There was great excitement at Blennerville National School on Wednesday as the children welcomed their grannies and grandads to their school.
Grandparents Day is held every year as part of Catholics schools week. It is a celebration of the support and wisdom that grandparents provide all year round.
There were two sessions held in the school, one for the junior classes and one for the senior classes. A beautiful prayer service was lead by Father Francis Nolan, with refreshments provided afterwards.
One granny, Lena O’Connor, thought it was a great opportunity to connect with her granddaughter. The great grandmother said; “I never had a generation gap. We talk, we discuss everything. You get to know them better.”
She continued; “I collect them one day a week. She’s delighted to see me coming. The spoiling!”
Grandparents Day is a great opportunity for them to see what’s happening inside the school, to meet teachers and to socialise with other grandparents. Scroll down for photos…
