Ballyheigue were trounced by a rampant St Brendans side yesterday in Abbeydorney. Mike O’Halloran reports on the Kerry SHC first round clash…

St Brendan’s were four points up after 50 seconds when Nicky O’Sullivan goaled from an error by the Ballyheigue keeper.

Ten minutes later they were ten points behind with Nicky scoring his second goal and St Brendans were well on their way.

Nicky was to bag one more goal before the end of the game. The halftime score was St Brendan’s 3-9 to 0-4 for Ballyheigue, St Brendan’s third goal coming from Kevin Skinner on 21 minutes.

John Egan, who was excellent throughout pointed within 20 seconds of the restart and so the second half went the same way as the first with St Brendan’s totally in command in all sectors of the field and ran out very convincing winners over a Ballyheigue outfit that never did themselves justice.

Ballyheigue will now face Ballyduff in the losers round and will hope to get their challenge back on track. St Brendan’s will play Causeway in the next round.
