A TRALEE councillor put forward a motion this weekthat an exhibition of Tralee’s contribution to Kerry GAA and on a national level be held in the Kerry County Museum.
Speaking at the Tralee Municipal District meeting on Monday, Fianna Fáil councillor, Norma Foley, said Tralee is the capital of the county and we are home to hugely impressive successes in the GAA.
She said it would be a shame not to have that highlighted and that there is huge scope within the County Museum for a curation of memorabilia associated with the distinctive contribution of the town to the GAA.

“I think it is remiss of the capital of the county, owing to our huge contribution to the GAA’s success, that we don’t have a suitable exhibition of this type of memorabilia,” she said.
In reply to the motion, the Council said it would not be possible for the staff at the museum to organise such an exhibition over the next six to eight months due to funding and resource issues. However, they said if the local clubs themselves wanted to organise it, an exhibition room would be made available.
Cllr Foley said that the expertise of the Curator of Kerry County Museum would be needed for such a project and said summer 2017 would be an ideal time to host it during the tourist season.
She asked that the Council contact the GAA clubs about contributions to an exhibition and to write to the Curator of the museum asking for her assistance with the project.
