THE holy grail may have eluded the senior team this year, but the Under 14s from the Rock have captured the All-Ireland title this evening in Wexford.
The Austin Stacks U14 youngsters are the best in the land as they won the Division 1 Féile na nÓg title against Naomh Eanna of Wexford.
In a tough game, the sides could not be separated at full time with the scores 0-8 to 1-5. But Stacks prevailed and went on to win by 2-10 to 1-6 to secure the title.
It makes it two years in a row that Tralee teams have won All-Irelands at the competition after John Mitchels took the Division 5 title last year.
St Pat’s made a valiant attempt to reach the Division 5 final but were beaten in the semi-final on Sunday at the hands of St Gabriels on a scoreline of 0-3 to 4-8.
Austin Stacks won their opening group games yesterday against Ballynastragh of Wexford (2-6 to 1-8), Ballyna of Kildare (5-9 to 2-2) and Dunlavin of Wicklow (3-3 to 0-9) to advance to the quarter finals.
In that tie, played in Carlow, they faced home side Fenagh and won thanks to a last minute goal (1-6 to 1-5).
Today they faced New York in the semi-final and won 1-6 to 1-1 to advance to the decider at the Wexford Centre of Excellence, Ferns.
