New local grants scheme announced for sports clubs in Kerry

Kerry sports clubs can apply for grants of up to €5,000 per club under a new funding scheme announced this week by the Kerry Recreation & Sports Partnership.

The aims of the Partnership include increasing participation in sport and physical activity, improving the quality of coaching and training and supporting volunteers in sport. The Sports Club Grant 2024 aims to assist new and existing clubs in creating structures which achieve long-term development and offer benefits to the club.

The grant is targeted at voluntary and non-profit sports clubs and groups that can contribute to the strategic goals of Kerry Recreation & Sports Partnership under the following categories:

Increased participation in Sport and Physical Activity
Greater access to training and education
Better club Governance
Online applications are now being accepted for assistance under this fund, which is available on Kerry County Council’s website, under three strands:

Strand 1: Sports Club small equipment grant programme (max €3,000)
Strand 2: Sports Club Education and training supports (max €1,000)
Strand 3: Sports Club participation initiative support Scheme (max €1,000)
Sports Clubs may apply (where eligible) for one or more of the strands.

Colm McEvoy, Chairperson of Kerry Recreation & Sports Partnership said, “This is a great resource for local clubs to create, enhance and continue the amazing opportunities they are creating for people to be active, connected and healthy in their local communities”

The Cathaoirleach of Kerry County Council, Cllr Jim Finucane, encouraged as many Sports Clubs as possible to apply for the funding opportunity.
“This is a most welcome opportunity for our sports clubs to access funding to support the participation of their members. Sport plays such a significant role in the lives of people in Kerry, and I would encourage all clubs to apply.” he said.

The closing date for applications is Friday, 5th July 2024.
