Council Looks For Funding To Get Steam Train Running Again

KERRY County Council is to reapply for funding this spring to get the steam train at Blennerville up and running again.

Cllrs Norma Foley and Toireasa Ferris both asked for updates on the Council’s commitment to the project at Monday’s meeting of Tralee Municipal District.

A previous application to Fáilte Ireland for funding to restore the steam railway and upgrade Blennerville Windmill was unsuccessful back in 2016.

However, the Council has since met with Minister Brendan Griffin and Failte Ireland and have been invited to submit a revised application when the second phase of funding for large projects will be open in spring this year.

Councillors expressed the wish to see it up and running as soon as possible.
