Senior ladies Match Report

Bons Secours County Junior A Championship

Semi Final v Cromane

It’s time to put up the flags and colour our parish again, as your Senior Ladies have qualified for the Junior A Final v Abbeydorney in two weeks, after an absolute cracker of a match, that came down to the actual last kick of the game. Take a bow Sarah Scanlon, who kicked over the free to win it after a foul on Roisin Rahilly.

This was a real seesaw battle as the momentum swung to each side on a number of occasions. Ballymac impressive in the first 5 mins raced into a 3-point lead, only to be rocked back on our heels by a Cromane goal and point. We did respond well and scored point versus point to go in at halftime only 1 point down. 1-5 Cromane 0-7 Ballymac.

The second half started with a pointed free from Sarah to level up the scores, then we hit the posts twice in quick succession. Next play brought a great goal from Rachel Creedon as she cut in off the left wing. Cromane then responded over 15 mins with 1-2 to 1 point (and a lovely point from play by Cora it was) from us to take the lead back.

Roisin then responded with a fabulous point from play, at this stage Cromane lost their centre forward to a yellow card for three ticks, when her time was up on fulltime, their midfielder suffered the same fate, again for three ticks, giving Ballymac a player advantage for the last 15 minutes.

Cromane struck again from a free, next up was Lisa Curran (on for Kate Collins) with another point from play. The sides were level, we were deep into injury time, Cromane came at us looking for the winner, we rebuffed them and charged forward, Roisin was fouled, Sarah Scanlon pointed.

senior Ladies manager Stephen O’Brien and captain of our ladies’ team Aisling O’Connell.

💙 MEET OUR MANAGER 💛

Stephen O’Brien hails from Kenmare but has been a vital cog in the Ballymacelligott GAA club for almost 30 years. He has held many varied roles over the years from Club Chairman (2011-2014) to Vice Chair to Manager of our Senior Men’s team (2015). Many of today’s senior men’s panel started their senior career when he was in charge. He served as Coaching Officer (2018-2021) for the club and put the same commitment, enthusiasm and work into the Academy on Sunday mornings as he did to all his other roles.

He now brings these same traits to the Senior Ladies manager role; one he has held for a year. He has worked tirelessly and been involved over the last 3 years with Anthony Curran, Dave Keane and Donal Rahilly in coaching and building this current team. Players respect him for his honest and direct approach! His home-place may be Kenmare but his heart is Ballymac! We wish him, his management team and the ladies’ squad continued success as they head to the Junior A Final v Abbeydorney
