THERE were over 20 tables taken on Friday night to help out a local sports club which is going from strength to strength.
The table quiz at O’Donnells in Mounthawk was in aid of Tralee Rowing Club who put in a new pontoon back in April as Chairperson, Mary Bonner, explained.
“With this new pontoon we’re able to launch more than one boat at a time, the last structure worked very well for it time, but we have too many people now and we needed more rapid launching and it’s really serving its purpose. It did cost a lot of money though and while we did get LEADER funding we still had to pay one-third of the costs.”

“We had to take out a loan so the funds raised tonight will go towards that and some new equipment. We’ve taken on 12 children this year and the open day for adults in early September was a great success, so we expect new members as a result of that.”
If those new additions materialise, they’ll have nearly 100 members at a club which has grown so much over the years that they are now competing regularly at regattas.
“There’s a race in two weeks time in Castleconnell, which is effectively the start of the season and there’ll be 35 children from the club at that. It’s one of the largest entries we’ve had at a regatta,” said Mary.
It’s clear from the turnout for the quiz that there’s a great spirit in the club and the numbers will grow over the coming years. Scroll down for photos…
