 Camogie squads enjoyed a hugely successful trip to Dublin for Camán to Croker last Sunday.  The event was part of the Camogie Association’s 120th anniversary celebrations where sixty four teams from across the country were selected to represent their clubs at a fun-filled day of blitz matches .

The Parnells girls enjoyed this fantastic opportunity for all players to play in some highly contested games with some fantastic displays of skill and resilience. A massive word of thank you to all who travelled but particularly to coach John Diggin who has invested so much in this great group of players

Summer Camp
The club will hold a summer Hurling and Camogie camp for children aged 5 to 13.  The camp will run from Monday 29th to Wednesday 31st July from 10am to 1pm at Caherslee GAA grounds.  The online booking system will open during the week. €20 for Club members, €40 non club members

Senior Hurling
It was a tough evening at the office as our senior squad suffered a heavy defeat in round two of the County Senior Hurling Championship in Sunday in Austin Stack Park. Despite their best efforts, the team couldn’t overcome the formidable challenge posed by Abbeydorney.

This was only their second outing at this level and the gap in experience and skill was evident.  However, as the saying goes, Rome wasn’t built in a day. There will be a lot to learn from this match and the lads will need to dust themselves off and come back stronger.

Sympathy
Tralee Parnells Hurling and Camogie Club would like to extend our deepest sympathies to Brendan Cullinan and family on the death of Brendan’s father.  Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam dílís.

Tralee Parnells Senior hurlers that lined out in their first ever Senior Hurling Championship match vs Lixnaw in Austin Stacks Park last Friday night

Senior Hurling
Last Friday night in Austin Stacks Park, our Senior hurlers made history as they made a return to the County Senior Hurling Championship after a century long break.

Their opponents in Group 2 were Lixnaw, last year’s beaten finalists. And what an occasion it was! After an incredible effort by the team, short 9 starters from last year’s victorious Intermediate Championship winning team, they came up just short, losing on a final score of Lixnaw 0-16 Tralee Parnells 0-14.

With the clock in injury time, Parnells had a chance to level the game but captain Tadhg Brick’s effort just tailed wide of the upright. Lixnaw then sealed victory with the last puck of the game.

Everyone in the club is very proud of the effort put in by players and Management. As was stated in the match report following the game, Parnells “have marked their arrival in senior hurling with … a performance that screams that they belong here”.

Next up in Round 2 of the SHC, Parnells play Abbeydorney at 6:30pm on Sunday 23rd in Austin Stacks Park. The team had great support last Friday and we again encourage everyone to come along to support the lads.

TRALEE PARNELLS: Ronan Gilsenan, Andrew Morrissey, Darragh Keane, Jonathan Lowe, Darragh Maloney, Tadgh Brick, Niall Cassidy, Morgan Madden 0-1, Enda O’Connor, Cillian O’Riordan, Stephen Morrissey, John Sherman, Eddie Sheehy 0-1, Gearoid O’Doherty 0-5 (5f), Oisin O’Brien 0-7 (5f). Subs: Johnny Downey for J Lowe (47), Shane Healy for J Sherman (48), Sean Woulfe for S Morrissey (55).

 Féile na nGael 2024
Another significant milestone in the club’s history will take place in Wexford next Saturday 22nd June when both our under 15 hurling and camogie teams participate in the national Féile na nGael competition.

This is a remarkable achievement for our young athletes, showcasing their talent and dedication to Hurling and Camogie. The boys will play Bunclody of Wexford and Trim of Meath in Group 2 Division 2 in Bunclody.

The girls will play Crossmaglen of Armagh, St Anne’s of Waterford and Gusserane O’Rahillys of Wexford in the group stages of Div 3. Parnells have brought home national Feile titles in the last 2 years, so fingers crossed for both squads and we have no doubt they will do the club proud. Safe travelling to all players, mentors and supporters.

