A FUNDRAISING concert will be held next week to help a Tralee priest bring Christmas to poverty-stricken children in a South American country.

David O’Connor from Gurrane, went to Peru over 10 years ago on a holiday and was so moved by the poverty he saw there that he decided to stay.

He then went on to study for the priesthood in Spain and has now been back in Peru for a year.

David really wants to help the children in his area this Christmas and has been involved with organising food and clothes for the children since his time began 10 years ago.

Every year trucks go out with food and clothes and they cater for over 2,000 children who would otherwise have nothing on Christmas day.

To help David, the Scotia Ensemble will present a concert of Christmas classics in aid of Kerry’s “Christmas for the Children” Outreach Project.

The festive evening of Christmas favourites on Tuesday, December 6, will take place in Ballygarry House Hotel, Tralee.

From “O Holy Night” and “I’ll Be Home For Christmas” to Christmas Movie Music from “Home Alone” and “The Snowman” there will be something for everyone in the audience. They will be joined on the night by singers Mark Leen and Caitriona O’Sullivan who will sing us into the spirit of Christmas with festive favourites.

All proceeds go directly towards clothes, food and presents for the poor children in the area of Puno, Peru. The concert begins at 7.30pm. Limited seating available so book early. Tickets at €20 can be booked by clicking here, or through scotiaensemble@gmail.com
