IT’S emerged this evening that Austin Stack Park will close at the end of May for upgrading work.
A new sand-based pitch will be laid and there will be new floodlighting and other work. The news was revealed at the County Committee meeting tonight at Austin Stack Park.
It is expected the work will be completed by March/April next year.
This could affect Allianz League football and hurling games being held in Tralee next spring.
If that is the case, it will be a financial blow to the town as a number of people from Donegal and Monaghan stayed in the town before and after their league games against Kerry this spring.
The Chairman of the Kerry County Board informed the meeting that he would be meeting the business people of Tralee this week to discuss fundraising for the venture.
Also at the meeting, Development Officer Tim Murphy informed the meeting that Kerry GAA had secured a 21 year lease of a Pitch at the Tralee Sports Complex.