If anyone still wants to contribute to our ongoing fundraiser to offset the substantial expenses of sending both teams to Wexford, ensuring that our players can proudly represent Tralee Parnells on the national stage, you can do so on the gofundme page https://gofund.me/e01d6f03

Tralee Parnells U9s who were honoured to play at half time of the SHC match between Tralee Parnells and Lixnaw in Austin Stacks Park last Friday night

U9 Hurling
Tralee Parnells Under 9’s were honoured to play at half time last Friday evening in Austin Stack Park as they supported our senior hurlers in their first game of the championship. It was a close game however it wasn’t to be Parnells night but what a great match it was to watch, Parnells certainly held their own and the U9s were highly impressed with the performance of the mighty blue and white. Playing in their shadows has shown these young players the possibilities that lie ahead and the future is certainly very bright for Tralee Parnells.

Senior Hurling
Our Senior hurlers welcomed Causeway to Caherslee last Friday evening in round seven of the County hurling league.

After an encouraging start, the concession of a couple of soft goals midway through the first half meant Parnells had a hill to climb for the remainder of the match.

However a brighter second half performance meant they stayed competitive against a strong Causeway side for whom Keith Carmody was always a thorn in Parnells side. Final score: Tralee Parnells 0-10 Causeway 3-19

Meanwhile our B team had their first outing of the season away to Kilmoyley B in Division 2 of the Co hurling league last Wednesday.

Stepping up from Division 3 from last year was always going to be a hard ask but there were some positive signs of things to come despite going down to a very strong home side. Captain Johnny Downey got Parnells only goal of the match. Final score: Tralee Parnells B 1-9 Kilmoyley B 4-14

Tralee Parnells U15s who won the Feile na nGael Division 1 Country Final in Abbeydorney on Saturday evening

Féile na nGael – Hurling
What a legendary showdown it was at Abbeydorney for the Kerry Hurling Under 15 Feile final between Tralee Parnells and Ballyheigue on Saturday evening.

Playing in our second Div 1 Feile final in three years, our lads went into the game as slight favorites, having beaten Ballyheigue in the group stage.

Ben Litchfield from Tralee Parnells relieves the presssure as he drives the ball into the forwards in the Div 1 Feile final

We got off to a flying start with an early goal, but we were soon under massive pressure from a talented Ballyheigue team. At halftime, we were trailing by a mere two points on a scoreline of 1-06 to 1-04 but did that dampen our spirits? Not a chance!

The first 15mins of the second half was a cagey affair with both teams exchanging scores. The tackling, effort and work rate from both teams was as fierce as you’d expect in a Feile final.

It was only in the final 15 minutes of the match that our boys truly found their form, mounting a spirited comeback that saw us seizing victory with a final score of 4-05 to Ballyheigue’s 2-09.

Danny Brick from Tralee Parnells emerges with the sliotar after immense pressure from Ballyheigue in the Div1 Feile Final.

There was great excitement at the final whistle with players, coaches, parents, and supporters embracing on the pitch as Captain Daniel Spring lifted the trophy for the team.

Thanks to Abbeydorney allowing their fabulous pitch and facilities to be used for the game, well done to Mike Hennessy and his team of linesmen and umpires and finally to Ballyheigue who are sure to be devastated on the loss but can be proud of their performance on their effort on the day.

Hats off to our phenomenal players and the coaching team whose dedication and years of hard work have brought us this moment of glory. Up Parnells!

Senior Hurling
Tralee Parnells took on St Brendans in round four of the County Hurling League last Friday evening in Caherslee. Parnells were first out of the blocks with a great score from play by John Sherman in the opening minute.

Gearóid O’Doherty (Doc) had his first score soon after, a free, and Sherman added his second point but these were all cancelled out by St Brendans as the sides were level on three occasions.

Doc scored his second free and this was quickly followed by a great goal by full forward Cillian O’Riordain in the seventh minute.

This gave Parnells a four point lead, but this only seemed to drive St Brendans on as they got the next six scores on the bounce. Oisin O’Brien steadied the ship for Parnells and two points in a row from centre forward Brian Lonergan and a point from Doc left the scores level at half time.

Half Time: Tralee Parnells 1-8 St Brendans 0-11

The second half was all one way traffic as St Brendans took over and Parnells seemed to run out of steam. St Brendans scored 1-7 without reply before Parnells added a free from Doc. Brendans added another six points with Sherman responding with the final point of the match.

