A Special Challenge For Runners At Beautiful Brandon Bay

.
Runners in last year’s race.

THE 6th annual Brandon Bay half marathon and 10k event will take place on Saturday, July 20 on the beach around, of course, Brandon Bay.

Set entirely on the Wild Atlantic Way and surrounded by the beauty of the Slieve Mish mountains and Mt Brandon itself, the event, participants never leave the beach from the moment they arrive until the moment they leave.

The race both starts and finishes at Fahamore on the Maharees (near Spillane’s Bar) and is set on what is known as an ‘out and back’ style course where participants both start and finish the race at the same place having ran out and then returned to complete both distances.

The event, as always, is organised by Castlegregory Celtic FC as a fundraiser and is entirely not-for-profit with all proceeds going not only to the soccer club but also to many other community groups and international charities as well.

This year’s chosen beneficiaries are: The Maharees Conservation Association, Friends from Ireland Charity, Aughacashla National School and Scoil Náisiúnta an Clochán.

Entry into the Brandon Bay half marathon & 10k is open on www.brandonbayhalfmarathon.com and costs €30/€40 for the 10k/half marathon respectively and includes an event tech tee, bespoke event medal, race number and timing chip for all participants.

There is a walk-in registration evening on Friday 19th July from 5-9:30pm in the club rooms in Castlegregory for anyone that doesn’t register online (note – no registrations possible on the day given the remote location of the race!)

Last year’s event was the biggest to date with over 500 registered to walk, jog or run on the beach and numbers to date are on a par with last year so  organisers are expecting another fantastic day on the beach.
