JUST days after floods threatened homes, the residents of Manor Village were out in force for the switching on of the Christmas lights on Tuesday evening.

Kerry star Aidan O’Mahony, helped by Nicola Walsh, did the honours on a dry night which brought out families.

“It’s all for the kids, tonight’s their night,” said Joe Moynihan. “It was always going ahead despite the floods at the weekend.”

Joe wanted to thank the local services for all the work they did during Storm Desmond in the estate.

“We have to thank Kerry County Council and the fire service for all the work they did for us this week. This area was all flooded. They were very prompt and were up straight away when we called. No homes were flooded in the estate. You couldn’t fault them for what they did and great credit is due to them,” he said.

There was a countdown and a big cheer when the lights were switched on. There was also a raffle and everyone enjoyed officially kicking off Christmas in the estate.