Tralee Parnells U15s that defeated Lixnaw in the Feile semi-final in Caherslee last Friday evening

U15 Hurling
After a titanic battle in Caherslee last Friday evening which saw our lads come from eight points down to win by three against a very gallant Lixnaw side, they have now qualified for the County Feile Division 1 Final. Well done to all involved and commiserations to a good Lixnaw team who played their hearts out. Final score Parnells 4-07 Lixnaw 2-10

The final will be played in Abbeydorney next Saturday evening at 6:45pm vs Ballyheigue. We encourage all members and supporters to come out and support our lads in what is only the second time the club has reached the County Division 1 Feile Final.

Kerry U16 Camogie
Well done to all our Tralee Parnells players – Georgia (injured), Siofra, Jessica, Caoilainn, Anna O, Emma, Anna C and Orla – who played with Kerry U16s in the Munster Shield Semi-Final in Caherslee last Saturday.  Unfortunately it wasn’t Kerry’s day but the team put up a great battle against a strong Tipperary side. Best of luck to Tipperary in the final.

Senior Hurling
Our Seniors played away to Crotta in Round 4 of the County Hurling League last Friday. Missing a number of regulars, including our Kerry panelists, Parnells were always going to be up against it against the reigning County Champions.

Playing with the help of a strong wind in the first half, the home side built up a commanding half time lead, mainly due to the sharp shooting of Crotta’s midfielders Shane Nolan and Barry O’Mahony. However, a much better second half performance by Parnells who used the elements to their advantage, while restricting Crotta to shooting from distance, put a more respectable look on the scoreboard. Final score: Tralee Parnells 0-15 Crotta 3-20.
The Seniors are at home to St Brendans in Caherslee next Friday at 6:30pm.

Junior Hurling
Tralee Parnells B team commence their Division 2 County League campaign away to Kenmare next Wednesday at 7pm.

Academy Training
Last Friday, thankfully the weather was on our side to allow some of our academy teams to return to Caherslee. Weather permitting, training will continue every Friday in Caherslee. Mentors will be in touch with the new training times.

Kerry Seniors
The club would like to wish the Kerry Senior Hurling team and Management and in particular Parnells players Darragh Reen and Morgan Madden the best of luck as they kick off their Joe McDonagh campaign away to Westmeath next Sunday.

It was great to see some of our younger squad members taking some great scores in both matches. Thank you to Causeway and Ballyduff for the competitive matches.

Thank you also to Diarmuid Brennan and Mike Hennessy who refereed the matches and also to Ardfert Community Centre for providing the pitch on both occasions.  The girls will now face Cillard in the Division 1 County Feile final on Sunday 14th April.

Our under 12s participated in the Munster GAA blitz in Croke Park last week. The boys played against Clare, Cork and Limerick opposition with some fantastic hurling on display.  Everyone had a very enjoyable day out, well done boys and management.

Academy Training
Unfortunately Caherslee was closed last Friday due to recent heavy rain.  Weather permitting, academy training will return to Caherslee next Friday 12th April. Mentors will be in touch with the new training times.

Last One Standing
Congratulations to Padraig Kerins on winning our Last One Standing competition. With over two hundred entries initially it was down to nine participants for the league final last Sunday.

Padraig and John McCarthy predicted the correct winning margin for Clare against Kilkenny but as Pádraig had a higher number of points in the competition he was declared the winner. Congratulations Padraig.

Scór na bPaistí

Pride of place this week goes to our Trath na gCeist team of Anna Spring, Michael Broughton, Conor Reidy and Sean Lynch who won the County title in John Mitchels clubhouse last Friday night.

After a close contest which went all the way to a tiebreak, the Parnells team emerged victorious.

We were also well represented last weekend by our Instrumental musicians Conor Reidy, Aoife Hobbert, Keelin Walsh and Sean Lynch and our solo performer Aoife Hobbert who did Parnells proud.

