The Credit Union SFL Div 6B  Round 5

St Michael’s Foilmore 0-10

Ballymacelligott 0-9

Venue: Foilmore   Date: 11th May 2024

The scenic Foilmore pitch was the venue for the SFL Div 6B, round 6 game between St Michael’s Foilmore and Ballymacelligott on Saturday evenings last.

The Ballymacelligott team travelled without three of their full forward line. The difference in the end was South Kerry’s ability to take their scores despite our players putting in a great performance.

The first half opened with a point for St Michael’s Foilmore. Shortly after Andy Rogers took a 45 and Maurice O’Connell caught the ball turned and scored a great point.

Foilmore added another point followed by two from Skye Lynch (One from a free) Shane Gilroy added a point from play. This was Ballymac’s last score of the half and the South Kerry side added two more before the whistle blew for half time.  Ballymac would rue the six wides in this half.

Half Time score was: St Michael’s Foilmore 0-4 Ballymacelligott 0-4

St Michaels/Foilmore opened the scoring of the second half with a point. Sean Rice followed with a fine point for Ballymac. Then the South Kerry lads looked like they had a goal and Conor Martin stepped up and made a great save. Foilmore added a point.  With twelve minutes gone, Foilmore were in the lead 0-7 to o-5.

Maurice O’Connell brought it back to a one-point game with a point from a free. Conor Martin made another fine save.

Foilmore added a point and Shane Gilroy added one for Ballymac. Foilmore added two more points.  Despite Ballymac’s great rally in the last five minutes producing two points from James Kenny and Maurice O’Connell, it was not enough. The final whistle blew.

Ballymac had lost by the smallest of margins.  The squad played hard and fast football and were so unlucky not to score another three or four points- that on another night would go over the bar.

Conor Martin played a blinder in goal as did his back line. It was good to see James Kenny back on the field after his injury in Dr Crokes.

Full Time: St Michael’s Foilmore 0-10 Ballymacelligott 0-9

Team and scorers: Conor Martin, Ciarán Brosnan, Cian Godley, Jonathan Brick, Sean Rice  Brian Cassidy, Seán Rice (0-1), Shane Gilroy (0-2), Skye Lynch(0-2) Cathal Culloty,  Bryan Godley, Andy Rogers, Jack Tobin, Maurice O’Connell (0-3).

Subs Used: Josh O’Keeffe, Eoghan Leahy, James Kenny (0-1) and Eoin Culloty.

We wish a speedy recovery to Cian Godley who got injured at the game and to Shane McGillicuddy injured in our previous game.

Ballymac U16 girls played Beale in the North Kerry League Wednesday night. Ballymac came out 2-12 to 3-3 on the night in a fantastic team display.

In all truth it is impossible to single out any player as it really was a great team effort with the U14 players, Emma, Aideen, Alice, Eva, Maeve, Tara, Sophie, Natalie and Holly stepping up in the age with great confidence. Many thanks to Beale on a very competitive match.
