PRESENTATION Primary School broke with tradition this year to deliver a Christmas show with a difference at the school hall on Wednesday.
Entitled ‘Save Our Planet’, this was a musical play involving all children from Junior Infants to Second Class and it didn’t disappoint those attending.
“As we are participating in Year 2 of the Creative Schools initiative, which aims to put creativity at the heart of the children’s lives, we decided to base our Christmas show around our theme for this year, ‘Shape and Space’,” said teacher Helena Hennessy.

“We felt it was important to base our Christmas show around our environmental theme, as children love creativity and developing these skills while portraying very important and vital messages about recycling and reducing global emissions, engages the children in a fun process that also challenges their critical thinking skills and increases their awareness of such issues,” she continued.
“’Save Our Planet’ explores two important themes – caring for our environment and showing respect for other cultures. Planet Zarkonia is slowly dying and the Zarkonians suspect it has something to do with the dirty gases rising up from Planet Earth. The leader of the Zarkonians, Big Zed, sends Zak the friendly alien to Planet Earth to help sort out the problem.
“He meets Mollie and Michael who explain through their “rap” that people on earth are killing the Zarkonians by using too much fuel, electricity, water and other powerful forces that are messing up the ozone layer.
“Thanks to Earth’s email and television technology, Mollie, Michael and Zak are soon appearing on “World News” to publicise their important cause. After a few weeks their campaign is successful and Zarkonia is restored to health,” explained Ms Hennessy.
Santa also makes an appearance while pupils also got to show their musical skills during the show. Scroll down for photos…
