FORMER pupils from Listellick NS gathered on Saturday afternoon to do battle for the ‘Top Of The Hill’ Cup.
The John Mitchels All-Weather pitch was the venue for the game which is in its second year. Organiser Ricky Moloney explained what the match is all about.
“Last year Listellick school celebrated its 150th anniversary and there was a book launched to commemorate it. We looked through it and saw the pupils from many years ago used to play a game with teams based on who went out the school gate left and who went out right.

“We decided to play our own game and put the word out. It snowballed and we got a cup, we filmed the match and had a great time. This year we have 11 new players we didn’t have last year, but 10 players that were involved last year couldn’t make it today.
“It’s an excuse to all meet up and have a bit of craic. Most of us went to Listellick but there’s a few new faces. A guy came down from Armagh especially for it. We’ll head to Gallys tonight to watch a DVD of the game,” said Ricky.
The team who went out the gate to the left were the ‘Doon’ side while the those who departed to the right were ‘Listellick’ the holders of the trophy.
In the end, Doon won the bragging rights a tightly fought contest 2-15 to 0-19 points, with Kieran Dineen named Man of the Match.
Noel Healy was voted Players’ Player of the Game and Paul Healy got the ‘Score of the Game’. A fantastic day then and an even better night later at Gallys. Scroll down for photos…
