LASTA Youth Arts Festival Takes Place In Siamsa This Week

.
Amano will perform as part of the LASTA festival this Sunday evening at Siamsa Tíre.

THE LASTA Youth Arts Festival  begins at Siamsa Tíre on Thursday, 1 October, offering audiences four days to experience new visual arts and theatre works, discover emerging artists and get creative.

It’s an opportunity to meet others and explore themes ranging from the Irish language and analogue creativity to wellbeing, identity, music, film and our relationship with nature.

Now in its sixth year, LASTA is a national festival created by young people, for young people. At Siamsa Tíre, this year’s programme has been shaped by Young Curators Antonia Gergely and Neil Moore Ryan.

Their approach has focused on identifying what matters to audiences today while providing a platform for artists and reflecting the interests, concerns and cultural influences that excite them and their generation.

Running from Thursday to Sunday this week, LASTA officially opens on Thursday at 7pm with the Backspace Art Exhibition and Ag Samhlú Saoil Eile Sound Installation.

Both are open to the public daily throughout the festival. Some events are free and others ticketed so it is highly recommended to book tickets in advance as capacity is limited for some of the events.

This year’s programme explores themes including the resurgence of the Irish language, a return to analogue creativity, self-reflection and wellbeing, while creating opportunities for people to connect through fashion, film and music.

The programme is as follows...

7.30pm: Anonn – bi-lingual theatre by Scaoilte Theatre

Antonia and Neil commented, “Our goal is to bring people together at Siamsa Tíre, and to highlight the venue as a welcoming space to celebrate culture and community at every age.”

Angela Ryan Whyte, CEO Siamsa Tíre, added, “LASTA is a wonderful example of what can happen when we genuinely give young people the space, trust and opportunity to shape the cultural programme they want to see. Antonia and Neil have brought enormous enthusiasm and imagination to their role as Young Curators, creating a programme that is varied, welcoming and reflective of the interests of their generation.”

“We are delighted to support them and look forward to welcoming audiences to Siamsa Tíre for four days of creativity, conversation and connection.”
