Ardfert School To Host Children’s Cycle Event In September

.

PREPARATIONS for the second annual Ardfert Annual Kids’ Cycle have moved into top gear as the event is just four weeks away.

Taking place on Sunday, September 16 at 12pm, children have the option of a 5km or 10km cycle. At last year’s inaugural kids cycle, 58 kids who were all accompanied by an adult took part.

As this was the first organised group cycle that a number of the kids participated in, the excitement around the school beforehand was palpable.

There was a great atmosphere on both cycles with parents marshalling the outside lane and the kids having great fun as they made their way around by Liscahane and over to Turbid Cross and back to Ardfert, discussing their super-duper bikes and what gears they were using.

Again this year, the kids will be led out by the community garda and also David Fitzgerald, who attended the school previously, will be there on the day to accompany and give encouragement to the young riders.

Back at the school, the family atmosphere will continue as a DJ will entertain all supporters, parents, siblings and grandparents who will turn up to congratulate everybody as they return.

As the cyclists return to the acclaim of the DJ and the applause of their supporters they will be presented with a medal and a party bag by David Fitzgerald.

Participants must be aged 8 and over and be accompanied by an adult. Registration fee for the fun cycle is €10 per child or €25 per family (3 children or more). Registration will take place in Ardfert National School on Sunday 16th before the cycle at 11 – 11.45am. For more information and map of the routes check out Ardfert Annual Cycle on Facebook.
