THE Chairman of the Tralee Red Cross has stepped down from his voluntary role after 15 years of stewardship in the society.
Dave Frizelle, a native of Dungannon in Tyrone, arrived in Tralee in 1979 to take up a position as an Agricultural Engineering Lecturer at the then Regional Technical College in Clash, now known as the M.T.U.
Dave was attracted to the various roles that the Tralee Red Cross had to offer and after a Basic First Aid Course, he began his 45 years of service with the voluntary organisation.

In his final address as Chairman to the Annual General Meeting of the Tralee Red Cross in the Grand Hotel last Tuesday night, Dave recalled the many happy memories of his various roles with the humanitarian society.
Describing the Tralee Red Cross as ”nomads” until the purchase of their headquarters in the Killerisk Business Park in 2015, Dave outlined the many groups and individuals who had helped the society over the years.
”As a complete stranger coming into the town over 44 years ago, it was through the Tralee Red Cross that I got to know different aspects of the community in Tralee,” said Dave.
Paying tribute to Dave, the incoming Chairman of the Tralee Red Cross, Joe McDonnell, highlighted Dave’s 45 years of unbroken service, his 15 years as Chairman, despite not just moving home from Camp, but also relocating to his new home in Birr, Co Offaly, and guiding the Red Cross through the COVID pandemic, a particularly demanding time for the voluntary organisation.
”I look forward to Dave continuing to work with the Tralee Red Cross in the future as his diverse set of skills are unique and most valuable,” said Joe.
Other officers elected at the well attended A.G.M. were Vice Chairperson; Cliona Smyth, Secretary; Maureen Milward and Treasurer; Dr. Shane Lehane.
