Announcing the appointment, Lorcán Mac Gabhann, Chief Executive of Glór na nGael, stated that this appointment will have a positive impact on the future of the Irish language in the town itself and in the surrounding areas.

“The main objective is that this plan will help us all to foster the language in Tralee,” said Mac Gabhann. “The success of the plan will, of course, depend on the partnership of all active groups in the community, including community groups and state agencies.”

Con Moynihan, acting Irish Officer with the Kerry Education and Training Board, expressed his enthusiasm at the appointment. “The passion that Michelle shows for the Irish language and the town of Tralee is very clear,” said Con.

“Her extensive experience and positive demeanor will serve her well in this new role, and she is certain to make significant contributions to the growth and development of the Irish language in Tralee and the surrounding areas. I wish her every success.”

Planning began in 2020 with the creation of the Tralee Language Plan by the Kerry Education and Training Board. Tralee was recognised as a Gaeltacht Service Town in September 2022.

A Gaeltacht Service Town is a town with a population of at least 1,000 people located in or near a Gaeltacht language planning area and plays a significant role in providing social, economic, and recreational services to people in that area.
