Kerry 2-13 Roscommon 4-10

In a game dubbed “the game that Croke Park forgot about”, the Kerry under 21 hurlers lost to Roscommon in the All-Ireland B Under 21 hurling semi-final in Ennis on Saturday.

This was a game that everybody in Kerry expected to be a bit of a cakewalk, except for one of the Kerry mentors I spoke to before the game.

He said; “this could be a banana skin for us” and so it proved to be.

Kerry opened the scoring on 30 seconds but were behind a minute later when Roscommon centre-forward Tomas Fetherton goaled.

That goal was to be one of three he would score before the final whistle.

Roscommon led 2-5 to 1-6 at halftime.

Nine minutes into the second half Kerry got a grip on the game and drew level 2-8 to 2-8 and led 2-11 to 2-8 on seventeen minutes.

The Rossies added two goals, one from Robbie Fallon and one from their dual star centre forward Tomas Fetherton.

Kerry tried as they might to drag the game to extra time by attepting to manufacture a goal by some intricate short passing, but were repelled by a very strong and determined Roscommon outfit.

Apparently “Croke Park forgot about this game” according to one gentleman in the know, with the team list for the Clár not being requested from at least one team.
