BADMINTON
The Killarney Sports Centre will once again be the focus of Kerry Badminton on Sunday next March 20th for the annual qualifying rounds of the Knockout Cup Competitions.
These are mixed team events with each team for the various divisions comprising of three or four ladies and men and the games consist of 2 ladies doubles, 2 mens doubles and 2 mixed doubles and are run on a handicap basis. The competitions commence at 12 noon. Details from Tom Clear at 087 754 9570. All teams are requested to report in time.
The finals proper will be played in Tralee on Wed. April 13th.
Saturday next will see the Kerry Juvenile Committee host their annual tournaments at the Killarney Centre to commence at 11 am. All at juvenile level are reminded that the now annual art competitions will take place at the Killarney venue on the Fri/Sat of April 8/9th.
All are asked to have their entries to the County juvenile badminton secretary, Mrs. Carmel Hudson not later than the Friday night of April 8th. Any paintings, drawings or sketches on a Badminton theme are welcome.
The Munster singles winners competitions will be held also this coming Sunday between venues at Bishopstown, County Cork and Cappoquin, County Waterford.
These competitions for the different Grades will see the singles winners from each of the Munster Counties own championship compete to see who would be crowned the overall champion of Munster within there own Grade. Best wishes are extended to each of the Kerry competitors.
The Kerry Masters competitions which caters for all divisions within the County and is for players who are over 40 years of age will now take place in the Presentation Gym Killarney on Friday March 25th at 8 pm. entries through your local club or to Mike Reardan of the Iveragh Club at 087 949 4746 as soon as possible.
The next phase of the CPC.IE sponsored Kerry County Championships will be the mixed doubles disciplines which will be played at the Killarney Sports Centre on Friday April 1st and commencing at 7.45. With 3 divisions to be catered for it is important that all participants report in not later than the listed time.
The CPC.IE sponsored Ladies League has been played off over the past number of weeks and the culmination on Wednesday last saw a stunning draw being played out between Annascaul and Kingdom, Castleisland when the sides tied for first place on 16 points. On the night each of the ladies concerned certainly gave value for money.
The sides were as follows;

Kingdom : Edel Broderick, Catherine Hanrahan & BrĂd Murphy.
ALL IRELAND SCHOOLS BADMINTON FINALS;
The boys C.B.S “Green” school is well noted for its football process but this famed football nursery claimed a wonderful honour in another sport on Wed. last in Dublin when their team of 4 boys captured All Ireland glory in the under 14 boys Badminton final.
The journey started last January when the Green captured the Kerry title in the County schools championships and this qualified them for the Munster championships.
After some close games the Green captured the Munster Crown in fine style and thus qualified for the All Ireland proper which was played in Dublin on Wed. last, March 9th.at which all 4 Provinces were represented.
Played on the round robin system the Tralee school first met Castlebar the Connacht champions and triumphed by 5 games to 1. Next in line were Coleraine the Ulster kingpins and the Kerry boys came out on top by 4-2.
Finally they met Kilkenny, the Leinster champions and what an encounter this proved to be with no quarter asked or taken and after a torrid battle the sides finished level on 3 games each.However, on the total points accumulated after the 3 games Tralee were declared All Ireland champions by 5 aces and what a day this proved to be for Kerry Badminton.
The winning C.B.S. team were; Sean Kennedy, Kevin Griffin, Seamus Bradley, David Smith.
