In 2001, St. John’s Secondary School at Balloonagh and St. Mary’s Secondary School in Moyderwell amalgamated marking a major new chapter in post-primary education in the town.
It brought together almost 100 years of Mercy educational tradition from Balloonagh and Moyderwell and created a new school community that has continued to grow and flourish over the past 25 years.
From its original enrolment, Mounthawk has developed into one of the largest secondary schools in Kerry.
Thousands of students, staff and families have shared in the Mounthawk journey, creating friendships, memories and experiences that continue long after students leave the school gates.
