ELEVEN U13 teams from Kerry and further afield took part in a blitz on Saturday in John Mitchels in memory of former Kerins O’Rahillys footballer Sandra Keane.
“It was a fantastic day and the good weather really helped,” said organiser Maurice McNamara.
There were three prizes on offer in three grades, the cup, shield and plate. Doora/Barefield from Clare won the cup competition beating Corca Duibhne in the final while Austin Stack won the shield.
“There was no hassle, no complaints and everything off smoothly. All the girls and their families enjoyed themselves. The facilities at John Mitchels are top class so it was great to hold it there,” said Maurice.
I played for John Mitchel’s Minors when we won the 1954 Co. Championship, I missed the final because my sister Nelly was returning to England and I went with her a few days before the final , something I have always regretted . Our trainer Jakes McDonald sent me a winners medal. My brother Edmund played for the Senior team when they won the 1953 final. My Dad, Jack played with John Joe Sheehy in the 1920,s, photo in Uggie Crayes pub in Boherbee..
I should be in Tralee around August time so I hope to meet some friends.
Bye for now,
Pat Moriarty. [Basingstoke,England]
