A FIANNA Fail councillor put forward a motion that the Square be utilised more to showcase the town’s artistic talent through regular events.

Cll Norma Foley was speaking at the monthly meeting of the Tralee Municipal District of Kerry County Council on Monday, where she said the Entente Florale gathering in the Square back in July showed the venue’s huge potential.

“The Town Square gathering was one of the fantastic highlights of the Entente Florale event,” said Cllr Foley.

“The Square has the potential to be a vibrant innovative, creative showcase for the entire town. On that day there was music, food, concerts and the town really embraced it. It was a marvellous example of the huge potential we have in this town,” she said.

Cllr Foley said that it should be utilised more at various times of the year. She suggested a food fair, poetry recitals and other events to showcase the great artistic talent in the town.

She suggested that the Chamber Alliance be consulted as well as the County Tourism Officer to see if anything can be done.

The Council Management reply was that there is currently no budget for this form of activity and any programme would require some financial support either through the Council or Tralee Chamber Alliance or both.
