Department Of Heritage To Conduct Review Of Tralee Courthouse

.

THE Department of Heritage are conducting a review of Tralee’s historic courthouse and their views will be communicated to the OPW and the Courts Service.

The Courts Service has signalled it wishes to construct a new court complex in Tralee, rather than invest in the existing building on Ashe Street, with the former Denny factory site being the preferred option.

Sinn Féin TD for Kerry Pa Daly has welcomed the news of the review, saying the Courts Service has been deliberately downgrading services in the courthouse in Tralee.

.

“While the refusal to invest in our court building has continued for years, under successive governments, this has recently accelerated with the removal of circuit court or indictable cases to Limerick despite efforts by local lawyers to keep services here and prevent the exodus out of the county of Gardaí, victims of crime, witnesses and representatives for weeks on end,” said Deputy Daly.

“The only investment in Tralee’s court over the past 40 years has been a lick of paint and a kitchen for the judge’s chamber. Plans for wheelchair access have gone no further than the wall of the lobby in the courthouse. A policy of running the court in Tralee into the ground is not acceptable.

“Everybody concerned accepts that we need an improved court building, but the correct decision and the overall good of the town and town centre must be prioritised.

“No proper plans for the existing site have been produced but with increased emphasis on the importance of town centres and preserving historic buildings I hope that the potential for both enhancing the current building and keeping court business in its current location in Tralee town centre can be achieved,” he said.

U20 FOOTBALL: Dr. Crokes 4-17; Austin Stacks 4-8.

Our round 4 game in this five round Co. League against Laune Rangers did not go ahead as planned last week. No new date has been fixed as we write. Our round 5 game against Dr. Crokes did go ahead  in Lewis Road on Monday evening (16th Aug) which ended in a nine points win for the home side.

MINOR FOOTBALL: The Co. League Div. 1 semi final between ourselves and Laune Rangers did not go ahead as scheduled on  Monday evening (16th Aug). No new date has been fixed as we write. In the other Div. 1 semi final, Glenflesk had a two points win over Fossa (3-11 to 3-9).

CONGRATULATIONS: to David White and Aoife Dempsey who were married in Newbridge at the weekend. David, son of Dell and Josh, was a former Club player who played a huge role as a member of the great C team of the mid noughties winning the double (Co. Championship and Co. League) in 2005 with that great team, lining out as a wing forward for most of the games played during that season..

AUGUST IN THE PAST (11/08 to 17/08). On the field of play on 17th August 2016 our Hurlers won the South Kerry SH League with a comprehensive win over Kenmare by 3-13 to 0-8.

Line-out: Michael O’Leary, Kevin O’Leary, Peter O’Regan, Eddie Barry, Ian Moynihan, Paul Daly (0-1 – sixty five), Andrew Morrissey, Ciaran Breen (0-3), Robert Byrne (0-1), Andrew Foley (Capt), Killian O’Riordan, Johnny Downey, Ronan Gilsenan (1-0), Seán Hartnett (1-0), Colm Ó Giollagáin (1-7 – two frees). Subs: Kieran McCaughley (0-1), James Smullen, Seán King, Tadhg Meehan.

Also on the field of play it turned out to be an evening of drama in Gallarus (11th Aug 2002) when Stacks and An Ghaeltacht met in the first round of that season’s Co. Championship. The positive for us was the Championship debut that evening of four great Rockies – Alex Donovan, David Leonard, Timmy Lynch and the one and only Kieran Donaghy who is still going strong.

Off the pitch, on 12th Aug 201, we had the very first Strictly Come Dancing Fundraiser in the Brandon Hotel.

Two great Rockies passed away during this week in August. First in 2014 (12th Aug) a former footballer, Morgan O’Connell died and the following year (16th Aug) we lost that great C Team Manager and Lotto Seller, Charlie Healy.

Our u11s were out again Thursday evening in Rd 4 of the Lee Strand Phase 2 County Go Games.  We were hosted by Ballydonoghue/Clounmacon.  Once again we displayed wonderful football and showed top class skills.  Our coaches are so proud of each and every one of these players.  Their dedication to training sessions each week is paying off in every game this season.

Ardfert led 2-6 to 1-5 at half time having played into a strong breeze. They hit a new gear in the second half with some brilliant defending and fantastic scores. Ardfert ran out comprehensive winners in the end. Final score Ardfert 5-12 Na Gaeil 2-5
