COUNCILLORS in Tralee have agreed that the roundabout at Ballymullen is to be dedicated to the memory of the late Dick Henggeler.

Mr Henggeler and his wife Eibhlín bought the former Fels Point Hotel back in 2015. It was then refurbished and renamed The Rose Hotel.

The Henggeler’s daughter Dorothy (Dott) was the Washington, D.C. Rose back in 2011. Sadly, she passed away in 2012, but Dick and Eibhlín purchased the hotel as lasting tribute to her memory.

The hotel has since thrived and through its success, the Henggelers have made a significant contribution to the economy in Tralee.

Former Mayor of Tralee Terry O’Brien proposed the naming of the roundabout in honour of the late Mr Henggeler — who passed away in October of 2025 — at the recent meeting of Tralee Municipal Distric and it was unanimously agreed by councillors that it would be a fitting tribute to a man who has made such a valuable contribution to life in Tralee.

The Ballymullen Roundabout is already home to the Rose monument, which was commissioned by  Dick and Eibhlín Henggeler back in 2017, to honour the wonderful community and voluntary spirit that goes into the organisation of the festival.
