THE BALLOONAGH convent will close its doors by the end of the month.
The convent has operated since 1858 and last Saturday a special mass was celebrated by Bishop Ray Browne for the Sisters of Mercy, who run the convent.
Last month it was announced by the Sisters of Mercy that they will be closing the convent. Resident nuns at the convent, will now move to other accommodation in the weeks ahead.
The convent will hold its last weekday mass this Friday with the last Sunday mass taking place on September 13. There will be a special mass of thanksgiving on Wednesday, September 16 at 6:30pm.
