COVID-19: The COVID-19 Emergency Fund is a grant programme to provide funding to groups that are directly involved in the Community Call response to the COVID-19 pandemic. It is funded by the Department of Rural and Community Development and administered by the Local Authority in each area. Austin Stacks GAA Club acknowledges the receipt of €280 in funding.
GAME TIME: With the publication of a new 2020 roadmap announced last week by Croke Park (for inter-county activity) and by our own Co. Board (for local action) there is now hope that games will go ahead, probably not in the same fashion as before, but at least our players should be back in action after the longest lock-down in living memory. It’s scheduled to start at local level with an eleven week period (w/e 1st August to w/e 10th October) earmarked for Club and Co. Championships and then inter-county activity beginning on the w/e of 17th October.
Our Seniors will be involved in the opening three rounds of the Club Championship (w/e 1st, 8th and 15th Aug) with the final to be held later in the season. At the moment it is proposed that the Co. Championship will be run-off on a knock-out basis, commencing on the w/e 22nd August. That would probably mean one game in a preliminary round, then eight games in round one, followed by four quarter final games, two semi-finals and a final.
There will also be Championship activity for our Junior teams – McElligott, Molyneaux and Barrett Cup competitions. There is also likely to be a MF Co. Championship but Co. Secretary, Peter Twiss, is doubtful that an U21F Championship could be held having regard to the narrow time span involved. All these proposals are expected to be discussed and agreed (with or without amendments) by all vested interests over the next few days.
