CANDIDATES vying for seats on the Tralee Municipal District of Kerry County Council took a break from canvassing to help out a great cause and have some fun at the opening of the Tralee Food Festival last night.
Many of them agreed to take part in the Office Chair Racing at the Abbey Car Park organised by the Kerry Mental Health Association while also making a generous donation.
They were joined by local sponsors too — including representatives from JRI America and Tralee Chamber —in an event that proved to be hugely entertaining.

The task was simple; participants had to propel thmselves forwards in the swivel chairs, using only their legs, over the 20 metre course.
Some questionable tactics were employed by some candidates, but, after a number of heats and semi-finals, there was no dispute about the winner.
Thomas Maguire representing one of the sponsors, Lakeside Cafe at Tralee Bay Wetlands, beat off game competition from Fine Gael candidate Anglie Baily to win this year’s crown.