Schools Camogie
Well done to all the players who competed in the Allcare Kerry Schools 1st Year Camogie blitz held in and hosted by Mercy Secondary School Mounthawk during the week. 5 teams competed from Causeway (x2), Mercy Mounthawk, Presentation Tralee & Kanturk.

Overall winners were Causeway Comprehensive who had a narrow win over Mounthawk in the Final. It was fantastic to see Tralee Parnells so well represented between Presentation Tralee and Mounthawk School and potentially new recruits with girls trying out Camogie for the first time!

Senior Hurling

Our Senior hurlers played Causeway in a North Kerry League match last Wednesday night under lights in Caherslee. Despite the midweek fixture, Parnells were able to field a relatively strong team and matched a full strength Causeway team throughout.

But for a few defensive lapses, which allowed Causeway in for 2 goals, the result could have been different. In the end Causeway were just about value for their win.

Final score: Tralee Parnells 1-14 Causeway 2-16. We wish Rory Reen a speedy recovery from injury which he picked up in the match. Next up for the Seniors is a home tie vs Dr Crokes in Division 1 of the County Hurling League on Good Friday at 7:30pm. Please come along and support the lads.

Tralee Parnells 0-11 Ballyheigue 0-11

Last Sunday in Ballyheigue, under a new Management team, led by Martin Downes, Tralee Parnells got their Division 1 County Senior Hurling League campaign off to a good start, sharing the spoils with the home side.

On their return to Division 1 after a break of a year, there were some very positive shoots, considering this was their first match of the year. Parnells welcomed two new recruits to the team and to the club, Martin Frawley (Clare) and John Sherman (Laois) and both players certainly showed great potential. Parnells got off to the better start, with Darragh Reen, who was a constant threat, slotting over a free which he quickly followed by a point from play.

Ballyheigue finally found their rhythm and were back on level terms soon after with 2 quick points from play. Tadhg Reen put Parnells back in front after 5 minutes with a great point from play. Ballyheigue then hit a purple patch and scored the next 4 points in a row to put some daylight between the teams.

Darragh Reen pulled one back from play after 12 minutes, which was cancelled out by Ballyheigue soon after. Darragh Maloney got on the scoreboard after 20 minutes with a good point, though a goal looked on. Ballyheigue rounded out the scoring with a free to leave the halftime score Tralee Parnells 0-5 Ballyheigue 0-8.

Parnells now playing into the village end, came flying out of the blocks in the second half and had the first four scores of the second half, all frees converted by Darragh Reen. Morgan Madden, who had a great game from wing back, extended Parnells lead with a super score from play after 44 minutes. Ballyheigue eventually replied with 2 frees of their own to leave the scores level with just over 10 minutes left.

A super move from the back involving all 3 Reen brothers finished with Tadhg getting his second point of the day after 53 minutes. It was nip and tuck from there to the end with Ballyheigue getting the equaliser with yet another free 2 minutes from time.

Parnells had two chances to win it at the death, but both chances were unfortunately spurned. Nevertheless, Parnells left the happier of the two teams with their first County League point in the bag.

What was striking was the never say die attitude with the defence holding firm to snuff out any goal threats and the work rate across the team. Next up is a North Kerry League match vs Causeway on Wednesday evening in Caherslee followed by Rd 2 of the County League with Abbeydorney visiting Caherslee on Saturday 16th at 4pm.

Final score: Tralee Parnells 0-11 Ballyheigue 0-11

Scorers for Parnells: D. Reen (0-7, 0-5f), T. Reen (0-2), D. Maloney (0-1), M. Madden (0-1)

1. Mark Ryall 2. Rory Reen 3. Darragh Keane 4. Luke Chester 5. Martin Frawley 6. Tadhg Brick (Capt) 7. Morgan Madden 8. Cathal Dunne 9. Andrew Morrissey 10. John Sherman 11. Tadhg Reen 12. Darragh Maloney 13. Niall Cassidy 14. Darragh Reen 15. Stephen Morrissey

Subs: Oisín O’Brien (for Stephen Morrissey); Johnny Lowe (for John Sherman)
